I want to preface this by stating I purchased this rod in 2022, and the rod I have has different decals than the one listed, so I am unware if the quality of the rod has changed over this time. I bought this rod for inshore saltwater fishing, and it does an amazing job with jig applications. The rod has a good backbone, allowing for firm hooksets. Yet still has a sensitive enough tip to feel more subtle bites. This rod is great for black sea bass! I accidently put this rod to the test when trying to snag some bait with it, and hooking into a small shark. The rod held up well all throughout the fight and did not break. After that experience, I thought for$ 20 this thing has exceeded all my expectations. I paired my rod with a Penn Wrath 4000.

Originally for panfish and trout, it's become my favorite for accurate presentations wading bulrush shorelines for bass on inland and Great Lakes. Fast action to telegraph every bit of the action, with enough spine to steer the big guys away from trouble. Paired with a Pflueger President 20 or 25 reel, the combo is light, comfortable, and tough enough to fish all day. I run 4# Sufix with an 18 '' Vanish Fluoro leader on Carolina or Neko rigs. Precise casting, and even with this light tackle, have n't felt undergunned on big Largemouths or Smallmouths. It's just a blast to take 'em on with this rod.

Bought this 7' one piece medium action/fast rod as an upgrade for panfish and trout. In the last 3 weeks, I 've taken 11 nice 2 plus lb bass along with plenty of large panfish. Very sensitive for finesse presentations, and the fast action means fun battles with plenty of spine when needed to keep the big guys from brush piles. I 've paired with a Pflueger President size 20 reel and Berkley Sufix or Trilene XT 4 lb line with a 6# Flourocarbon leader. Casting is wonderful, controlled, predictable and accurate with the lighter line and rigs near the 1/8 minimum for this rod. Only takeaway is the reel mount, which places your fingers on the base of the spinning reel with no cork or EVA under. Gets a bit uncomfortable after a few hours compared to my Berkley or Fenwick predecessors, and just would be unbearable for cold temperature Spring or late Fall fishing.

I was all set to buy another Fenwick HMG or St. Croix Mojo Bass rod for some finesse worm/soft plastic baits until a salesman who also fishes quite a bit showed me this rod. Honestly I 'm not the most experienced bass fisherman so a lot of the rods felt the same to me, everything from a 249. 00 to this 50. 00 rod. I bought the ML fast action and I could n't notice anything between this and the 149. 00 St. Croix Mojo Bass rod. This rod was on sale for 49. 00 so I figured why not, plus being that price point it allowed me to buy a reel, braided line, floro carbon line for a leader and a bunch of soft plastics. Bought this rod about 2 months ago and have been pretty happy with it since then. Managed to catch quite a few fish on it including a 30 '' pike and some massive hybrid bass. It says it is a fast tip but it certainly is n't as fast as others I have used. Great for treble hook baits as well as texas rig stuff. The only bad part about the rod is that somehow, one of my guide inserts seems to have fallen out and I did n't keep my receipt!

I received my rod with one guide damaged( bent, with the insert ring ready to pop out) due to poor packaging for shipping. The rod was taped to the inside of a floppy, poorly constructed triangular box that looked like a gorilla had stepped on it. A cardboard rod tube would have been a logical shipping container choice. I managed to repair the damaged guide and noticed that the action of the rod is labeled MHF. I feel the action is a little on the lighter side though. More like a Medium Action. It's a beautiful rod and very lightweight and comfortable in the hand. For the price, you ca n't go wrong.

This is a very nice set. I 'm comparing this to my Or is Clearwater and it's holding up well. The rod is similar in characteristics. It feels a little less sensitive but acceptable. The finish is matte and really nice looking. The price shows in small details. The pieces are not marked for fit and the openings are not sealed. Neither point is really an issue. The cork handle seems a bit soft and maybe a tad lower quality than the orvis. I think this could become an issue over time and extended use. The reel seems fine. Not as smooth as my orvis either but overall very close. Very happy with it. The weak point in my opinion is the line. While I 'm no expert, it does n't feel quite as good. It's definitely functional but does n't have an end loop for easy threading of the leader. That also makes it a bit rough to thread through the rod sometimes. Anyway, of course there's a reason for the price but at that price I recommend this set. On our first outing, my son caught 5(!) Really nice trout vs my 2 on the Orvis. Obviously that's more due to the flies he was using and his skills:-) but it shows that this set works well. All the other bells and whistles are not necessary needed. It may come down to durability in the end.

I ordered this originally in February and instead of receiving the item I ordered( 10ft MH) i got a Marathon Fathom rod... after complaining to customer service, they sent me out a new one.... now of course, the rod I received was only 9ft and not the 10ft I ordered. The button to cast needs to be depressed quite deliberately and firm, something my 6 yr old had some trouble with. She loved the color and that it was a larger rod than her previous rod. This product works exactly as described. I would have given this 5 stars but the mounting hardware that comes with the item is not worth 2 cents. I went to install and the wall anchors( no lip) actually went all the way through the wall so I just ended up using some wall anchors with a rounded lip that I already had.
