Columbia is by far my favorite brand of hiking boots/shoes because they always just fit me really well, and this boot is no exception. The Newton Wander is a good looking and comfortable hiking boot. I do n't feel like it needed any break in period, and I wore mine as my daily drivers until the arches were shot. I always left them tied, but could get them on and off quickly by looping the laces on and off of the top couple sets of hooks. Even after they were worn out and the soles were worn down, I kept them around and wore them a couple more times to do some landscaping work and rebuild a retaining wall in my back yard. They can really take a beating!

I got these for shoveling snow, before/after skiing, walking dogs, and other winter use. They 've been very comfortable and provide good grip. Warmth seems good too, but I have n't spent hours outside in them. I wore them as I loaded/unloaded skis and luggage in- 30F temperatures, and my feet stayed warm for those 10- 15 minutes. I have a couple pairs of the classic moc Red Wing shoes( 30yr old Irish Setter 8in, and a 6in Heritage) and with a very high arch I have always preferred the moc construction in shoes. I bought these and added the highest arch orthotics Red Wing makes, and bought a pair of the same orthotics for my 6in moc's. I walk 4- 8 miles a day, a mixture of pavement and trail, always in one pair of Red Wing's during cool and cold weather. I got the Weekender as my everyday shoe, figuring I 'd still use the 2 moc's for walking and hiking. But it's so comfortable it's the shoe that I wear 90% of the time( in cool and cold weather). In fact, it's so comfortable I often leave them on in the house, when normally all my life my shoes come off as soon as I 'm in the door. The only drawbacks so far are that because the sole is softer than the classic moc shoes it's wearing pretty fast. I get ca. 2 yrs out of the sole on my 6in moc, the Weekender may not make a year( ca. 1500 miles). I worry a bit about the leather eyelets lifetime instead of the metal grommets in the classic mocs. But for a shoe this comfortable I 'll be happy to replace the whole shoe every 4 or 5 years.

Needed a new pair of steel or composite toe work boots so went to a Bass Pro Shop on a specific mission for Keen boots. Wore non- ST Keens years ago and always like the look so thought I 'd try the ST version. Unfortunately Keen now runs wide and were exceptionally heavy... disappointing. Tried on about 8 pairs of boots from 4 different manufacturers and a price range from low 100's to 300+. Carhart,( or as we say in the northeast- Cah- haht) Millbrook CT was the clear winner both in price, comfort, and cool ol' school look. Literally bought them last night and wore them all day today and they felt like I 've owned them for years. If these were available in low cut, I would have bought those too. I prefer a boot that hugs the foot( see prior reviews) so this was perfect for me and very comfortable immediately. You 'll notice the single lace hook at the top so 95% full lace support is excellent, unobtrusive, and again, sooo comfortable. Appearance is a 5; Durability is admittedly unknown as this is my first pair, but based on initial observation, these should last for a while; Quality is definitely a 5; Functionality is a 5... for me. Well done Cah- Haht!!

The sizing is fairly true to size with medium to thicker socks but I ’ d dize down 1/2 if wearing thin socks. I ’ m very stoked on these boots!
