I recommend first fastening 3- 2 '' x6 '' x42 '' boards to the ceiling to simplify installation. This makes for a very sturdy installation, allows you to install parallel or perpendicular to the rafter direction, and eliminates the issue of rafter spacing. The center brackets accept 5/16 '' lag screws, and the pulley brackets accept 1/4 '' lag screws. I used 5/16 '' x 3- 1/2 '' lags to fasten the 2 '' x6 '' boards to the ceiling rafters and 2 '' long lag screws to fasten the brackets to the boards. The pin hole did not line up with my Reese hitch. It would not seat far enough due to design. Luckily my FIL is a machinist and could modify the sleeve, so I am able to make it work. He also modified the part that holds the pole, so that the flag pole can ’ t slide all the way out the open bottom. And then he painted the whole thing black. Good quality metal, seems sturdy. I use it to proudly display a 3x5 American Flag on the back of my Jeep with a 1 ” metal flag pole.

[ I got this so that I would have an easier time loading and unloading my kayak onto my car by myself. It's definitely much easier than the J hook style of rack. It feels very sturdy and I 've never had any trouble with anything shifting during long drives. The front pads tend to flip backwards during loading the kayak sometimes, which makes you have to do a little maneuvering with the boat to get them to flip back the right way. Otherwise, its great!

OK. So I 'm 70 years old and not really strong enough to handle those big, heavy hitch racks. This works really well. Not too heavy but well built. Straps are easy to secure and loosen( even better than the old Bones I still have after 20 years). The distance from the vehicle to the bike frame prevents scratching the paint, though I do use a bungee cord to secure the front wheel. The hitch sways just a bit but I did not even notice I had it attached once I got going. Would recommend.

I 've had a Bones Trunk mount rack for 10+ years. Converted it from a 2 to a 3 and it rolls on our Jeep for event rides. I bought a Audi S5 convertible and wo n't put any rubber feet on the trunk. Had a stealth hitch installed married it to the Bones Hitch rack. Sweet! So easy to mount and no worrying about mounting straps, etc. It is the bomb!!

I bought this carrier for my 2007 Honda Element. I could n't use my Saris Bones trunk carrier because of the lift gate and tail gate. I just installed the platform a week ago. The instructions could use a bit more on the particulars. I actually ended up watching a video from The Rack Shop where they put it on an OBW. That brief video showing it installed was a big help when it came to laying it all out. I paid close attention to how they had it centered on the car, that turned out good for me. This video also showed me which bar was the front and which was the back. A small label would be nice. Despite so many warnings, from myself and other reviews, I still put it together and then had to remove parts in order to put in parts that I forgot, like the 5 t- nuts that the 5 bars screw to. I had to install it on the car myself. I found I could just put the two bars on, front and back, then move them together enough to make it easy to comfortably lift and carry. with a couple of large bath towels on top of the car I could set it up there without scratching anything. I installed directly to the 4 feet( Evo Raised Rail) which hooked to the rails that came on the car. Once those were in place and tight, then I installed the 5 bars across the center, all evenly spaced. Took a few hours and a few portable tables at slightly different heights( cause that's what I had to work with) but I finally got it. There were a few hiccups but it's all good and tight now. It looks good up there, wind noise is noticeable but negligible. I was told by Thule sales to expect new adaptors in 2024 that will allow their cargo boxes to hook directly to the Caprocks. So that will be nice if I decide to go that route too. One piece of advice, if you can, buy a set of the Torx wrenches. 1/4 '' socket type would be the nicest. The ones they send with it are small and difficult to use.

Instructions were a bit hard to follow but not so bad once you got going. I made a `` mistake '' and ordered a small. Apparently Thule in North America recommends a medium for the Forester Wildnerness while in Europe they recommend the Small. That being said, I 'm quite happy I ordered the small as I think the square medium would have a lot of over hang on either side. I did have to move the feet to the outermost bars in order to have the minimum 700mm separation( unlike the pictures in the instructions) but after a little grumbling it was fine. Looks great. Really robust and I 'm looking forward to using it. Not much extra wind noise on the road. Maybe a tiny bit worse gas mileage. After a confusing start with picking the right size, I 'm quite pleased. Expensive but worth it.

It installed nicely on my 2010 Chevy Equinox and with the help of the Thule slide, I am able to lift and load without any help. It was a nice snug transport of 10 miles driving 55mph. I am a 44 year old, 5' 3 '' female. In purchasing this item, I researched the ability to load by myself, cost of the product and being able to attach the saddle to a factory installed roof rack. Purchased this saddle for my Wilderness Ride System 115. Previously had the Yakima Evenkeel which sucked for my yak because it was too heavy. The Malone Saddleup Pro is a lot better as far as quality goes. It is VERY easy to assemble and only takes a few minutes. It is also very ridgid and strong. This kayak saddle has made my life easier. I have both the 2 and 4 bike hitch rack. I need this as I have a graphite shaft bike and can only clamp on the wheels. The great versatility allows for carrying any none e- bike. This rack allows for the ability to interchange out the wheel saddles for wider ones if need for fat tire bikes. It's made in the USA and rock solid performance. [ Pulling a double chariot is a workout- but oh so worth it! Worth every penny purchasing a second hitch if there is more than one person that may potentially pulling the chariot. Having a hitch on both my bike and husband's bike if a life... I mean thigh saver.
