This is a great all around lure. I buy it in the uv green tiger and it kills on days when nothing else works. I have caught almost every type of freshwater game fish in my area south eastern NY with this lure including but not limited to trout, bass, pickerel, muskies and perch. This is an essential part of an anglers tackle box.

I like this little crankbait. Casts far and I just rip it out of grass and brush. You can catch bass with this thing. I got mine in the Orange Tiger UV.

Definitely my go to lure. If you just wan na catch a fish tie one of these on. Its small but VERY loud for a tiny lipless crankbait. Can cast really good even with a bait caster and is fairly aerodynamic, lands straight and belly down `` 99% '' of the time. I use this for both salt and fresh water. Ive caught panfish of many sizes along with bass, chain pickerel, crappie, white+ yellow perch, red drum, baby striper barely longer than the bait to 20+ inchers. Its just a fish catcher! Colors I mainly use for this are helsinki shad and blue chrome( pure personal opinion but Im sure all the colors work). Im trying the pink tiger next! Random: This was one of the first rapala lures Ive ever bought back in the day( Im only 18, lol) and it quickly became a lure I always had faith in. Whenever I was feelin one of those `` not so serious '' kind of fishing days Id always have at least one of these in my mini tackle crate.

Frequently Asked Questions For Flat Sided Crankbaits

Flat sided crankbaits are designed with a flat profile, which allows them to produce a unique wobbling action in the water. This design helps create a tighter swimming motion, making them effective for mimicking baitfish, especially in colder water conditions. Unlike round-bodied crankbaits, flat sided versions tend to have a more subtle vibration and can be more effective in clear water or when fish are less aggressive. They are often used for targeting species that are more selective in their feeding habits.

Flat sided crankbaits are particularly effective in cooler water conditions and during the early spring and late fall when fish are less active. Their unique design allows for a tight wobble and subtle vibrations, making them ideal for targeting fish in clear water or when fish are more finicky. These lures can also be useful in areas with heavy cover, as they can be retrieved slowly to entice strikes from nearby fish.

Choosing the right size of flat sided crankbait depends on several factors, including the type of fish you are targeting, the water conditions, and the time of year. Generally, larger crankbaits can be effective for bigger species or in deeper waters, while smaller sizes may work better for panfish or in shallower areas. Additionally, consider the forage in the water; matching the size of the crankbait to the local baitfish can enhance your chances of success. Experimenting with different sizes can also help you determine what works best for your specific fishing situation.

Flat sided crankbaits are typically constructed from durable materials such as plastic or wood. Plastic is often used for its lightweight properties and ability to be molded into various shapes, while wood can provide a more traditional feel and unique buoyancy characteristics. Many models also feature a painted or finished exterior to enhance their visual appeal and mimic the appearance of natural prey. Additionally, some crankbaits may incorporate metal components for added weight and stability in the water.

Flat sided crankbaits are designed to create a unique wobbling action that can effectively mimic the movement of distressed baitfish. This action is particularly appealing to certain fish species, as it can trigger aggressive feeding responses. Additionally, their flat profile allows for a more subtle presentation, making them suitable for clear water conditions where fish may be more cautious. Many anglers find that these lures excel in colder water temperatures, as they can entice fish that are less active.

The design and shape of flat sided crankbaits influence their performance by creating a unique action and vibration in the water. Their flat profile allows for a tighter wobble, which can be effective in mimicking distressed baitfish. This design also helps them maintain stability at various retrieval speeds, making them versatile for different fishing conditions. Additionally, the flat sides can enhance visibility and attract fish by reflecting light in a way that draws attention.

Flat sided crankbaits are primarily designed for freshwater fishing, where their unique shape and action can effectively mimic baitfish. They are particularly useful in clear water conditions and during cooler months when fish are more selective. While some anglers may use them in saltwater environments, their effectiveness can vary based on the specific conditions and target species. It's important to consider the water type and fish behavior when choosing the right crankbait for your fishing needs.

To effectively fish with flat sided crankbaits, anglers can utilize a steady retrieve technique, which allows the lure to maintain a consistent depth and action. Varying the speed of the retrieve can also be beneficial, as it helps mimic the movement of prey and can trigger strikes from fish. Additionally, incorporating pauses during the retrieve can create an enticing action that attracts fish. Fishing in areas with structure or cover can enhance the effectiveness of these lures, as they often provoke reaction strikes from nearby fish.

Seasonal changes can significantly influence the effectiveness of flat sided crankbaits. During warmer months, fish are often more active and may respond well to the subtle vibrations and tight wobble of these lures. In cooler seasons, fish tend to be less aggressive, so a slower retrieve with flat sided crankbaits can entice bites as they mimic the movement of prey. Additionally, water temperature and clarity can affect fish behavior, making it important to adjust your fishing strategy accordingly throughout the year.

When selecting colors and patterns for flat sided crankbaits, consider the water clarity and the natural forage in the area. In clear water, more natural and subtle colors often work well, while brighter or more vibrant patterns can be effective in murky conditions. Additionally, seasonal changes can influence fish behavior, so matching the color to the current environment or the time of year can enhance your chances of success. Experimenting with different colors and patterns can help you determine what works best in your specific fishing conditions.
