I made a decision to purchase this reel because they were on sale. I am a Shimano guy. I bought one and put it on my most abused application. 65 pound braid. On my frog rod. One year later I purchased 2 more due to apparent toughness of the first. Put them on my second and third most used rods. Fast forward two more years, I have replaced all of my Shimano reels. And do n't expect to look back. Cost is 30 to 40 percent lower than the Shimano reels. Thank you for making the choice to keep these reels in an affordable price.

I have been getting into Bait Caster reels. Bought Shimano, Diawa, and this Lews reel. The Shimano Curado only had 4 brake setting and I could n't get it to cast very far without backlash. The Diawa worked ok. The tention knob was very touchy and hard to access behind the drag. The Lews had a great brake knob that had a good range of tension. I 've had the 12000D for over 3 years. That's after a lot of abuse, with little to no maintenance and never failed. Yes! it's a bit pricey but worth every penny of it. I purchased the 30 for my daughter about a month ago to go with her Stratus rod. She wanted pink braid but we could only find 15lb line so we spooled it up and threw a topwater on it and tested it out. To both of our amazement, she casted a good 35 yards on her first cast which is about double of what she was capable of with her old reel using the same rod and line brand. We switched rods keeping the same line and again, 30 - 35 yards easy. I know there are a few factors when casting, but the only change made was the reel. This led me to believe that this reel made a huge difference for her. This is probably one of the best purchases for fishing equipment by far. That said, the rod has great action and the real is very smooth and accurate.... then I hooked a personal best large mouth at 9lbs witch should be within its spec but the rod snapped 23 ” from the tip. I wasn ’ t over extended or pushing the limits. The line held and I painfully hand lined it in. If I had to do it again, I wouldn ’ t change a thing! I WILL perches this combo again.

Exceptional combo for your average fisherman. Not too expensive, but not a cheapie either. It has an easy learning curve for those of us who are new to baitcasters and is solid enough for more experienced anglers to throw around at will. My go to set - up at the moment below the dam when I need a long cast with a fast retrieve. I couldn ’ t be happier with this purchase.

I have had this for 5+ months and I find it quite nice. I have had no problems with the mechanical parts. I have fished jigs, frogs, poppers, and crank baits. It handles pike just fine.

I ’ ve been buying these octane reels for 4 years and fishing quantum reels all my life. I still have all 4 of them and have actually broke 30lb braid on a couple fish. It could be smoother but it doesn ’ t bother me
