Whether you’re hitting the trails or getting out on the road, you’re going to want to be prepared for your bike riding experience, and that means getting equipped with the right gear.
Riding your bike can be a great form of exercise, as well as a nice excuse to get out and explore the outdoors. Before you hop on your bike, however, let’s make sure you have the essentials covered.
Whether you’re riding for five minutes or five hours, being uncomfortable can really put a damper on your experience. Some of the key items you may need to ensure a pleasant trip are padded bike shorts, full-finger gloves, knee pads and a helmet.
Padded bike shorts are a highly recommended. Not only do they make for a smoother ride, but they also help keep you comfortable. Padded shorts are designed with a variety of materials and cuts, allowing you to be able to find one that fits your style.
Full-finger gloves can help protect your hands and help absorb shocks and bumps felt during a ride. They also provide some grip between your hands and the handlebars and can also be worn in cooler weather as a nice layer of warmth throughout your ride.
Knee pads could offer some much-wanted protection in case of a fall or spill. The last thing you want is to be sidelined due to something that could have possibly been prevented if proper padding was worn.
Lastly, a helmet is a definite necessity. Make sure that your helmet is snug on your head and fits well. Some helmets will even come with an adjustable dial to help you achieve that perfect fit.
