Great for the price. I 'm a hydration pack fanatic because I use them several times a week. This one is quite good. The good: Really well made and durable materials. It is a really versatile hydration pack that can be used for hiking, cycling, etc. It has some internal pockets in the main compartment that really distributes your stuff and the weight well and keeps the pack well balanced. The back pads are nice and plush. The straps are stout. The external stuff pockets on the side/front are very useful. I like how the waist straps tuck away if you are not using them. Trekking pole straps/compression straps are nice. The pack is really streamlined, fits snug against the body, and is very stable for activity. The stuff that can be improved: The hydration bladder and bite valve are not the best, but they do function decent and for the price it is not a big deal. It would be nice to have some sort of velcro on the large external stuff pocket just to secure your stuff a little.

I 'm very happy with this purchase. The only recommendation for improvement I can make is that the cork handles come unsealed. Since these are going to be used heavily in a wide range of weather conditions, from the hot Arizona sun, Monsoon rains, and even snow, I felt it essential to seal the cork to ensure the handles hold up to the use I plan on giving them. I recommend UV- 40 cork seal. I have used it on fly rod handles I have made and it works perfectly, and lasts many, many years. Make sure to follow the application instructions on the bottle. Apply one good coat using a bristle brush. Make sure you do n't have any drips, runs or sags. Do not apply a second coat, as it will not penetrate.

We hike several times a week and go ~10 miles each time. These poles are never not in my hands. They have saved me from serious injury on several occasions. I have neuropathy in my left leg/foot that causes drop foot. I took a fall going down a cliff and the poles caught on a tree and stopped my fall. I have a neurological condition and my balance is not good. This means that I literally use my poles every day, multiple times a day. I constantly push harder than I should probably should and I have never had these buckle, break or complain. my first pair is going on almost 3 years now. The only things showing wear is I have gone through a couple tips and the texture on the grips are almost smooth. They do need to be re- adjusted sometimes- not a big deal... easy. To do. hiking the uphill of the Scenic Trail head to the 9 Bell Trail to reach Archers Fork Trail loop is a big big big one for a beginner hiker like myself. With my backpack weighing 33 lbs total with food and water is a big deal. I was vlogging our adventure and the trekking pole only get a little hit of fame since its not being seen very well on my side of the camera... but my husband has it working everytime. I 'm really happy with these poles. I 've only used them once so far, but borrowed a similar pair from a friend for a difficult hike before purchasing, so I knew what to expect. The cork is very comfortable. A friend on the same hike had Colombia poles, and got a blister on her hand from the plastic that was part of the cork handle. So I like that these Cascade poles are all cork on the handles. I also prefer cork because foam handles from other poles I 've used turn my hands black. The hike was a semi- difficult trail 9. 4 miles out and back 3, 000 ft elevation gain. I was grateful I had them!

I recently went on a camping trip to Big Pine, CA. I hiked up to First and Second Lake which was about an 11. 3 mile hike and roughly 6. 5 hours. The Tempest 9 was perfect! I was able to fit a 3L hydration pack, my snacks, a small first aid kit and other items for the hike. I was a little worried the Tempest 9 was going to be too small, but it did the job. When it came time to selecting a size, I measured at 17 '' '' so I could have gone with either the XS/S or the M/L, I went with the XS/S, however, wished I would have went with the M/L. The hipbelt ended up coming up to my bellybutton. Overall, I am really happy with this backpack!

These come in at 11. 3 ounces for the pair. The handles are comfortable and provide a couple of hand placement options good for gaining and losing elevation. The straps are also fairly comfortable and the amount of basket attachments is nice to have for a variety of weather. I 've put around 150 miles on them backpacking rocky and hilly Western and Central Pennsylvania and the tips have held up well so far. You 'll have to play with the locking mechanism on the pole so they do n't rattle with each stride, not a big issue though. I 'm mostly a hammock camper but occasionally use a trekking pole style tent. These poles held through a windy storm with a very strong pitch on the fly. Ultralight and strong at a great price!

Completed the Everest Base Camp Trek a few weeks ago. Out of 8 people in our group there were 5 of us wearing Osprey packs. I had the Scarab 30 and loved it. We hiked in sun and rain, hot and cold, through wood and over rock fields. This pack was on my back every day every step of the way. The bladder was full with an extra bottle of water on the side at the waist belt and the bag was full with essentials for weather swap outs and everything i needed to get from A to B and survive without my big duffel. It never chafed my shoulders or waist, felt great on my back and did n't sweat me up by allowing air to flow around it. It was exactly the right choice. The design of the bladder makes it very easy to fill and shove back in its home. the only thing i would change or add would be a cover over the drinking port. We were dropping our packs in a lot of places, on trails in Tea houses, coffee houses and different temples, everywhere and the drinking port always ended up on the ground. Would of been nice to have some sort of cover.

The trekking poles are light weight but very sturdy. They can be telescoped to enlarge or lessen the length thereby making them easy to pack. I am 78 years old and have poor balance because of knee and ankle surgery. My worst fear is falling, breaking a leg, catching pneumonia and dying. These poles help to prevent this. And allow me to be active.

These are premier. While this is my first set I am impressed. I am 6'- 4 '' and was concerned with the height being what was needed. As I unpacked them and adjusted them out they did not come near maxing out in order to fit me. Also, the locks are secure I am not sure what it would take for them to slip. Buy thesae poles, you wo n't be excited.
