When I 'm backpacking I 'll heat up my water directly in my jet boil, but I 'm delighted to know I have another option for backcountry boiling if I need it. One thing to be aware of: keep the handles positioned above the lid while boiling, they get hot. And since the lid is removable, I usually pour with my dominant hand and put a finger on the rubber part on the lid to hold it in place. Can be quite steamy while pouring it out, so watch your fingers!

Coffee filters are obviously not required, it works equally well without them. It's a basic pour over, nothing crazy there. What is crazy is the packability and light weight.
