My partner and I recently bought two kayaks from Dick ’s and needed to transport them over 100 miles through several mountain passes on a windy day. On a whim, we bought this kit and we are so glad we did. In the parking lot of the Dick ’s, we were able to install the kit on the crossbars of her Subaru Outback within 30 minutes and did not need a single tool for assembly! The instructions that came with the kit were clear and taught us how to safely secure our kayaks to the car. After tightening the straps, the kayaks didn ’ t budge for the entire trek home. This is a great product that is easy to use and effective in fulfilling its purpose.

Bought a set of these straps in 1988 and still use them today to keep longboards in the truck bed. I have had other straps that worked in a similar manner that have fallen apart or had the tightening mechanism fail. I am buying another set for securing loads above the cab. Good job Thule!

Was easy to install. Be sure to read the instructions. There are adjustment screws you need to use for a snug fit. Loaded easily before my paddle. After a few hours of paddling, I did not have the strength to get the kayak back on. I am a big, strong guy. My kayak is only 68 pounds. Thought I could do it. Fortunately, someone came along and pushed it right up for me. I an going to try it again with the bow rope looped up around the carrier bar. Otherwise, I will only be taking it where I know I can get some help loading.

I love this rack! Easy to load and unload your kayak from and easy to strap it down. It's very solid and my kayak does n't move when traveling at 65 mph. No bow or stern tie straps are even necessary when going short distances at 55- 60 mph. My kayak lies flat and does n't allow the wind to push my vehicle while traveling. Compared to other kayak carriers it is also very affordable. I would definitely recommend this rack.

I 'm using these for kayak racks on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They really fit nicely into recesses under the hood that will keep them from sliding in either direction. I 've used a few times now and overall it's a very good J- cradle kayak rack for the price. I 'm going to buy some easier to fasten bow and stern lines but overall it's a nice system. It would be nice if they had locking feature for peace of mind.

River Knight Steve
As a canoeist/kayaker for 47 years, I 've tied/racked/trucked a lot of boats. I can recommend the quality of the Malone racks... study frames, reliable attachment system to the car/van, good padding to avoid damage to the boats, good sturdy straps for securing the racks& boats. However, I have been using 2 sets of the Malone J- Racks which can stay attached to the vehicle but can be folded down when not in active use. Getting the racks folded or back into place is very easy and I think can make setting the straps before racking the boat a tad easier than a stationary rack. I like the idea of calling less attention to the fact I have the racks on at all, also cuts down on wind resistence and noise. For a few dollars more, you should shop around for a deal on the Malone fold- down racks.

I just bought a new vehicle and needed a rear tie- down solution for my kayaks. These are simply awesome. The car's got a lift gate, and these slip through the openings next to the top hinges. The tie off is rock solid. So much easier than crawling under the car looking for a tow hook and when you 're done, you just remove them. Simple, effective, and absolutely worth the price.

I purchased these to use on my Fiat 500C as it does not have any existing tow hooks. Two for the front that fit nicely inside along the sides of the engine area. [ I got this so that I would have an easier time loading and unloading my kayak onto my car by myself. It's definitely much easier than the J hook style of rack. It feels very sturdy and I 've never had any trouble with anything shifting during long drives. The front pads tend to flip backwards during loading the kayak sometimes, which makes you have to do a little maneuvering with the boat to get them to flip back the right way. Otherwise, its great!

Works Great for fitting multiple boats on a rack. If you are going to put one boat on each side I would recommend buying a set of the 15 ft. load straps. If you are putting this on an Xsporter remember to use the Xadapt 3 adapter kit. There is a link to it in the technical specifcations area on this page. Not sure why Jay from a previous review could n't stumble on that. Great Product, use mine all the time and recommend to all my friends.

When I got kayaks I was trying to avoid racks like the J style Hull a Port. I 've had issues with boats shifting, and am not a fan of the design. The Stacker is a simple design that uses the crossbars to help keep the boat in place. Never had an issue with shifting, even on 8 hour drives with two boats. It's also the cheapest Thule option for more than one boat. Very happy with my decision. Just make sure you put the straps on BEFORE you put the boat on.

I have been wanting this kayak rack for a long time and finally bit the bullet and ordered it. I am so happy that I did! This is a great kayak rack! I am a 5 ’ 3 ” woman and I can load my kayak on top of my compact SUV by myself and be ready to roll in about 20 minutes. The dock grip holds my kayak so well that I don ’ t feel I need to over tighten the cam straps, which is something I felt I had to do with other racks.

We have used this rack for 2 trips. It does not lock, but is east to remove from the crossbar to be stowed inside the vehicle while we were camping. The rack is compact so that we were ae to carry a kayak and a canoe on our trips. After a 5 hour car ride, the vessels were still secure and stable. Excellent product.
5
Nice quality, this mounted perfectly on Toyota OEM crossbars as the bracket is about 4 '' wide. I suggest putting the straps on the rack 1 kayak at a time and start with loading the side of the vehicle with the rack farthest away( if not centered) as it is easy to get them tangled and bunched over each other. Also, if you have an SUV you will be hopeless putting on 2 kayaks by yourself if you are under 6' tall. I bought my rack second hand( used once) from a shorter person with a big SUV.

This was really easy to install. Be sure to look closely at the pictures! The text descriptions were almost no help. How do you `` dress '' a pulley anyway? I stack two kayaks on each other and pull them up together. I 'm probably getting close to the max weight that way but it works for my situation. Hardware is sturdy. Rope seems soft but has n't worn out after a few years use. Just something I keep an eye on. Works well. After all this time I expect the hardware to continue to be robust and the rope is doing better than expected. The rope may be intentionally done that way to help with the auto lock feature which is great when you ate toed and pulling up heavy loads. I 'd buy another one without hesitation.

My canoe is finally out of the way when not in use. I love this. It was easy to install and handles the canoe perfectly. I do agree with other reviews about the strap, though. I ended up ditching the strap because I was able to connect the hooks right on to the seat. Up, up and away!

I recently bought this for my first kayak( Perception) L. L. Bean Manatee 10. 0. It installed nicely on my 2010 Chevy Equinox and with the help of the Thule slide, I am able to lift and load without any help. It was a nice snug transport of 10 miles driving 55mph. I am a 44 year old, 5' 3 '' female. In purchasing this item, I researched the ability to load by myself, cost of the product and being able to attach the saddle to a factory installed roof rack. The fact that I will probably be able to use this on my next car was also a bonus.

Purchased this saddle for my Wilderness Ride System 115. Previously had the Yakima Evenkeel which sucked for my yak because it was too heavy. The Malone Saddleup Pro is a lot better as far as quality goes. It is VERY easy to assemble and only takes a few minutes. It is also very ridgid and strong. This kayak saddle has made my life easier. The rear saddles with the felt lining make it really easy to slide and push the Kayak up. I have this saddle paired with the Yakima Showboat 66 '' Roller System on my 2013 Subaru Wrx hatchback. The two products work great to load heavier kayaks by myself.

We bought this a week ago to store two kayaks outside in our carport. We had to buy a 2x4 to hang it between two support posts that were too far apart to use for the sling, but everything else came included in the package as advertised. Our kayaks weigh about 45 lbs each and it did take two of us to get them in the sling, but I think one strong person could do it alone, especially the bottom one. Price was great, under$ 30. Hopefully it will last as it is protected from sun and rain.

Like it so far- we have a Rav 4 Adventure and had to put the rack in the middle which makes it a little harder to get the Kayaks on the roof. Bought these for my new kayak. I 've never used a J- Style before. These were super easy to install and the directions were helpful. When loading the kayak, it was fast and easy. For not having used a rack or loaded a kayak, these worked great. I love that the racks fold down, it was worth the additional money.

Easy to install! Overall a great product! Only issues I am having is strapping which is more me probably! Sometimes the strap will not slide that easy! Plus my vehicle is some taller than most. I bought two sets hoping to put a third kayak in the middle with no luck!

Great product. Well- made. Good instructions. Easy to install and use. The only problem I have is with the second one I bought. The rails on a Toyota Sienna are not wide enough for both sets to open fully and lock. Still working on a solution.

I have been transporting my Kayak for almost 20 years and have had various Kayak specific carriers. These are great carriers and very stable. It only took me 15 minutes to install the first time, the next time it took about 8 minutes. I remove them between trips and so far it has been really easy. Highly recommended, esp if you have a tall vehicle or larger size Kayak, as the ramps on the front of each carrier really come in handy to prevent contact with your vehicle, or in my case, my wife's baby!! `` Dont you scratch my car! '':)

Bought these racks in early spring and have used them numerous times. The fold over feature allows for easy stringing of the hold down straps. Highly recommend these over fixed J style racks.

I say best for the price,* because if you have any wide and heavy yak, then this is the best one out there for this price tag. I have had 3 yak's one old town PDL and a big fish 108 pdl and a sit in perception fishing yak, and this cart just get the job done with no problems, fits all 3 different types of haul's, and is a must have as a kayaker. Get this one, and when you upgrade you wo n't have to worry about is my cart going to work. With this cart Malone takes the guess work out of buying a around fair price cart.

Purchased this about a month ago to transport 2 kayaks on the weekend. I liked that these can be folded down when not in use vs some of the others I looked at. By the 3rd trip my son and I can have the kayaks mounted in about 10 minutes and less to get down. Only advice, which may be obvious, is to make sure the mounting nuts on the bottom side are tight prior to putting the kayaks up there as I find I can get about 3/4 turn in between trips.

\ My daughter's SUV had cross bars so the Malone Auto Racks were very easy to use. The directions were simple to follow and by the time she loaded the kayaks at the end of our vacation, she found the process quite easy. We appreciated being able to take both kayaks.
