The new Frontier Ultralight Cook set is a brilliant redesign in the Sea to Summit line up. As an alpine climber, I obsess over both weight and space savings and this new cook set checks both boxes. I paired the cook set with a jet boil Mighty Moe and compared it to my `` go to '' MSR reactor kit with Sea to Summit cup and bowl. The Frontier Ultralight cook set weights in at 20 grams heavier than the MSR however, it provides 2 cups, 2 bowls, and a 2. 2 liters pot. It also seems to pack better in a rucksack which is critical when trying to jam everything into a smaller rucksack. The space and weight savings when considering two people, is definitely making this new cook set my `` go to '' for summer adventures!

[ My family has recently decided to get more into tent camping, and keeping things light is important. Since many of the meals would be made from freeze dried packages, there was little need to carry a heavy two- burner propane stove and fuel tanks. The JetBoil Stash model looked like just the thing to boil up a few cups of water to make a pouch of food. Not wanting to wait until we actually needed it, I gave it a few test runs under different conditions right at home. It is quick and easy to set up, and I ran into only one easy- to- remedy snag- getting the stabilizer leg assembly to snap onto my fuel canister. Where I live, there's not much selection in fuel, and mail ordering it comes at a high price. That meant getting Coleman brand was my only option within an hour's drive. The problem is that the stabilizer is just too hard to get onto the canister bottom without feeling like you 're going to break it. I have n't owned one of these before, so I do n't know how much variability there is between fuel brands. The good news is that a minute's application of a file fixed it!( See pictures). Once I got it all assembled, I was able to get 2 cups/500 ml of water boiling in about 2- 1/2 minutes or so on average. On really cold days or ones where it was very breezy, it was a little longer, but still really fast. One could easily boil water for and prepare several pouches of food within 10- 15 minutes, even if everyone had something different. I am very happy with my new stove!

[ I just LOVE this new Stash camping stove. It ’s the lightest and most compact in the market that I ’ ve been able to find and JETBOIL is a leader in this segment. It ’s easy to pack because it ’s so compact and light. I was able to boil two cups of water in about 2. 5 minutes. The pot sits on top of the stove very steady. They also sell a frying pan which is the next item I want to get. The flame comes out strong and the way the bottom of the pot is designed to keep in the flame/heat for maximum power. I was a little worried there was no wind guard for the flame, but it seemed to do well with a light wind( haven ’ t tested with a very strong wind but I would probably find some cover if needed. The stove component is made of titanium and is very light yet strong. Great design and quality.

Upon receiving the 6 piece Sea to Summit Frontier Cook Set – everything about it suggests top quality. The packaging is robust and signifies that high quality gear is within. I took set on a 3 day/2 night kayak camping trip I was leading for a group of 11 people. I shared the kit with the group to get their impressions as well. At less than 2 lbs( 1lb 13oz) this set offers a very high value for the weight being carried. Admittedly, this was a kayak camping trip, so weight is not that big of a factor, volume is more important. The set fit easily within my kayak. The new Click- Safe handle design is brilliant although some people seemed to struggle with it at first. It is actually really simple to use and really makes the pot feel like a one- piece pot – super sturdy. The 2L and 3L sizes give you plenty of flexibility to prepare just about anything in the wilderness. While the strainer lids are becoming standard on outdoor cookware, they are integral to the frontier lids and worked really well for draining pasta. The addition of the Sea to Summit Frontier Ultralight Pan would make this a comprehensive cook set. The pots cooked food nicely and seemed to have good heat distribution. I used the 3L to mix a cake mix that I was baking in a dutch oven and used a metal wisk to mix it. There were no marks at all on the inside of the pot – suggesting a very robust no- stick coating that will not scratch easily. The inclusion of two nice bowls and covered cups is really nice. We used both the bowls and the cups on this trip. Although very light, they are sturdy and were easy to hold with hot food in them. The spill proof lids on the cups are a nice feature and the cups did well for both morning coffee and evening wine. One comment/observation a number of people had( including the author) was that it would be nice if the set came in a bag( mesh or otherwise) to protect the outside of the 3L pot. The other comment I received from a few people is it was a little hard to see the graduation numbers inside the pot( maybe make them bigger for the next generation?). All in all, this is a fantastic set that will delight the outdoor chef. It is well thought out and the new Click- Safe handle design is a winner – really makes it feel like a solid one piece pot. A thought on a bag – maybe Sea to Summit could list the recommended Ultra- Sil or Big River dry bag size as part of the product description? Thanks again Sea to Summit for manufacturing well thought out, high quality gear!

Took this for its first spin up Wheeler Peak! Cooked breakfast at the trailhead and the Jetboil quickly had the water roiling and ready to pour! Made it up to Williams lake split and used this to make a quick cup of coffee before heading to summit. Again the water was ready to go in a minute or two. On my way down I made lunch. The Jetboil Flash performed perfectly all 3 times I used it in the 37 degree, 12k foot mountain environment. The Flash got tossed in my pack and I couldn ’ t even tell that it was there. For ease of use, weight, and boil time I ’ d highly recommend this!

[ The Zip 0. 8L is my new go to stove for most adventures! It is easy to use even without the directions since the labeling on the jetboil illustrates the proper usage. This is the first of the jetboil systems I have owned and I am very pleased with its functionality. I have been able to use it quite a bit this winter and it boiled water quickly even in negative Fahrenheit conditions and higher elevations( tested around 10000 ft). Changing the amount of heat is smooth with the dial and it is seamless to ignite. My favorite part is the lid that makes it effortless to pour hot water out and the additional holes if you need to control the water you drain out. The system is also very easy to clean and pack. I plan to use it not only for ski/snowshoe days but also on my next camping trip to Norway since it's so small and easy to pack. Jetboil gave me this free product to try.

[ I have used the older versions of the jetboil, and they have streamlined a few things. For instance the regulator knob is indicated with a+ and- diagram. This may seem trivial but I frequently try and turn up the flame and turn off the gas. Not that big of a deal but I instantly noticed this and now always know which way to adjust the volume. Great product!!

I have not used the one that I ordered as of yet. I bought this because a buddy of mine has it and have used it a few times and it is great. Much lighter than my old setup and is much faster, meaning less fuel. I do n't mind that it does n't have an igniter, I tend to just throw a mini Bic in the cup and leave it there, not to mention I always have another lighter with me for emergencies.

Normally freeze dried scrambled eggs have the consistency of wet sponges however with the mix of other ingredients the spongy eggs were hardly noticeable( helpful hint: crush the eggs while they are still dry). Add to that the excellent flavor and you have a delicious and filling meal. The added smoke flavoring was perfectly balanced and not over done. the meat was tender and added a nice texture. Follow the directions and wrap in a jacket while you wait patiently and you will be rewarded with a great breakfast. Mountain house really came through on this one. Just as an aside, my brother and I have done a lot of tailgating at pro football games and we like to get there EARLY so we will boil up some water and have a nice breakfast while waiting for the parking gates to open, makes for a comfortable wait until we can burn some brats on the grill.

I have purchased and used Mountain House food for many situations including hiking, camping and emergencies such as power outages caused by weather. This is my go to food because it has good storage life, lightweight and convenient to prepare. I find the taste and texture to be as good as it gets when fresh foods are not as reliable or available. I ’ ve taken on long and high adventure camping such a being flown into a lake in Alaska and left for a week or more and the weight of a weeks amount of food limits other alternatives. Also easy to have available for quick trips where the food source may be uncertain. I keep some on hand for potential emergencies such as being with out electricity after a devastating storm. It gives me good peace of mind and one less thing to worry about for day trips hiking or hunkered down for bad weather. 5 years ago I purchased a variety of preserved foods with the intent of storing them for 5 years, then trialing to see which options preserved best for our hurricane kits. At this point I was new to living in the south's hot humid environment. We purchased a box of mountain house# 10 cans that included this beef stroganoff, lasagna, chili Mac... and I do n't remember what else. We also purchased emergency essentials 4 person 72 hour kit and emergency essentials# 10 cans. Aside from a brief move across town and 5 days without power post hurricane Irma all items mentioned were kept in an AC controlled environment. After 5 years of storage we opened to evaluate. All items were edible, but the mountain house cans were the only items that had preserved good taste. They really were quite good! Each flavor! Really enjoy cooking on this portable stove, I am tempted to now buy the Luna Satellite boiler for Jetboil Cup so I can make a single pan breakfast and coffee all off of one propane tank connection. Easy to collapse into one portable package with the pan attached and then the propane tubing sits nicely inside the Zipper Pouch that is included. So after forgetting the car camping stove again we decided to get a stove that would fit in the downsized camping cooking box that one can actually carry by themselves. The half gen was a perfect fit and we could fit our plates in the bag that comes with it. The only thing I wish it had was a lid for the pan which I would pay for. The wind screen was a little awkward getting on at first but it works at least in 20- 30 MPH gusts. Construction is solid, the lighter works and due to the shape there is no cooking splatters to deal with on the stove itself. The gas control is good too. Yes it was not cheap but a great size and it works well.

The chicken fajita bowl is absolutely delicious. It tastes just like it should. No weird textures or anything. It ’s 2 servings but my husband and I put it on tortillas and it made 3 “ tacos ” total. We both had 1 and 1/2 and were full. So it can make 3 meals if you really need it to however that cuts your calorie intake for each one. I tried this one out while ate work last week. It was good, however I 'm not as much into spicy food. I do like regular chicken buffalo wings, but ONLY buffalo wings, not the tenders. So, I think that was the only drawback on my end, and that's a personal preference, not a knock against the product. The product was exactly what it claimed to be. My manager quizzed me on what I was eating, and even HE had to admit that it was a good product to be free from a lot of chemicals and last as long as it does!

Very good taste! Pretty excited when I saw this new flavor and immediately ordered some. The taste is excellent, if you like hot sauce on anything you ’ ll like this. The first time we fixed it we use the exact amount of water called for on the package. In my opinion it was a little too much, the second time we didn ’ t use quite as much water and the sauce thickened up quite well. Every time we ’ ve eaten this the macaroni noodles reconstitute perfectly. I was very excited to add this flavor to our supply. I would definitely recommend it if you like buffalo chicken wings it ’s just a great taste.

I love this tasty treat. The only issue I had was the chunks of chicken were so large that the center of the chicken chunks remained a little hard from lack of water penetration. I suspect this is only a matter of finding the perfect cooking procedure. Flavor is very good!

Since I was a kid and in the military, I always looked for ways to make Mac and Cheese taste better. I recently purchased the new Buffalo Style Chicken Mac and Cheese to see if they had found the answer to my situation. Mountain House has done it again. I am happy to report that they have. I was already a fan of buffalo hot wings to now adding that flavor to Mac and Cheese is pure genius. The new mac and cheese tasted fantastic. The meal has the right amount of hot sauce mixed with the cheese. In fact, I ordered some more for my friends to try.

Probably my favorite pro pak. Tried this the first time in the US Military article ration. I ’ m a long haul truck driver and I keep a bunch of pro paks in my truck in case I stop someplace without food/restaurants. Still well and just need hot water.

I have bought from several different companies and realized I should try some before buying more. I am stocking up for emergencies/ Hurricanes. One brands protein pack is vegan. Lentils and beans. The taste was good but you have to boil for 25 minutes. That takes a lot of propane if your power is out. Your chicken and rice has a lot of chicken and a large portion. You only add boiling water to the pouch wait 10 minutes and it's ready to eat. I did add a little extra seasoning. And great for my girlfriend that has nut allergy.

This is one of my go to meals on the trail because it is actually creamy mac and cheese and is very filling. I like to add some freeze dried broccoli every once in a while for some texture difference. Noodles always seem to take a little longer to rehydrate, so I give this one a few extra minutes on the soak time.

I had my doubts about this one admittedly. They were assuaged however after trying this on a hunting trip. The biscuit pieces had the texture of a fresh biscuit that had soaked a little while in gravy. The sausage crumbles added a nice flavor and texture to the gravy. The gravy taste- wise was on pair with fast food or buffet style gravy, not homemade but also serviceable. The gravy was creamy though it did n't look it. My only want was a piece more pieces of biscuit in there for the amount of gravy. I may have accidentally added a hair more water than the recommended 3/4 cup as my pot only had a marking at one cup. I eyeballed the amount of water to leave it the pot and may have missed it.
