Great carrier that is easy to install and easy to use. Hauled a large 13. 5' tandem Kayak for a 14 hour trip recently without any issue.

Worked well for our 1, 200 mile trip. We had two kayaks strapped to this and had no issues.

My partner and I recently bought two kayaks from Dick ’s and needed to transport them over 100 miles through several mountain passes on a windy day. On a whim, we bought this kit and we are so glad we did. In the parking lot of the Dick ’s, we were able to install the kit on the crossbars of her Subaru Outback within 30 minutes and did not need a single tool for assembly! The instructions that came with the kit were clear and taught us how to safely secure our kayaks to the car. After tightening the straps, the kayaks didn ’ t budge for the entire trek home. This is a great product that is easy to use and effective in fulfilling its purpose.

I like that it had the felt padding in the rear and rubber pad for the front feet. The felt makes it easy to slide my kayak and the rubber help keep it in place.

Until about 2 weeks ago, I had to do a clean- and- jerk type move to hoist my 70 lb. Hobie Revo 13 on and off the roof of my Corolla. Always 1 lift away from an injury to a 60 year old back, till now! I should have gotten this system a couple of years ago.

We already owned one set of Dock Glides and learned how helpful they are for loading and sliding the kayak into position

[ I got this so that I would have an easier time loading and unloading my kayak onto my car by myself. It's definitely much easier than the J hook style of rack. It feels very sturdy and I 've never had any trouble with anything shifting during long drives. The front pads tend to flip backwards during loading the kayak sometimes, which makes you have to do a little maneuvering with the boat to get them to flip back the right way. Otherwise, its great!

I would recommend this over two separate carriers if you have 2 kayaks, and even if you only have 1 kayak or SUP because of the ability to fold out of the

We have used this rack for 2 trips. It does not lock, but is east to remove from the crossbar to be stowed inside the vehicle while we were camping. The rack is compact so that we were ae to carry a kayak and a canoe on our trips. After a 5 hour car ride, the vessels were still secure and stable. Excellent product.

Nice quality, this mounted perfectly on Toyota OEM crossbars as the bracket is about 4 '' wide. I suggest putting the straps on the rack 1 kayak at a time and start with loading the side of the vehicle with the rack farthest away( if not centered) as it is easy to get them tangled and bunched over each other. Also, if you have an SUV you will be hopeless putting on 2 kayaks by yourself if you are under 6' tall. I bought my rack second hand( used once) from a shorter person with a big SUV.

We have used the Thule Compass many times and we love it. The only issue is that it does take a while to load and secure boats. Not a huge deal and should get better with practice.

I love these racks! Very sturdy, quick to put on, look awesome on my jeep, and I love that they came with straps. I ended up buying a second pair and fit two kayaks on roof perfectly. Saw someone with a cheaper j rack and they just do n't compare at all!

I 've used a few times now and overall it's a very good J- cradle kayak rack for the price. I 'm going to buy some easier to fasten bow and stern lines but overall it's a nice system. It would be nice if they had locking feature for peace of mind.

As a canoeist/kayaker for 47 years, I 've tied/racked/trucked a lot of boats. I can recommend the quality of the Malone racks... study frames, reliable attachment system to the car/van, good padding to avoid damage to the boats, good sturdy straps for securing the racks& boats. However, I have been using 2 sets of the Malone J- Racks which can stay attached to the vehicle but can be folded down when not in active use. Getting the racks folded or back into place is very easy and I think can make setting the straps before racking the boat a tad easier than a stationary rack. I like the idea of calling less attention to the fact I have the racks on at all, also cuts down on wind resistence and noise. For a few dollars more, you should shop around for a deal on the Malone fold- down racks.

I have been wanting this kayak rack for a long time and finally bit the bullet and ordered it. I am so happy that I did! This is a great kayak rack! I am a 5 ’ 3 ” woman and I can load my kayak on top of my compact SUV by myself and be ready to roll in about 20 minutes. The dock grip holds my kayak so well that I don ’ t feel I need to over tighten the cam straps, which is something I felt I had to do with other racks.

This kayak carrier is excellent. The pads hold the kayak underneath and conform to the shape of the sides. The boat is held very securely.

I bought the malone saddle pro and I love it. My problem before was I was unable to lift a kayak by myself for it to sit sideways on the roof of my SUV. Easy installment, adjusts to the shape of my kayak. I should of bought this setup last year. Would suggest this product to anyone.

I recently bought this for my first kayak( Perception) L. L. Bean Manatee 10. 0. It installed nicely on my 2010 Chevy Equinox and with the help of the Thule slide, I am able to lift and load without any help. It was a nice snug transport of 10 miles driving 55mph. I am a 44 year old, 5' 3 '' female. In purchasing this item, I researched the ability to load by myself, cost of the product and being able to attach the saddle to a factory installed roof rack. The fact that I will probably be able to use this on my next car was also a bonus.

Purchased this saddle for my Wilderness Ride System 115. Previously had the Yakima Evenkeel which sucked for my yak because it was too heavy. The Malone Saddleup Pro is a lot better as far as quality goes. It is VERY easy to assemble and only takes a few minutes. It is also very ridgid and strong. This kayak saddle has made my life easier. The rear saddles with the felt lining make it really easy to slide and push the Kayak up. I have this saddle paired with the Yakima Showboat 66 '' Roller System on my 2013 Subaru Wrx hatchback. The two products work great to load heavier kayaks by myself.

Like it so far- we have a Rav 4 Adventure and had to put the rack in the middle which makes it a little harder to get the Kayaks on the roof. It might have been better if we bought two separate units so they could be closer to the side of the Rav. Also with the support straight up, the bigger Kayak needs to be held until you get the first strap on it. All that said, the rack seem strong and the Kayaks rode well.

I bought this roof rack to help transport my 13. 5 ft kayak and my daughter's 6ft kayak. Before I had just mine and transported it with cheap styrofoam blocks that worked, but made me very nervous while driving. But once I needed to transport 2, I did n't trust the styrofoam ones. This purchase is exactly what I needed! Easy to install, very sturdy, and helped transport both kayaks with no problem what so ever! Very happy with my purchase.

Did n't want to spend for the big name roof racks. Bought this for my Nissan Sentra. Easy to install and adjust. Paired with a soft cargo topper bag and 1500 miles on I- 95 at highway speeds and rain with zero issues. No rattles, whistles or slippage. Perfect for the occasional uses i will have. A bargain.

These are probably the best universal type roof racks you will be able to find. I shopped extensively for racks that would be able to stand up to transporting a heavy kayak over thousands of miles. Other brand name racks like Thule or Yakima would have cost 4 to 5 times the cost of these racks. These were the only ones that seemed to be able to perform just as well as the higher priced options. We used these on a 2016 Honda CRV( does not have a rain gutter or lip to catch other types of attachment systems) to transport the kayak from NY to Florida through a major southern blizzard with these racks on the car. The racks and kayak did not budge an inch. The ratchets seemed to work fine. I cinched them up as tightly as possible and then tied a half hitch as insurance. We kept the kayak on the rack with some budget ratchet tie downs from Harbor Freight. The fact that the tie downs for the rack do go through the interior of the car may put some people off but this also make the racks very secure. I also want to add that these did not mar the finish or cause any scratches or dents to the vehicle. I highly recommend these if you are having difficulty trying to find racks that work with your vehicle.

I bought this to take my 62lb Kayak from NC to Michigan to visit family. Easy to set up on my Escape's roof w/o rails. Used 2 racket ties and 2 bungee ties on front and back of kayak. No issues traveling over 1000 miles each way. Some noise once I got up to 70mph but that was it
When selecting a kayak carrier for your Subaru, consider the weight capacity of the carrier, compatibility with your vehicle's roof rack system, and the type of kayaks you plan to transport. Additionally, look for features such as ease of installation, security mechanisms, and whether the carrier can accommodate multiple kayaks if needed. It's also important to think about the materials used in the construction for durability and weather resistance.
Yes, kayak carriers are often designed to accommodate various types of kayaks, including sit-on-top, touring, and inflatable models. Some carriers may offer adjustable features to securely hold different shapes and sizes, while others may be specialized for particular kayak styles. It's essential to choose a carrier that matches the design of your kayak for optimal safety and stability during transport.
To ensure your kayak is securely attached to the carrier, always follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation and use. Make sure to use all provided straps and tie-downs, checking that they are tight and secure. Additionally, consider using bow and stern lines for extra stability, especially during long trips or at high speeds.
Many kayak carriers are versatile and can be used for other types of watercraft, such as paddleboards or canoes, depending on their design and weight capacity. However, it's important to verify that the carrier can accommodate the specific dimensions and weight of the other watercraft you intend to transport. Always check the manufacturer's specifications to ensure compatibility.
Using a kayak carrier allows for more space inside your vehicle, making it more comfortable for passengers and cargo. It also provides a safer transport option, as kayaks can be bulky and may obstruct visibility if placed inside. Additionally, a carrier designed for kayaks will secure the craft more effectively, reducing the risk of damage during transport.
