The new Frontier Ultralight Cook set is a brilliant redesign in the Sea to Summit line up. As an alpine climber, I obsess over both weight and space savings and this new cook set checks both boxes. I paired the cook set with a jet boil Mighty Moe and compared it to my `` go to '' MSR reactor kit with Sea to Summit cup and bowl. The Frontier Ultralight cook set weights in at 20 grams heavier than the MSR however, it provides 2 cups, 2 bowls, and a 2. 2 liters pot. It also seems to pack better in a rucksack which is critical when trying to jam everything into a smaller rucksack. The space and weight savings when considering two people, is definitely making this new cook set my `` go to '' for summer adventures!

I am often guilty of associating price with quality. So when looking for a pie iron for motorcycle camping I bought a Rome pie iron for more than 2x price of the Coghlan ’s version, but found the 28 ” handles don ’ t detach so they wont fit in my panniers. I bought the Coghlan ’s whose handles unscrew and therefore fit in my panniers and they also make pies just as well as the Rome version. I ’ ve made fruit pies, chicken pot pies, pizza pockets, stew pies... very satisfied.

This will work well for you, if you realize how to use Cast Iron. It will heat slowly with the first pie and then probably burn if you do n't pay close attention. After that they will come out of the fire perfectly toasted and fairly fast. We had one as kids for camping with our family. It lasted over 40 years and one of my siblings has it now. I bought one for our family, so we could enjoy the same memories! Not very expensive either!

Upon receiving the 6 piece Sea to Summit Frontier Cook Set – everything about it suggests top quality. The packaging is robust and signifies that high quality gear is within. I took set on a 3 day/2 night kayak camping trip I was leading for a group of 11 people. I shared the kit with the group to get their impressions as well. At less than 2 lbs( 1lb 13oz) this set offers a very high value for the weight being carried. Admittedly, this was a kayak camping trip, so weight is not that big of a factor, volume is more important. The set fit easily within my kayak. The new Click- Safe handle design is brilliant although some people seemed to struggle with it at first. It is actually really simple to use and really makes the pot feel like a one- piece pot – super sturdy. The 2L and 3L sizes give you plenty of flexibility to prepare just about anything in the wilderness. While the strainer lids are becoming standard on outdoor cookware, they are integral to the frontier lids and worked really well for draining pasta. The addition of the Sea to Summit Frontier Ultralight Pan would make this a comprehensive cook set. The pots cooked food nicely and seemed to have good heat distribution. I used the 3L to mix a cake mix that I was baking in a dutch oven and used a metal wisk to mix it. There were no marks at all on the inside of the pot – suggesting a very robust no- stick coating that will not scratch easily. The inclusion of two nice bowls and covered cups is really nice. We used both the bowls and the cups on this trip. Although very light, they are sturdy and were easy to hold with hot food in them. The spill proof lids on the cups are a nice feature and the cups did well for both morning coffee and evening wine. One comment/observation a number of people had( including the author) was that it would be nice if the set came in a bag( mesh or otherwise) to protect the outside of the 3L pot. The other comment I received from a few people is it was a little hard to see the graduation numbers inside the pot( maybe make them bigger for the next generation?). All in all, this is a fantastic set that will delight the outdoor chef. It is well thought out and the new Click- Safe handle design is a winner – really makes it feel like a solid one piece pot. A thought on a bag – maybe Sea to Summit could list the recommended Ultra- Sil or Big River dry bag size as part of the product description? Thanks again Sea to Summit for manufacturing well thought out, high quality gear!

[ My family has recently decided to get more into tent camping, and keeping things light is important. Since many of the meals would be made from freeze dried packages, there was little need to carry a heavy two- burner propane stove and fuel tanks. The JetBoil Stash model looked like just the thing to boil up a few cups of water to make a pouch of food. Not wanting to wait until we actually needed it, I gave it a few test runs under different conditions right at home. It is quick and easy to set up, and I ran into only one easy- to- remedy snag- getting the stabilizer leg assembly to snap onto my fuel canister. Where I live, there's not much selection in fuel, and mail ordering it comes at a high price. That meant getting Coleman brand was my only option within an hour's drive. The problem is that the stabilizer is just too hard to get onto the canister bottom without feeling like you 're going to break it. I have n't owned one of these before, so I do n't know how much variability there is between fuel brands. The good news is that a minute's application of a file fixed it!( See pictures). Once I got it all assembled, I was able to get 2 cups/500 ml of water boiling in about 2- 1/2 minutes or so on average. On really cold days or ones where it was very breezy, it was a little longer, but still really fast. One could easily boil water for and prepare several pouches of food within 10- 15 minutes, even if everyone had something different. I am very happy with my new stove!

[ I just LOVE this new Stash camping stove. It ’s the lightest and most compact in the market that I ’ ve been able to find and JETBOIL is a leader in this segment. It ’s easy to pack because it ’s so compact and light. I was able to boil two cups of water in about 2. 5 minutes. The pot sits on top of the stove very steady. They also sell a frying pan which is the next item I want to get. The flame comes out strong and the way the bottom of the pot is designed to keep in the flame/heat for maximum power. I was a little worried there was no wind guard for the flame, but it seemed to do well with a light wind( haven ’ t tested with a very strong wind but I would probably find some cover if needed. The stove component is made of titanium and is very light yet strong. Great design and quality.

Took this for its first spin up Wheeler Peak! Cooked breakfast at the trailhead and the Jetboil quickly had the water roiling and ready to pour! Made it up to Williams lake split and used this to make a quick cup of coffee before heading to summit. Again the water was ready to go in a minute or two. On my way down I made lunch. The Jetboil Flash performed perfectly all 3 times I used it in the 37 degree, 12k foot mountain environment. The Flash got tossed in my pack and I couldn ’ t even tell that it was there. It's simple to use, works well in windy situations and does n't require a cook system which is great for customisation. But the absolute best thing is the stoves ability to regulate heat. I can dial this down to a candle flame for amazing summer control. The one issue is the igniter. Mine stopped working after the second time out. But Jet boil owned the problem and are sending me a replacement. Amazing customer service! I would recommend this stove to anyone.

[ The Zip 0. 8L is my new go to stove for most adventures! It is easy to use even without the directions since the labeling on the jetboil illustrates the proper usage. This is the first of the jetboil systems I have owned and I am very pleased with its functionality. I have been able to use it quite a bit this winter and it boiled water quickly even in negative Fahrenheit conditions and higher elevations( tested around 10000 ft). Changing the amount of heat is smooth with the dial and it is seamless to ignite. My favorite part is the lid that makes it effortless to pour hot water out and the additional holes if you need to control the water you drain out. The system is also very easy to clean and pack. [ I have used the older versions of the jetboil, and they have streamlined a few things. For instance the regulator knob is indicated with a+ and- diagram. This may seem trivial but I frequently try and turn up the flame and turn off the gas. Not that big of a deal but I instantly noticed this and now always know which way to adjust the volume. I have not used the one that I ordered as of yet. I bought this because a buddy of mine has it and have used it a few times and it is great. Much lighter than my old setup and is much faster, meaning less fuel. It is also great to have incase the weather gets bad and have no electricity you can still use this stove to cook and heat with. The stove's large top let us use a large pot and the three burners allowed us to also have a coffee pot on at the same time, the burners radiate heat evenly across the stove top. It boiled water faster than we are used to. The round burners tend to burn hot which is good for boiling water, just closely watch anything else you are cooking as it can burn, I learned the hard way but I am in love with this stove! I find myself using this stove not only when camping or tailgating, but I also often use it to cook foods outdoors that may result in a lot of food odors in my house had I cooked them indoors such as fish. First of all, Coleman's propane cylinders are so affordable- a bargain actually- and they are conveniently stocked at the big box store down the road from me. The stove itself is rugged, and for a portable stove, its cooking performance is downright impressive. It heats evenly and powerfully. Starting it is a breeze with the instastart feature( which has worked flawlessly every time), and with the wind block panels, a windy day( which is often where I live) gives me no problem at all. Lastly it is highly portable. Once it cools down, I flip the wind block panels down and close the lid and fit it neatly in storage. When closed, it is roughly the size of a standard briefcase, so do n't worry about needing extra room to store it.

I 've used the collapsible 1. 4L pot from Sea to Summit for a couple of years now and really enjoy how compact it is, so I was a little hesitant on the non- collapsibility of these pots. I was concerned about filling these pots up with items that might scratch the non- stick finish. They include a nice cloth that allows the smaller pot to nest into the larger pot and protect them from each other. I used that cloth and a bag to put my stove, fuel, all of my dishes, and utensils, plus my LED light strip into the 3L pot. It's all kept in nicely by the handle clicked over the lid. The 3L size was not as much of an issue as I thought it would be, just stuff more stuff into it! I have a large set of pots/ pans and the 3L size Frontier is easily the best volume/ weight ratio of any of them. Even including the handle in the weight. The non- stick is AWESOME and the bottom heats very evenly. I enjoyed cooking in this much more than my 1. 4L collapsible pot. The lid `` hook '' for placing the lid on the side of the pot is a nice feature... always hard to find a clean place for your lid! I also had no problem keeping the lid in place for draining pasta, nice solid lid fit on the pot. My only `` issue '' is the bottom of the pots has an `` indent ''. This is great for strength, but the diameter of the indent is slightly smaller than my optimus crux stove... so the pot is a little unstable/ off- kilter on the stove. Still 5 stars overall. This is a great pot set.

The handle is nice that it can be removed and it ’s easy to snap back on when needed. The nesting storage is always good as well. Only thing that could be lighter is possibly titanium but it ’s extremely light for the set and I don ’ t think that would be worth changing. One thing that could be nice is the handle interface being on the lid as well to snap into just to not be fighting steam with your hands but not a deal breaker. [ I wasn ’ t expecting this to be so light! Even with all the pieces in the pot it is still really light. This doesn ’ t take long to heat up and it cooks pretty evenly from what I can tell. I only tried soup in it so far. It wasn ’ t hard for me to clean it afterwards because it was just soup. I do think other things will be tougher. The handle is a little hard to take off in my opinion. I ’ d worry about older people or people with fragile or weak hands being able to do it. Overall I ’ d recommend this.

I bought this stove last summer for a car camping trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. I was frustrated with the lighter but then realized what altitude I was actually at and piezo lighters do n't work so remember this when you go to altitude with it. Below 7400ish youre good. The power these burners have is amazing, great for fast cooks or for a big group. It works great with cast iron and I liked the flexibility. It boils water incredibly fast with the 20k btu burners, faster than my gas range at home. It is a little bulkier than other stoves but perfect for camping or a quick picknic, I 've even used it at the sledding hills for making cocoa. I opted to get an adapter and a 5lb tank and after multiple uses I 'm still well over 3/4 of a tank.

I have not used my Everest 2X camping yet but did test it out as soon as I received it. I filled a two qt. sauce pan with 1 1/2 quarts of cold tap water( at sea level) and fired it up. On full high the water boiled in 3 minutes 50 seconds, much faster than kitchen range. Amazing high heat and it sounds like a jet engine. It also simmers at very low heat( wind was moderate) without any trouble. My only issue, which seems to have self- resolved, was one of the burner's igniter did not spark. After turning the igniter knob 5- 10 times in succession it began to spark intermittently and then it worked consistently. I 've only used the stove once for this test before taking it into the field so I 'll have to see if it continues to ignite properly. I purchased the 2' extension hose and 1lb. canister stand for convenience and canister placement options. Bothe that hose and the included hard pipe connector worked perfectly and I did not experience any leakage( as some reported with the hard pipe) on either connector. Ca n't wait to cook some meals while camping. The Everest 2X seems to be a very well made unit and is capable of crazy high temps and cooking speed if necessary. Highly recommended.

Bought this 2 years ago. I have been acquainted with Coleman stoves most of my life, but thoroughly blown out by this stove. Does Coleman make a great stove? You bet ’ cha. But this stove means I can cook anything I can get the ingredients near the stove. Best country flapjacks ever. Fabulous beef bean and cheese Dutch oven dish. I can use my old Lodge cast iron, or my newish gsi dualist, even that can make great pancakes if I can stop making them an inch and a half thick!

This is a great skillet set for home or camp use. You can use the pans individually or combine them for dutch oven cooking. Also can be used on the stove top, or in the oven. I have made fried chicken, deep dish pizzas, cornbread, apple pie, frittatas, stir fry and breads in this set so far. I have used these almost daily, and have since purchased a few other sized lodge skillets. You have to cook with a lower heat than your traditional non- stick pan and have to use a bit more oil, but the more you use it the more it becomes seasoned and acts more like a non- stick pan. Patience is key with these. The handles do get hot, so pick up a set of handle mitts that lodge makes.

I 've had this one for over 6 months now I use it quite often averaging 3 times a week or more. I still have the older version in my old Jetboil that I keep in other Jeep.
