I 've used different colors but yellow body with a silver blade and black with a gold blade( 1/8 th oz) seem to work the best for me in creeks and ponds. I tie a tiny barrel swivel with a clip directly on to my line( 10 lbs. braid) and attach the lure to the clip. Simple lure, casts and retrieves well, good construction. Explosive hits. Fun to use.

I 've been fishing fresh and salt water with the Johnson's Minnow spoon for over 60 years and find them perfect for fishing the grassy flats, weeds and pads for nearly all fish. I always hook on a plastic grub or pork rind strip as I believe that enhances the effectiveness. Some times I 'll cast onto a pad and wiggle it off, or let it settle on the bottom, then retrieve with a small jerk similar to fishing a plastic worm. It casts easily so 1/4 oz. is good for most spinning outfits, while 1/2 oz. works best with a casting rod. For me, silver has been the best all around, but I 'm trying out colors too, especially for salt water. If I had to fish just one spoon this would be it because of it's versatility.

I have been using these lures for over 5yrs now and I have caught just about every species of fish that's in Lake Erie on these lures. I would highly recommend these lures to anyone that's serious about walleye fishing. I saw that someone had mentioned the back hooks pulling out of the lures. I have never experienced this and I have caught walleyes in the 12lb. Range and also lakers that have been 20+ lbs and never had a fish pull the hooks out of the lure.

Having ran Millwood Lake Guide Service for over 22 years in sw Arkansas, I can tell you dont hit the lake without a plano box full of these in various colors for varying water conditions. Because our lake can change color in a matter of hours with high wind and thunderstorms, I prefer the 3/4 oz Rat- L- Trap in 3- 4 basic patterns. I always have 3 rods rigged up with 3/4 or 1/2 oz sizes, and in muddy conditions go up to the 1 oz size for increased racket and chatter. Have lost count of the thousands of Florida Bass here we have caught and released on Traps from Spring through Fall and into the Winter months. Do n't leave the boat ramp without a few of these Bass Magnets!!
