Absolutely love this product. Used it handful of times on some backpacking trips. I love how it connects right to the bladder when I want to use that connection and also connects right to Nalgene. Easy to use and doesn ’ t take very long to fill up whatever you ’ re using to carry your water. Lightweight and easy to pack. Seems fairly durable and haven ’ t run into any problems with that. Highly suggest.

This is a great product and does n't take up much space. Comes in a handy bag to keep it all together. Easy to use. I have only tested it at home and have n't used it on the trail yet. But the water tasted great and I am so excited for its first trip to the woods this summer.

Been a great product. Has held up and is very easy to use/clean. Definitely the best filter I 've owned.

I love the versatility of the filter. With the bobber, you can set it so it sinks below the algea/surface debris. Although it's not the most compact, I like how quickly I can fill my bladder and assist my other group members.

Efficient and durable purification for the backcountry! It works well especially when needing to fill water for several people back at camp. Even with some questionable water sources I have found this to still provide top notch filtration. This is perfect for any level of outdoor enthusiast needing reliable water when not near clean water sources. Light and small enough for a variety of expeditions.

Easy to use but not as quick as smaller squeeze bag type filters. Good if you want to divvy up the weight of your gear between people or plan on staying somewhere and filtering decent amounts of water. Never gotten sick using it and it's simple to operate so it's hard to complain. A good option overall

This filter is built to last. That's why I spent more to buy it. The sturdy build is a great feature and really, one of the only drawbacks-- it's a little heavy. I feel like Katadyn would benefit from a video of how to use and care for the filter. They could even put a QR code on the side for first- time users. I found a good fan- made video that taught me a lot. I found that the pump was easiest to use in the sitting position. Lots of elbow grease needed, but very effective. I see this filter lasting for years to come and I ca n't wait! NOTE- On day two, after taking it apart, it stopped pumping. I took it apart a few times and put it back together, but I was worried I had a lemon. After 3 or 4 times doing that, it started pumping again. Almost certainly user error--- just a heads up.

I have not used the Trail Shot extensively, but it has worked very well when I have used it. I tend to use the MSR Hyperflow more frequently for speed, when weight is not a factor. The Trail shot is a little more labor intensive for my arthritic hands, but it is an excellent option.

Love this filter!! It takes up almost no space in your pack. I really like the option to drink straight from it, and when I fill bottles, it goes quick. The plastic does n't 'rebound' as quick as I 'd like when filling, but it 'll still fill a few liters quickly. Definitely only good for 1 person, maybe 2. Would n't plan to have a whole team using it, but thats not what its for. Prefect for 1 person though. Great addition to my pack!

I 've owned the trail shot water filter for a few years now. Recently the reservoir has been less and less able to pull in water to fill the bulb completely making it very time consuming and tiring to use. Tried and tried to figure out the issue with no luck. Long story short, I was about to throw it away and decided to give this kit a try. Got the kit in the mail, replaced everything available and it was like brand new. Reservoir fills up 100% and great flow.

[ If you have n't figured it out the hard way as many before you, let me clue you in- the MSR Trailshot is an excellent water filter for bikepacking, but when the cartridge dies, it goes quickly and mercilessly. Took the new filter with me on a trek down Kaibab trail in the Grand Canyon. Was able to get clean water from a steady stream down by Phantom Ranch. Nice and cool, clean and crisp is how I would describe it. Love my gravity works, can ’ t wait to use it this summer camping.

I purchased my miniworks back in 1998 or 1999. Used it with no issues while working for a summer camp for a couple of years. Life took over and have been vehicle camping for years where I could take fresh water along. Fast forward to June 2024. Did a short notice 3 day hike and pulled the filter out of storage. Gave it a test the night before leaving and was having issues.... but, I followed the field maintenance tips and BOOM, worked like a dream. Had no issues during the trip and was very happy with the performance! Will keep this filter as long as possible!! Thanks MSR.

Bought several years ago, my not be a full liter a minute but close. I did find that i needed to take it apart and lube the o rings, and the antisyphion valve was folded over from the factory. That resulted in poor proformance out of the box. I used lip balm( beeswax based) to lube the o rings and it works well. If you have multiple bottles to fill, you may have to clean the filter while doing so. That simply means the filter is doing it job. Drain the water from the filter after use, good time for another scrub of the filter. I have used the gravity bags and will use them in camp, but who wants to carry 6l of water on their back. To be honest i have never gotten the rated number of gallon/ liters from a gravity filter, always clog up even with back flushing and very clean river/ stream water. Have a maint kit on hand, and a spare filter for long trips, as well as a back up filtration system. With a little TLC this is a great filter.

The Reluctant Camper
We have used this tent for a couple of years now and still love it. Once we got the hang of it, set up was much easier. We place a tarp underneath to protect the floor, as well as some plastic sheeting on top of the flooring. I think this will increase the life of the flooring. We 've weathered some big storms and have remained leak proof. We are able to fit 3 cots in the main area, and two slim twin sized blow up mattresses in the bed of our van, thus we can sleep 5 fairly comfortably. This was an excellent start- up tent for new campers.

67wagon
Set up& tear down are simple& intuitive and take only about 20 min. if you take your time. The tent itself is very spacious and easy to connect to the vehicle. It fits our vintage station wagon very nicely. Quality of workmanship and materials appears to be a little better than average, but not rugged. After unfolding the tent the second time we did notice some marring on one of the screens, apparently from the plastic pole sockets. Be sure to use the protective bags that go over these hard plastic pieces before folding for storage. Also while folding, I reached for a corner on the screen room& got only the tarp- like edging that borders the bottom seam& it tore away at the edge a little. Again, not really the fault of the manufacturer, just another area where you need to be carful when setting up& tearing down. To sum up, it is a great product, well designed and easy to use, but its not fool proof.

If budget is no object- then this is the filter to buy. I also have the Sawyer Gravity system which costs 4x cheaper. Not just a mere filter, it is a also purifier- and the carbon filter is the icing on the cake and makes the filtered water pleasant tasting. Everything about the package is pure premium. MSR did not skimp on the components and it looks and feel as expensive as it actually is. Operating is easy. Long term storage is a bit tedious- it is a 1 hour procedure- but I do n't mind doing to ensure tip top performance and longevity. I know some complain about the flow rate. I never measured- I mean between the claimed 2 mins to reputedly slower 2m30secs in the field.. it is rather irrelevant to me for my use. Which is base camp use where I wont be moving for days. Part of enjoying the outdoors is the being calm about everything and 10L filtered water that comes about a few mins late, is a non- issue for me. And it is really great to produce so much filtered water for camp use effortlessly AND it is supercomforting to know that it is( if the claims are to be believed) the only filter to meet military grade specifications. That seems overkill for me but then why not! Downsides: long term storage and PRICE. This filter is insanely priced.

Jonas
It's just a great and reliable system. Even my kids can use it. We are a family of 5 who go camping with friends and we need a lot of water often we use 70 liters on a weekend. With the gravity system we never run out of water and the system does not require attention so it's very good for camping with small kids.

Matt
I purchased this filter two years ago for big group and family trips. This year my wife and I took our two kids on an 11- day trip on the Wonderland Trail around Mt. Rainer. The filter performed great, even in dried- up silty/tea- stained lakes. At first, I thought this filter was overkill- many people use squeeze bottle- style filters. Though having to make water for the four of us over 11 days, I was happy I did. Most days, I was filtering around 20 liters of water per day. We filtered into a separate 10l bladder so anyone could quickly fill the cook pot, bottle, or brush teeth. When stowed, the filter, dirty water bag, and extra balder are chunky. However, the weight is negligible once you put this into the group gear pile that gets divvied up between the party. It was consistent with other group gear items in size and weight- rainfly, first- aid kit, stove and fuel, etc. Lastly, the flow rate is brought up on this filter. The filter works great if you hang it high and routinely flush the system. At the end of each season I 've owned this, I `` winterize '' the filter by following the disinfecting directions supplied with the filter. This extra step makes a big difference in the overall performance of the filter.

Worked great as a second room. I use the truck as a bedroom. Sleeve zips off for a third door option if using the tent alone. The only problem was when it rained one time and a pool formed between the cap and the tent on the sleeve. If it was on the right car maybe this would n't happen. The other thing that should be done to make set up easier is to mark the center of each tent pole. This is to mark the apex of the tent to tie the roof ties to. You will see what I mean when you set up. Would I buy this tent again? Yes. And I have never put any kind of waterproofer or seam sealer on and never had a leak.

I used the tent for the first time this past weekend and thought it was great!! My wife even enjoyed camping and I was n't sure that was possible. I heard from reviews that people said that it was hard to set up, but me and my friend set it up for the first time in the dark and only took us 10 minutes, very simple. They even have a video that shows you how to set it up, I would advise watching it first if you are unsure. Others said that it wouldnt fit back in the bag that it comes with, but again, I had no problem with it at all. The only cons were the tent pegs that came with it. They had no point at the end and bent everytime you hammered them in. I went to REI and bought some titanium tent pegs and problem was solved. The only other con was that when using the zippers, they sometimes catch the overflap fabric. Not sure how to fix it yet, but not a big concern. The tent is big and very roomy. I 'm 6' 5 '' and could walk around the tent with no problem. I have a 2004 Toyota 4Runner and the fit was perfect. Great tent, cant wait to use it again!

Love the idea of attaching this tent to my SUV. My wife and I have spent many a nights stacking stuff form the back into the front seats to make room for us in the back. This tent arrived and we headed out to go camping, first stop Holter Lake Montana, fee for camping sights vehicles on pavement tents on grass, you can imagine that we could not drive stakes into the ground when half would have to go through pavement. Headed out of Holter to camp at the Bridge where the access road to Holter meets up with the river at wolf creek canyon. Pitched the tent, pole, stakes everything and lit the barbeque and settle down for the night. Then the wind came and tent blew away. Lesson learned point the vehicle into the wind if known or possible( keep in mind, Eastern Montana is some of the windiest area in the United States. Packed up and headed home in the middle of the night. Two days later headed out to Yogo Creek Montana, found a remote site and set up camp, some wind but it was steady and we pointed vehicle into the wind. Everything else went off without a hitch, beautiful clear creek, camp fire and tent did fine in the 10 to 12 mph wind gust. One small problem, the straps that attach to the tent and come over the top of the vehicle and attach under the hood. When the wind blows is raddles those straps and makes a noise like a semi using air brakes. I will be going to the dollar store and buying some cheap pool noodles, slicing them half way and attaching them over those straps to stop this in the future. Over all glad I bought the tent, roomy and pretty easy to set up and break down.

The size and easy set up( easy enough for one person) make this tent ideal for car camping. ... Much needed as I start my camping adventures this spring. ... Great for car

North Face makes the best gear and this tent is another great add. Perfect size and height for comfy camping, especially in bad weather.

The tent itself is great. The issue that we have is finding the footprint. There are none available. We had to use an old tarp. It works but I would like to have the pieces that are supposed to work together.

I am in LOVE with my new tent!!!! I had a Northface VE24 for the last 35 years and finally bought this tent and I am so happy I did! It is really tall inside and much bigger overall. I love all the venting too. I am a loyal and dedicated fan of Northface tents and highly recommend this one!

I own most water purification systems on the market. The Grayl is my latest purchase and is now my go to. I backpack in the north Ga, NC, TN mountains where water sources are usually close by but not always easy to get to. If I can ’ t reach the source, I tie paracord to the metal eyelet, lower the Grayl, fill it, pull it up and press the water through filter and I ’ m back on the trail in minutes. When I stop for the day, I use my Grayl stove to boil water in the Ultrapress to add to my dehydrated meal then use the same system to boil water for my morning coffee. I bought a second for my wife. We don ’ t hit the trail without our Grayls. Age: 60s. Use: Day hikes, overnight backpacking, week long backpacking trips.

I bought my Grayl not just for out on the trail but because our city water is disgusting plus I travel a lot and run into water that is Not clean. So Daily life, job sites, camp sites off in the woods... I bought a sling bag to carry and it so nice to have it on me and not have to carry anything in my hands. I purchased an extra pouch I turned it into a `` booboo '' pouch. Great product, i will buy more from them soon. I have a have a large family.

I bought this 2- 3 years ago for use on scout backpacking trips and emergency use during hurricane season. The thought was to have zero worries with water supply no matter where I was. The troop had another MSR filter with lower filtration pumping 1L per minute. Scouts became impatient and those were quickly abandoned to use mine. Win# 1! We recently took a long distance backpacking trip and most groups used micropur tablets for sterilization, but not wanting to wait used this filter instead for immediate water consumption without an altered taste. Water supplies were typically streams or in some cases cisterns from rain collection or pumps which still needed sterilization. Win# 2! One camp ran out of water in their cistern with zero streams for decent water nearby. I said not a problem and we filtered out of a cattle pond full of all kinds of bugs, algae and things no one wanted to deal with. This pump had zero issues and no one got sick. Win# 3! Lessons learned: most of the time, filtration just occurred over one or two days, this last trip was longer. If the nalgene was too tight, it would cause leaks between the filter and the water bottle. The same occurred if the gray ring at the bottom was too tight to the red cylinder on the filter. Loosening those connections brought everything into alignment with no leaks. A gentle tightening was all that was needed. After each trip, I do pump some clean water through the filter thinking one or 2 extra liters wo n't impact the life of the filter. I hang the filter to dry out the entire length of hose, and invert the filter section with fibers so it drains as well. I 've had zero issues with the performance of this filter and have full confidence whenever it is used. I still carry the maintenance kit with me, but it has yet to be used.

WE have been using the Guardian Purifier for several years now and just purchased out third one. We use it in a wilderness camp for up to 9 people for two weeks duration. We have never had a problem with the device or supplying ample water for each group. Several of our guests have purchased on for their own use after using the Guardian in our camp.
5
Used this filter on a backpacking trip recently with 5 other people. I used a less expensive MSR filter previously that worked great but had to be cleaned frequently or it would screech to a halt. The Guardian had no problem filtering multiple Nalgenes all day for 6 people. Do n't over- tighten your bottles on to the filter! This is the main issue I see people having, and I understand the temptation. I had the leaky piston and base issue but once I backed off the tightness everything was great.

Love the peace of mind! Easy to use& fills bottles quickly. We wanted one filter that we could use on any trip no matter where in the world, and no back- flushing makes this a dream.

Just used the MSR MiniWorks EX on the trail for 3 days having purchased it last week at a local outdoors store. I pumped 4 litres the first day with no issue, pumped 11 more litres the 2nd day, cleaned the filter not because it had slowed in performance, simply because I figured I should, pumped an additional 2 litres the following day with no issues. I truly ca n't understand where people are having problems, especially when they are claiming to be pumping from clear water sources... only thing I could imagine the problems I 'm reading in these reviews is glacial streams with high volumes of rock flour... but again the complaints claim clear water...

In my opinion this is the best Coleman Stove. The clicking igniter is more durable than the push button type and it does n't move the whole stove when trying to lite- up. The wind deflectors are simple and perform as advertised, the grate is durable and provides adequate support. I expect to have 50 year life with this stove in which it will outlast me. Great lightweight backpacking tent. I was able to take this on a multi day 10+ miler and did n't have any issue with the weight that it added to my pack. Like most tents, 3 person more than likely means 2 person. My buddy and I both have the Ampex lightweight sleeping pad( long/wide size) and we were able to fit just two of those pads in the tent and were still comfortable. I have yet to experience any crazy rain or anything in the tent, but with the rain cover on there seems to be a solid amount of coverage. My favorite part of the tent is the base of the tent seam is actually quite high up the tent, this is great for any water that may try to get it, youd literally have to have flooding happen before anything really comes through the tent.

[ It ’s easy to use, very spacious and comfortable, the bottom lining is great and a thick sturdy mat to add your sleeping bags on. The openness or the closeness is a great option. I ’ d say it ’s a two person tent though not a three person. Two person because it leaves room for your belongings. It ’s fall right now and it does keep the wings out indefinitely. Overall great tent.

I ’ ve only set up the tent in the backyard a couple times. Camping trip is scheduled in a few weeks. I love the vestibules and the large pockets at the head. I used this for a week long camping trip with 3 people. We were able to fill the bag each day and hang it from a tree at the campsite. The water tasted amazing, with no plastic taste from the bag. It filtered extremely fast with good flow, allowing me to fill a 2 liter bag in around a minute. Care and cleaning are extremely easy. The bag is durable and does not seem easy to rip.
