I have been wearing these boots for several months. As with all of my Xtratuf shoes and boots that are very comfortable. The sole on this style is great for the slick surfaces I have encountered. They are my go to boot. My other Xtratuf boots have been worn for years before I have to replace them. I would expect that will be the same for these.

I bought two pair of these for Christmas presents. One for myself and one for my father in law… haven ’ t had too harsh weather this winter, so the boots haven ’ t been “ tested ” too much… the previous reviews weren ’ t too positive, but hoping “ flaws ” have been fixed!!! I gave an Original Pair of XTRTUF ’s from working in Alaska 40 years ago and they are still plugging along!!!

Just took these on a snowy overnight backpacking trip and they kept my feet toasty warm/dry and I had no issues breaking them in. Traction was also surprisingly good in the snow. Only downside is the sizing- I ’ m a 6. 5 or 7 in all other Merrell boots but had to get a 7. 5 in these. Glad I tried them on beforehand because the 7 would have been too small. I ’ m on my second Canadian winter with these. Very warm, very comfortable. They ’ re tall, almost up to my knee, and fit snug around my leg( though not “ tight ”) so as not to have huge gaps where snow can get in. The Vibram Ice sole works — good traction on slippery surfaces. Note, however, these boots are not light, nor are they flexible like cheap boots — there ’ ll be no trips strolling in the mall with these. These are serious boots for serious cold.

Very easy to slip on and secure once on your foot. This can be difficult to achieve with a slip- on boot, but these nail it. The rubber material is completely waterproof, and the bottom tread is excellent on icy surfaces. If you live in a cold, coastal area( Maine, Alaska, Nova Scotia, etc) these will be a lifesaver in the winter months. Just returned from AK and I had the chance to wear these in ice and snow. They are very stable, I did n't slip at all. The fit is nice because it allows for a thicker sock, but I did order my usual size. The sole has a noticeable cushion, which I like. There is a low pile/fleece lining that feels good!
