It actually feels cooler than the REI Sahara hoodie by 2- 3C, even though they 're both the same weight. I think this shirt has better thermal conductivity. It also absorbs sweat faster which helps increase evaporation. You can check by dunking both shirts into a tub of water. I felt much more comfortable with this in 30- 40C temperatures with high humidity. I can feel the difference under a helmet. It's more stretchy, and greater horizontally compared to vertically so you have to be careful not to stretch it too far in order to keep it's UPF protection so I wear a loose fitting size. The fabric is n't as durable as the REI Sahara, as it has more pilling after a few months of wearing 2- 3 days a week. The wrists seem to be more stained. It has more facial coverage along the neck and side cheeks near the ear because it has a smaller opening for the face. It's a round opening so it sits fairly symmetrical compared to the REI Sahara which has an overlapping stitch at the neck that causes the hood to twist to one side. It does n't have a drawstring but since the opening is smaller, the wind does n't really blow it off, unlike the REI Sahara which needs it's drawstring to be cinched to resist the wind. The only benefit of the REI Sahara is possibly greater sun protection from the side rear angle due to how the hood drapes, but less protection from the side front angle; cheaper price; higher durability.

I wear the echo line of active wear when I 'm working out of fishing. The level of cool I get from wearing the ActiveIce appearal is unlike anything I 've tried before. It keeps me cool and I 'm not sweating as much as I do with the echo fabric. It does come with the trade off of being a bit heavier than the echo and not as breathable feeling since it's a thicker fabric. I will choose to wear the echo fabric when it's a cooler day doing a lot of activity and the ActiveIce fabric when it's really sunny and warm.

It's comfortable and feels far more breathable and quality than alternative sun hoodies on the market( REI Sahara sun hoody) Also, the protection I get with it from the sun is amazing. The hood is more oversized so it's easy to wear over a helmet or to sorta pull to the side to provide extra protection from the sun-- even when you 're just driving and there's bright sun coming from the side window. Also not scratchy on the skin like some cheaper alternatives. I purchased this used a few years ago and it has become a staple for hiking, camping, travel, and festivals. After the first year I cut the drawstring and tied it in a knot, much better and more practical. The light blue color stains easy. Sometimes this shirt stinks to high heaven after short use, other times I can wear it for days without stank. Washes easy and dries quickly. UPF continues to work after many years of regular use and washing, it provides protection from the sun and mild wind. It's so soft against bare skin and comfortable to sleep in. I use as a base layer, except when I use to layer over tank top when it's hot, or wool hoodie when it's cold. The pocket and zipper is great. No complaints.

I like that it ’s a little long because most medium shirts are hardcore belly shirts when I pick my arms up a little.( I ’ m not that type of guy) If you are than this shirt might not be for you. I have a snap button shirt this will go under on my backpacking endeavors this summer. It seems like weight enough to be worn under something without being too hot but I guess we will see. Be warned it's cropped and runs small. It's oh so flattering and super soft!! It's like a soft hug in all the right places. I usually wear a xs in tops and ordered a small. It's still a little snug in some areas. Looks amazing with leggings, shorts, and other pants. I just love the quick dry and sun protection qualities of Free Fly appearl. I want in more colors.
