I 've stepped outside and onto a rock garden and did not feel the jagged edge's of the rocks at all. One thing though, once the factory tied knot on the rawhide lace comes out good luck trying duplicate it. I would try to keep it as long as you can. My puppy untied one shoe for me and I can not tie it the way it came.
