Rating: ★★★★★( 5/5) I recently purchased the North Face 1996 Retro Jacket, and I could n't be happier with my decision! This jacket has truly exceeded my expectations in terms of warmth and comfort. Even in the coldest weather, I stay incredibly cozy without feeling weighed down. The insulation is top- notch, and the quality of the materials is evident. I love the stylish design, which makes it versatile for both outdoor adventures and casual outings. Plus, the pockets are spacious and practical, perfect for keeping my hands warm or storing essentials. If you ’ re looking for a reliable jacket that combines functionality with style, I highly recommend this jacket. It's worth every penny!

Great coat, layered with a vest it is comfortable in 30 to 40F degree temperature. I 'm 5'3 '' at 140 lbs and I got the large- it's a little loose with tights and tshirt, but perfect for layering with a vest and jeans. I 'm normally a medium and even have a small Columbia ski jacket. I love the weight, the hand warmers, the length and the double zipper for sitting. The medium fit a little too tight when wearing warm clothes. I 've had down coats in the past and they are good for under freezing weather. This was just perfect for my North Carolina weather, and when I hit the snow I 'll layer more.

The description is a bit off. This thing is huge! Quite heavy and very bulky. That said, it ’s by far the warmest jacket I own. I love it. Very warm and cozy. Fantastic belay parka for cold weather. The synthetic insulation is a game changer. No more down feathers pocking through. Very lofty and warm.

The warmest coat I ’ ve ever owned!! I ’ m 71 and we live at 8, 000 feet near Steamboat Springs.

5 Chadbro.
LOVE this jacket! I 'm 6'2 and bought XL for extra movement and layering when snowboarding. Pros: The synthetic fill is the best I 've ever felt, I honestly thought it was down fill. I love that it stays warm and holds its lofty puffiness when in wet snow conditions. My other Sitka down jacket loses its loft quickly in the arms and back when I start perspiring from a morning of hiking or snowboarding. But's it's so soft a cozy. I often just wear a t- shirt or thin base layer under it if I 'm just staring around a camp fire. It's very warm and the hand and chin backings are super soft. Cons: My only complaint is that it does n't have a well placed hood draw string for windy conditions. The single draw string on the hood is more a retention string for side to side movement of your head. And the outer fabric is very delicate, I know its gon na snag and tear on a tree branch one of these days.... I personally wish it was a little bit thicker like on my wife's Expedition down jacket.

5 Provo626
This jacket is exactly what I 've been looking for. It's crazy comfortable, perfectly warm and not bulky or cumbersome. Perfect for commuting and walking around the city. It snowed this week here and it kept me so warm.

5 Timothy
This jacket is very warm. It is the jacket I wear everyday on dog walks and when I go to and from work. It has kept me warm in 40 degree weather down into the 30s and now even into the 20s. It still keeps me warm outside. Now the only thing that is cold are my legs and feet. It also looks very cool. And the medium size is big enough to put a hoodie or sweater on under the jacket. No regrets on buying this jacket.

5 Fernando A
I love my Fjallraven Singi Down Jacket! I purchased this jacket in dark navy two years ago and to this day, it is my go- to jacket for really cold weather. I live in the north east of the U. S. so the temps can drop to sub- 20 degrees( Fahrenheit), but this jacket and it ’s ethically sourced down does an excellent job at keeping the warmth trapped inside. I must say that it ’s roomy enough to layer up underneath and I actually had to size down to a small, when I normally take medium in everything I purchase. For reference, I am 5 ’- 9 ”, 160 lbs, lean, athletic build. So keep in mind that sizing down may be necessary depending on your height and weight.

5 dan123456789
Highly recommend this jacket! I bought it for a winter trip to the Swedish Lapland( Abisko and Kiruna). It got down to 0F or so(- 17C). This jacket is an absolute beast! Couple the jacket with the Fjallraven thin wool top and a light sweater and you 'll be super warm. The tour guides all offered winter clothes to borrow and they had this same jacket! The pockets are plentiful and excellent. Big outside pockets for your hat and gloves and small zippered pockets for your phone/wallet. The fit is also top notch. Zipped up it looks great and I received many compliments from total strangers. I have the navy. I 'll still give it five stars, but the zipper is 0/10. It's on the `` wrong ''( left) side for a men's jacket and assuming you are right- handed, it is extremely difficult to get started. You 'll definitely need to have both gloves off and even then, it is very tough. One other thing to keep in mind: this is an extremely warm jacket. In 35F weather, you 'll be roasting to death in just a t- shirt, even unzipped. This jacket is really designed for days when it's 25F or colder.

5 outsideperson
I think I can best summarize my opinion of this coat in that it makes me want to go outside in blizzards. This thing is sooo warm and well designed for practical use; I spend a huge amount of time standing outside for hours in the winter and this is the perfect tool for the job. Not only is it warm, but its also very durable. The external fabric is tough! I have no concerns about it every ripping which is a huge peace of mind, I think the thick fabric also helps protect from wind which is really nice when its blustery. The pockets are very generous and perfect for stashing gloves or other moderate sizes items if needed. I find myself rarely needing the hood but when I do its oversized and very helpful in protecting against flakes or wind. The only thing that I dont absolutely love about this thing is the zipper for some reason its a bit hard to line up, and there is a bit of a learning curve, its funny, every winter it takes me a couple tries when first using the coat to get the feel for it, but after that I have no issus; on the other hand, the zipper is very durable so its not like I 'm concerned about it failing, more that it just takes a bit of a specific' touch' to get it to line up. Overall I would highly reccomend this, it will last for years( mine has so far, and I expect it will for many more) its also a lot more affordable than other premium parkas, but I think this one is actually warmer and more practical in many ways than its competitors.

5 LK
First- I will say this coat is AWESOME! I wanted to finally invest in a hardy quality winter coat and this one fit the bill. This is the warmest and nicest coat I 've ever owned. I was tired of the trendy lightweight down coats that do n't actually keep you as warm as you 'd like. There is a kind of pleasure that comes from wearing and enjoying a finely crafted article of clothing and this jacket gives just that. It feels exceptionally cozy and of high quality. Second, I will say that this coat is BIG. I really do not understand Fjallraven's sizing recommendations. For reference, I am male, 6' and 160lbs with an athletic( I would like to say) build. I find it a little frustrating to read reviews and feedback about sizing but most people do not put their body size in the review for comparison. If I had followed Fjallraven's sizing guide, I should have ordered a medium. I was torn about which size to order and found it hard to gauge based on reviews, so I ordered a Small and Medium with the intent to return whichever one I did n't want. I will definitely be sticking with the small. The small itself almost feels a tad oversized but I think it will do okay. The medium just feels comically big on me. Even with wearing a shirt and lightweight sweater underneath, I am quite comfortable and still have full range of motion in the small. As far as warmth and comfort, this thing feels so comfortable. I am impressed with the amount of down and insulation in this thing. I live in the midwest USA and our winters get down to 18- 20F on an average cold winter day, usually with several days dipping into the single digits or lower. I walk my dog every morning and enjoy winter hiking and I feel confident and prepared for the coming winter now. So far we have not hit a very very cold day but I did try it out in a morning just above freezing. I wore only a T- shirt underneath while walking my dog and did not overheat in it as others stated- I felt quite comfortable. Part of me wonders if this means I would be a little cold in just the jacket on the really really cold days, but I think it is reasonable to still require a warm base layer or thin sweater underneath to stay warm enough. I feel confident this will be the case. The hood is impressive- big and warm and well insulated and fits snugly enough when pulled over your head and the fuzzy lining feels functional enough to keep out wind, not just a fashion statement. The drawstrings add a nice touch and work well, helping you to show off your lean figure still in a thick coat as you cinch it up around your waist. This helps trap warm air inside and I noticed it also takes a bit of the weight of the coat off your upper body and puts it onto your hips- kind of like the hip straps of a backpack. The zipper is not really as big of a problem as some have complained. It is a bit funny because it is on the opposite side as most zippers for men in the US. Maybe this is a Swedish thing? I 'm sure I will get used to it. Overall, I would say: Stylish, cozy, WARM, quality. It brings me joy and confidence knowing I am well prepared for the coming winter.

5 Miikee
I bought one of these a few years ago in XL. I ’ m 6 ’ 4 and about 200 pounds with very long arms. It fits me perfectly. I have worn it at 0F with just a shirt on under it and I was plenty warm. It ’s made very well and I think the price is very reasonable for the quality. It never leaks any feathers and will last for years. I have the Greenland Winter coat too that I ’ ve had for about seven years and it ’s still in perfect condition. I ’ ve just come onto this website to buy another one of their coats and maybe an insulated pair of pants. Some people say the prices are high, but I strongly disagree. Very well made products that will last for many years.

Ive bought a lot of jackets from the top brands over the years, but nothing matches Fjallraven for build quality and timelessness. After buying this I sold all my Rab, Montane, North Face etc jackets- this is better all round, warmer in the cold( totally wind resistant), more resistant to water, more breathable, tougher, it looks fantastic( always getting asked about it) and will probably last 20 years. It fits perfectly- though go a size down. Pockets are excellent esp the inside pocket, insulated hood works beautifully and still has room for a beanie if its really cold- only thing to note is there is no drawstring waist- presumably because of the down- but it doesnt impact anything. After buying this i bought the insulated Kiruna... hardest decision of the day is which one to put on...

5 Kyle B.
I am a very warm person in general, so I was actually a bit hesitant when reviews claimed the coat to be extremely warm. I took the plunge and am extremely happy so far with the purchase, The down filling almost self adjusts and keeps you at just the right temperature, but not too hot! The fit is great, contouring perfect to the body, Im 5'7 '' and have an athletic figure. Besides the fit and finish the coat just looks good, and feels of very high quality. Looking forward to wearing this in the cold winter months in Michigan. Dont hesitate, Buy this coat!

5 Joe L.
I ordered both this jacket and the re- wool jacket. Both seem like nice, warm options for Wisconsin winters. I 'm 5'11 '' tall, 185 pounds. I 'm torso- tall, a bit of a rounded belly, with average shoulder width. This down jacket was ordered in size large, which is a bit too snug on me. The re- wool was purchased in size XL, which is perfect. Planning to return this down jacket and wait to see if the re- wool gets me through the winter. If I feel like I need a better water- resistant jacket, then I 'll consider buying this down coat in size XL. Again, seems like a great coat, solid quality, a nice hood, good sleeve length.

5 Matthew N.
Like the product description says, it has a very classic aesthetic but it also offers a ton of warmth and great water resistance. For jackets I am typically right in between a Medium and Small, and the Small fits perfectly on this one.

5 Sterling L.
This was my first down jacket from Fjällräven and it was fantastic with a sweater underneath it and kept you warm in 20°F weather's to 10°F weather's in New York City. I 've used it on a hike before when it was snowing outside and the weather was around 10°, it kept me warm throughout the whole hike and never made me sweat at all because of the great insulation and circulation of rounding out where the warmth would be needed for my body. Highly recommend anyone who has thought about getting this jacket to get it without any regrets at all! 5 star jacket and worth every penny!

I really love this coat and all the small features that make it so nice. I love all the pockets, it actually fits a 1L water bottle. I love the little fleece details in the hood, at your face, and in the hand pockets. It ’s very warm, and I can choose to layer( or not) and still be warm. I kept my normal size small due to my broader shoulders and wanting it to be able to wear a sweater without my shoulders feeling restricted. It definitely is boxy, but I don ’ t pick coats based on that, but all the other features like staying warm. I really like how big the hood is, it actually fits both my head and a ski helmet, which is nice. I also love the length of the coat and how it ’s slightly longer than my waist. I appreciate the double zipper, when I get into the car I ’ ll unzip the bottom a touch so it ’s looser which makes any tightness when sitting down go away.

5 Lilital
Love, love, love this jacket. I am that girl who is always freezing, especially if it's windy I do n't stand a chance. Well this jacket has been a lifesaver, got me through- 20F weather with no problem, it blocks the wind and moisture. The pockets at mid level, that are fleece lined, are a blessing. I did a lot of research before buying this coat and I do n't regret it. Now it may not be as form fitting as one might want but honestly when you are warm in dead of winter, who cares. Also it has a million pockets, after 2 winters I still keep finding new ones.

5 Cate
I love mine. Bought December 2019. The zipper was always difficult and today it failed. I 'd like to get it repaired. And seriously considering another. Not sure how to get this repaired as I live in Western New York and I purchased at Mall of America while visiting family. Someone please contact me.

I ’ ve had this coat for a few years now and look forward to pulling it out each winter. It ’s warmer than any other coat I ’ ve owned and feels like a cozy hug. Unfortunately it no longer fits me due to health reasons and I ’ m not able to afford to purchase another one because of other life circumstances but I definitely would if I could!

[ I was heading to Alaska to visit my brother and I needed a better suited jacket for the elements. I ’ d tried this in at a local store but they did not offer and prints. The fit was perfect too. So I did a bit of research and found it with you! Perfect all the way around. I do ski a bit so this was perfect for that. I was t sure I would need this for Alaska but as luck would have it the temperature really dropped and it even snowed. I was quite cozy and looked great too. Two of my favorite things is the soft inner cuffs and the fleece inner collar. When you get it all zipped up it ’s cost on your face! Hopefully I ’ ll ski this season and put the jacket to a real test. The jacket does run small so I bought one size up.

[ Absolutely love this coat. It ’s a tad bit loose fitting, which I love. It makes wearing a sweater underneath more comfortable. The slight crop gives it a nice feminine feeling. It also keeps me very warm.

[ This jacket is at the intersection of fashion and function. I ’ m loving the stylish cropped, boxy cut. The oversized fit allows room for layering underneath on those extra chilly days. I ’ m a fan of the large- sized hood: it ’s perfect for when my lion ’s mane is down or pulled back. I appreciate the snaps on the two pockets at the sides. The pockets easily fit my hands or my everyday essentials( phone, wallet, keys). There is a small Swoosh logo that ’s embroidered over the chest. This branding is minimal, and it allows for me to pair the jacket with various pieces in my wardrobe, whether I ’ m going for a casual or a bit of a dressier look. I ’ m on the petite side and typically wear a medium in Nike tops. I would recommend sizing down in this jacket, due to its oversized fit. I would prefer zippers over snaps for the side pockets, just for that extra security for my small items when I ’ m out and about. I live in New England, so this puffer jacket will certainly keep me warm and cozy this upcoming winter! I know I ’ ll be protected against the winter conditions with this water repellent jacket. It ’s a very puffy and soft jacket, almost like a sleeping bag.

[ I actually love this jacket! It is really cute. It ’s the perfect fit. It doesn ’ t have a lot of stretch but I still love it. It is puffy and feels soft. It ’s perfect for keeping you warm. I also really love the design because it reminds me of a cloud. I ’ m really glad it comes with a hood too.

5 Varo
[ The jacket is lightweight and it's perfect for those days when you need a bit of warmth but do n't want something heavy weighing you down. Plus, it's surprisingly warm for its weight, so it's great for those unpredictable weather days. The jacket has a loose fit and a short torso, which I find perfect for layering. I can easily throw on a sweater or hoodie underneath without feeling restricted. Overall, if you 're looking for a jacket that's cozy, lightweight, and allows for layering, this one is definitely worth checking out. It's become a staple in my wardrobe for sure!

5 Nikemama
[ Nike out did themselves with this one. I am so in love with this jacket. Not only is it lightweight, it is also super cozy. Will keep you warm and cool at the same time. The length of the jacket is my favorite part. Super stylist and will have you right. Perfect fit. Not too big or too small. I love the feel of it and quality is on point. You can layer under. You have a hood of needed and pockets. I would not change nothing about the jacket. It's so great as is. Highly recommend. It will not disappoint.

[ I am so thrilled with this coat. I ordered and tried on many coats and am so glad I held out for this one as it is absolutely perfect. I ordered the navy which is actually more of a cobalt, but I am enjoying the pop of color on dreary cold days. It ’s super warm, perfect for walking to the train during bitter cold Chicago winters. The plush lining inside the neck means I don ’ t even need a scarf if I zip it all the way up. Great pockets, great fit, great fabric. I am 5 ’ 3 ” and 120 lbs and got the medium- it ’s roomy enough for sweaters but still has a beautiful tailored fit. This coat is an excellent value for the price compared to so many overpriced coats on the market. I had my previous beloved winter coat for 10 years and have finally found one worthy of replacing it.

[ I bought this coat a few weeks ago and I am thrilled with it. It ’s warm, wind proof, waterproof, has a double zipper, detachable fur and hood and very comfortable to wear. Very happy with my purchase!

[ This is the warmest coat I ’ ve ever owned, perfect for cold winter walks. At first I was looking at petite sizes, but the only colors available were black or charcoal. I decided to get the color ‘ prophecy ’ and, even though I ’ m short( 5 ’ 2 ”), the regular size 6 fit fine. The sleeves were just a bit long, not too long. I ’ m extremely happy with my new coat!

[ My wife adores this coat, which gets her through the Chicago winters without looking like she ’s training to summit Mount Everest. I thought the down wouldn ’ t be either thick or high wuality enough, but she loves it.

I like this jacket because I don ’ t like jackets! It ’s very warm because of the Omni heat and 650 down fill. It ’s not bulky( Omni heat keeps the bulk down). The quilting keeps the down fill from shifting. I have good range of motion without feeling like I ’ m confined. And it ’s cute!

[ After having this puffy for a month, I 'm pretty happy with it. My job keeps me outside in all kinds of weather, so I have worn this puffy almost everyday so far this winter. I 've found that its best suited for 25- 45 degree weather. Anything above, and I get too hot! Anything below that range, and it is just cold enough that I would put on a thicker base layer underneath or wear a tougher shell over the puffy. Its great at cutting wind chill too. And with the fun heat seal part, I 'm excited to see how long this thing lasts with the activities I put through all my clothes!

5 Wiifitmii
[ Stylish and functional. Not overly puffy for a down jacket. This is more of a fitted style. Zero stitch baffling is a unique idea but have not worn it long enough to see if it maintains warmth due to the flatness of the material in between. Love the soft reflective lining.

5 Ruralgirl
[ This coat exceeded my expectations in so many ways! I wanted a low volume coat that allowed freedom of movement and still provide warmth. When I received the coat, I new the thickness was exactly what I was looking for but I was really surprised how warm it really is! I absolutely love the cut and fit. I 'm really glad I found this coat! Lori W

Frequently Asked Questions For Classic Winter Jacket

When selecting a classic winter jacket, consider features such as insulation type, which can provide warmth without adding excessive bulk. Look for water-resistant or waterproof materials to help keep you dry in snowy or wet conditions. Additionally, check for adjustable elements like hoods and cuffs, which can enhance comfort and fit. Pockets for storage and ventilation options are also beneficial for practicality and temperature regulation.

To choose the right size for a classic winter jacket, start by measuring your chest, waist, and hips to determine your body dimensions. Consult the sizing chart provided by the manufacturer, as sizes can vary between brands. Consider the type of layering you plan to wear underneath the jacket; if you intend to wear thicker clothing, you may want to opt for a slightly larger size. Additionally, pay attention to the jacket's fit style, such as regular or loose, to ensure comfort and mobility.

Classic winter jackets often utilize a variety of materials for insulation to provide warmth and comfort. Common insulation materials include down feathers, which offer excellent warmth-to-weight ratios, and synthetic fibers, which are designed to retain heat even when wet. Additionally, some jackets may feature fleece linings for added warmth and comfort. The outer materials are typically water-resistant or waterproof to help protect against the elements.

Classic winter jackets are designed to provide warmth and comfort in cold weather, making them suitable for many winter conditions. Many of these jackets feature insulation materials and weather-resistant fabrics that help retain body heat while protecting against wind and moisture. However, for extreme cold weather, it is important to consider the specific insulation type, thickness, and additional features like hoods and adjustable cuffs to ensure adequate protection. Always assess the jacket's specifications to determine its suitability for your specific climate needs.

Classic winter jackets come in various styles tailored for different activities. Insulated jackets are designed for warmth during outdoor adventures, while down jackets offer lightweight warmth and packability for hiking or camping. For urban environments, you might find stylish parkas that provide both functionality and a modern look. Additionally, some jackets feature water-resistant materials, making them suitable for wet conditions during winter sports or daily wear.

Classic winter jackets vary in warmth and weight based on their insulation materials and construction. Some jackets use down insulation, which provides excellent warmth while remaining lightweight, making them suitable for colder conditions. Others may feature synthetic insulation, which can be bulkier but offers good warmth and is often more water-resistant. Additionally, the outer fabric and design can influence the overall weight and thermal efficiency of the jacket, catering to different preferences and activities.

A lined classic winter jacket typically offers added warmth and comfort, as the lining can provide insulation and a softer feel against the skin. This type of jacket is often better suited for colder conditions, as the lining helps to trap heat. In contrast, an unlined jacket may be lighter and more breathable, making it a good option for milder winter days or for layering over other clothing. Ultimately, the choice between lined and unlined depends on the specific weather conditions and personal comfort preferences.

Classic winter jackets are versatile enough to be worn for both casual and outdoor activities. They typically feature insulation and weather-resistant materials, making them suitable for colder temperatures and various conditions. Many styles offer a relaxed fit that pairs well with everyday outfits, while also providing the functionality needed for outdoor adventures. This combination allows for comfort and practicality, whether you're running errands or enjoying a winter hike.

When considering the durability of a classic winter jacket, focus on the materials used in its construction. Look for jackets made from high-quality fabrics that can withstand harsh weather conditions and regular wear. Additionally, pay attention to the stitching and overall craftsmanship, as reinforced seams can enhance longevity. Finally, consider features like water resistance and insulation, which can also impact the jacket's ability to endure the elements over time.

To determine the best classic winter jacket for your climate, consider the typical temperatures and weather conditions you experience during winter. Look for jackets that offer insulation suitable for colder climates, such as down or synthetic materials, which provide warmth without excessive bulk. Additionally, consider features like water resistance or windproofing if you live in an area with precipitation or strong winds. Finally, think about the jacket's fit and style to ensure it meets your comfort and aesthetic preferences.
