turned my resonator banjo into an open- back. took off the steel strings and restrung it using this mono leader in open g tuning; 20lb: 5th& 1st strings, 30lb: 3rd& 2nd strings, 40lb: 4th string. once the leader stopped stretching& finally settled in, the banjo stays in tune. if i ever break a string, 50yds will last a lifetime.

I have purchased this to use on my light tackle inshore rods a while back as leader material. I use the 15lb test variety in a 3- 6' leader configuration depending on where I 'm fishing and what the structure is like below. I 've landed quite a few monster Jacks using this leader material with minimal wear and tear to the leader. I have lost one hard fighting blue runner but that's because I failed to inspect the leader after a hard jack fight. Have yet to have lost anything else since using this leader material. It does disappear quite nicely in the water.

Good Stuff! very strong.... Never had any issues. It was put to the test a couple of months ago ran into some small Black Tip Sharks. They where hitting my bait pretty hard and leaders I made where holding up. I was able to get they to the boat to DE hook them. And was able to use the leader again for a couple more catches before changing it..

I use this for striped bass and other north east fish. The spool size is convenient and fits in my kayak or PFD pocket for convenience. Abrasion resistance is great around rocks and bridges. One spool usually lasts about a season or more when I use it with braid as mainline.

Love the vanishing quality of line. Ties and holds knots very well.

5 jiggingMatt
I have run through 4 spools of 30lb test/ 30 yards in 6 months. Always in my small carry tackle bag. Sits next to lures and pliers in that bag( and water) and is one of my essentials. Grouper, speckled sea trout, Pampano, Jack Cervelle, and of course, the mighty snook seem to not notice the 30lb test.

Frequently Asked Questions For Fishing Leader Spool

A fishing leader spool is a coil of line that is used as a leader in fishing, providing a strong and often invisible connection between the main line and the lure or bait. Leaders are essential for protecting against abrasion from sharp objects underwater and for enhancing the stealth of the presentation, especially in clear water conditions. They come in various materials, such as fluorocarbon and monofilament, each offering different benefits depending on the fishing environment.

Fishing leaders are typically made from materials like fluorocarbon and monofilament. Fluorocarbon is known for its low visibility underwater and excellent abrasion resistance, making it ideal for clear water conditions. Monofilament, on the other hand, is more flexible and easier to handle, which can be beneficial in various fishing scenarios.

Choosing the right fishing leader depends on several factors, including the type of fish you are targeting, the fishing environment, and the type of line you are using. Consider the water clarity, as fluorocarbon leaders are often preferred in clear waters for their invisibility, while monofilament may be suitable for murkier waters. Additionally, the strength and diameter of the leader should match the main line and the species you are pursuing.

Tapered fishing leaders provide a smooth transition from the thicker part of the leader to the thinner end, which can enhance casting distance and accuracy. This design helps reduce drag in the water, making it easier for lures to move naturally. Tapered leaders are particularly beneficial when targeting finicky fish that may be more likely to bite if the presentation appears more natural.

Yes, fishing leaders can be used in both freshwater and saltwater fishing, but it's important to choose the right type based on the environment. Saltwater leaders are often designed to withstand harsher conditions and are typically more abrasion-resistant due to the presence of rough structures like rocks and reefs. Freshwater leaders may focus more on stealth and sensitivity, especially in clear water situations.

The appropriate leader length can vary based on the fishing technique and conditions. A longer leader may be beneficial in clear water to reduce visibility, while a shorter leader can provide more control and sensitivity in murky waters. Typically, leaders range from 3 to 10 feet, but adjusting the length based on the specific fishing scenario and target species can enhance your success.
