I use it for loading an Ocean fishing kayak on a Chevy Tahoe. Makes sliding the heavy beast up there very easy and keeps it on track in the center of the vehicle.

5 Ben
Once you put it on the pads it just does n't move, very stable and when you need to put it on or remove it, its a snap the pads incline so you can grab it easier. thanks Thule

For a while now, I 've had one DockGrip and one( competitor) J cradle to transport two boats. I 've always preferred the DockGrip, and finally ponied up for a second. This transports a somewhat heavy boat, but it's always felt secure, loaded easily, and been a breeze to take off and put on each season. I 've never worried about the boat on the DockGrip like I have the one on the J. Additionally, Thule includes a pretty high quality and comprehensive tie down kit. I 'd not only recommend this to a friend, I recommended it to myself... and bought a second.

Kayak racks and fixtures. Very happy with personal serves price etc for added parts i needed to purchase.

This is an awesome system with a low profile so my truck does n't look like an over sized insect.

5 Northwoods Kayaker
I recently bought this for my first kayak( Perception) L. L. Bean Manatee 10. 0. It installed nicely on my 2010 Chevy Equinox and with the help of the Thule slide, I am able to lift and load without any help. It was a nice snug transport of 10 miles driving 55mph. I am a 44 year old, 5' 3 '' female. In purchasing this item, I researched the ability to load by myself, cost of the product and being able to attach the saddle to a factory installed roof rack. The fact that I will probably be able to use this on my next car was also a bonus.

5 dk2020
I bought the malone saddle pro and I love it. My problem before was I was unable to lift a kayak by myself for it to sit sideways on the roof of my SUV. Easy installment, adjusts to the shape of my kayak. I should of bought this setup last year. Would suggest this product to anyone.

4 Azballa7
Purchased this saddle for my Wilderness Ride System 115. Previously had the Yakima Evenkeel which sucked for my yak because it was too heavy. The Malone Saddleup Pro is a lot better as far as quality goes. It is VERY easy to assemble and only takes a few minutes. It is also very ridgid and strong. This kayak saddle has made my life easier. The rear saddles with the felt lining make it really easy to slide and push the Kayak up. I have this saddle paired with the Yakima Showboat 66 '' Roller System on my 2013 Subaru Wrx hatchback. The two products work great to load heavier kayaks by myself.

Until about 2 weeks ago, I had to do a clean- and- jerk type move to hoist my 70 lb. Hobie Revo 13 on and off the roof of my Corolla. Always 1 lift away from an injury to a 60 year old back, till now! I should have gotten this system a couple of years ago.

5 SousoFine
I like that it had the felt padding in the rear and rubber pad for the front feet. The felt makes it easy to slide my kayak and the rubber help keep it in place.

4 tcard1
[ I got this so that I would have an easier time loading and unloading my kayak onto my car by myself. It's definitely much easier than the J hook style of rack. It feels very sturdy and I 've never had any trouble with anything shifting during long drives. The front pads tend to flip backwards during loading the kayak sometimes, which makes you have to do a little maneuvering with the boat to get them to flip back the right way. Otherwise, its great!

Product is great roof top kayak carrier. I am just to old and weak to be able to lift a kayak onto the roof of my SUV any longer. Had to return product only for the reason of my inability to use.

5 Jimbo
We own a 2016 two door Jeep Wrangler Sport and was looking for a way to carry two Kayaks on top. A Thule representative was very helpful. My setup is the Thule Rapid Gutter Foot Pack, Thule WingBar Evo 150 and Thule Compass carrier. I also purchased four `` hood loops '', under the hood and rear door, to secure the kayak stern and bow with additional straps. We drove 125 miles to a local river and it handled great. Coming home we towed the Jeep with kayaks behind our Winnebago motorhome and again absolutely no issues. So far we love these products! We 'll know even better after a four week trip from SoCal to Montana.

5 amadeushat
Worked great to transport two 14 foot Necky Manitou kayaks!

Really enjoy using this product on my car! Unlike the normal j hooks that are used for kayaks, you can collapse them when not in use.

My partner and I recently bought two kayaks from Dick ’s and needed to transport them over 100 miles through several mountain passes on a windy day. On a whim, we bought this kit and we are so glad we did. In the parking lot of the Dick ’s, we were able to install the kit on the crossbars of her Subaru Outback within 30 minutes and did not need a single tool for assembly! The instructions that came with the kit were clear and taught us how to safely secure our kayaks to the car. After tightening the straps, the kayaks didn ’ t budge for the entire trek home. This is a great product that is easy to use and effective in fulfilling its purpose.

5 Snarkana
Worked well for our 1, 200 mile trip. We had two kayaks strapped to this and had no issues.

Great carrier that is easy to install and easy to use. Hauled a large 13. 5' tandem Kayak for a 14 hour trip recently without any issue.

I ’ m first feel nervous and worried about new put top with kayak. While i was drive depend Mph 65- 70 none problem. They are very smooth and not fall or shake none. There is great the product.

I Bought these racks for a 10 Hour trip to North Carolina. these things are absolutely rock steady. The steel Straps that attach to your cross bars do n't slip a millimeter during transit. also the strap guide on the top bar of these racks are great so you can set the strap and fold it up without having to climb up on the car to do so. Very pricey as far as kayak racks go but worth every penny in piece of mind.

5 mdezrin
I have 3 of these carriers. They are solid, sturdy add- ons to my roof rack. One of my kayaks is an unwieldy 72 lb tandem. The design of the rack helps us slide it up on top and into the carrier.

5 Wepmodee
Purchased 2 sets of the Hull- a- port for our Wrangler JK. Used the the Jeep brand cross bars and the Thule J hooks fit perfectly. Very easy to put on and take off the cross bars. Our kayaks fit perfectly on the Hulu- a- ports and are very secure. We paid extra for the best and we are not disappointed…would highly recommend and would buy them again.

Easy to use& makes my Mad River feel very secure in transit.

OK to be fair, I have n't done my final installation( waiting for xadapt12 kit) but can say I love the concept, just not the `` clamps '' that hold the portage padded feet. They do n't really fit an AeroBlade very well( flipped or not). I am going to use Xadapt12 which holds padded foot to AeroBlade by means of T bolt in AeroBlade track.( That's what center hole in padded foot is for.) Expect if to work excellently. Crossroads foot pack and AeroBlades also excellent.

5 Tim
I have used other car roof canoe carriers and found them lacking. This one, used in combination with the Evo WingBar, is tremendously better. The engineering and quality of materials is impressive. I ca n't imagine anything more secure and easy to use.

5 Lynn
Had a set for 20 years on my Saab that worked flawlessly. These fit my canoe perfectly. and hold well.

5 Drob23
Trying to research options to haul a canoe a few times on my F150 and this came up. It ’s a bit of a pricey option when combined with the the roof rack. In the end I was able to haul a canoe securely without issue. All straps were provided and the install was easy and secure. I ’ d recommend it.

Like it so far- we have a Rav 4 Adventure and had to put the rack in the middle which makes it a little harder to get the Kayaks on the roof. It might have been better if we bought two separate units so they could be closer to the side of the Rav. Also with the support straight up, the bigger Kayak needs to be held until you get the first strap on it. All that said, the rack seem strong and the Kayaks rode well.

Was able to easily install into a wall stud and it keeps the kayak off the floor and out of the way. I placed the J hooks high enough that when I want to use the kayak I can just flip the kayak onto the car rack. This eliminates lifting off, down and back up again.

Easy to install, sturdy once it is. Can hold a 14. 5- foot- 80lb. tandem. Depending how low or high you put on your wall, the trick to placing a long and heavy kayak is to slide it from one side to the other, rather than lifting it over the hooks.

My Folbot kayak is my family's favorite, but until I bought the SeaWing Stinger getting it on the van was a struggle and my wife was always nervous during the trip. Now I can load it by myself. It looks secure, is secure and no wind noise. the family is very happy.

5 Kayer 2014
This Kayak rack is great. It is easy to install and easy to load. Safe and effective. When I am hauling just a few miles at 45 mph I skipped the bow and tail lines and it was just fine. When I haul on the highway I will strap is down fully. Liked this product enough I ordered a second one!

4 LindaG
Unfortunately, I could n't use this system because unlike the picture, the rear piece does not extend over the back of my vehicle because I have to locate the cross rails more forward. Also, my kayak is too heavy for me to lift onto the piece and I had to figure out a difference way to get it on top of my SUV. For most people, though, it's a good system and the price was very reasonable

Frequently Asked Questions For Saddle Kayak Carriers

A saddle kayak carrier is a type of roof rack designed to securely hold a kayak in place during transport. It typically features a cradling design that supports the hull of the kayak, providing stability and reducing the risk of damage. These carriers are easy to install and can be adjusted to fit various kayak shapes and sizes.

Saddle kayak carriers are often made from durable materials such as aluminum, steel, or high-strength plastic. These materials are chosen for their ability to withstand outdoor elements and resist corrosion. Additionally, many carriers feature padding or rubber components to protect the kayak's surface and enhance grip during transport.

Saddle kayak carriers are versatile and can accommodate a wide range of kayak types, including recreational, touring, and fishing kayaks. However, it's important to check the carrier's specifications to ensure compatibility with your specific kayak's size and shape. Some models may be better suited for certain styles, so consider your kayak's design when selecting a carrier.

The weight capacity of a saddle kayak carrier is typically listed in the product specifications provided by the manufacturer. It's crucial to adhere to this limit to ensure safe transport and avoid damaging both the carrier and the kayak. Additionally, consider the weight of any additional gear or accessories you may be carrying along with the kayak.

When choosing a saddle kayak carrier, consider features such as adjustable cradles for a secure fit, ease of installation, and compatibility with your vehicle's roof rack system. Look for carriers with padded surfaces to protect your kayak and those that offer additional security features, like straps or locking mechanisms, to prevent theft during transport.

Yes, saddle kayak carriers are designed for both short trips and long-distance travel. When planning a longer journey, ensure that the carrier is properly installed and that the kayak is securely fastened. It's also advisable to periodically check the straps and connections during stops to ensure everything remains secure throughout your travels.
