The optionality when buying this reel, makes it potentially perfect for a variety of use cases. Personally I use it for heavy casting and really like the spool, gearing options, and crank choice. Smooth, light for its size, and priced accordingly. Yet to disappoint and will update after about a year of use should things change or if maintenance is somehow problematic — not anticipating that.

I 'm still working on my skills with baitcasting reels. This Megajaws is the other side of the coin compared with me other reels. It is compact, light and well finished. It help me a to work on the precision instead of worrying about getting bird nests.

I have been very familiar with their fishing products since purchasing my first tackle bag from them about five years ago. They have yet to dissapoint. I have owned the standard MegaJaws reel and this one well surpasses it.

JJOmazing
I just ordered this reel last week and wanted to provide a detailed review of my recent purchase. Just as another reviewer shared, it is advertised as black, but my reel was a vibrant red. I spooled it with a 10lb braid and cast it with soft plastics with a 1oz weight. I set the tension so the lure just barely dropped from the end of the rod, then set the drag to 5/10. There are micro- adjust settings between the typical settings, meaning 0. 5 increments are possible. Once casting, wow, this thing can really send the bait pretty far. I would estimate I was regularly getting 35- 40yard casts on a relatively lightweight lure. Plus I was able to drop it the lure exactly where I wanted it to go. The reel is pretty typical size in the hand when palming. I would say its not the biggest or smallest, but it was comfortable to use. There is another switch on the back of the reel that changes the reel function to allow for flipping and pitching. I 've never seen this before on a reel and typically just used my thumb on the spool. When this is activated, you press the button holding it during the flip and let- go when you want the line to stop advancing. It took a few tries to get used to, but is still very intuitive to use. If you forget to switch it back when going back to do a normal long cast, it can be a surprise. However, I think it is a nice feature. I was able to catch some bass as a local pond with it and the drag was very smooth. There are a lot of bearings on this reel, box says 11+1, and it feels like it. I have multiple bait- casters, including some other higher end models, and this MegaJaws Elite reel fits right along side the others.

I bought this Okuma Startus 7 mainly for crabbing, and let me tell you, it's been a champ! Hauling up those heavy crab snares full of feisty Dungeness can really put a strain on your gear, but this reel has handled it like a pro. This reel is n't just a one- trick pony. I 've also taken it surf fishing a few times, casting out heavy bait rigs for halibut. The Startus 7 casts smoothly and far, which is essential when you 're trying to reach those deeper waters where the halibut hang out. It's held up well to the saltwater conditions too, showing no signs of corrosion. Honestly, for the price, I could n't be happier with this reel. It's a great all- around workhorse for anyone who needs a reliable saltwater reel without breaking the bank. It might not have all the fancy features of those high- end reels, but it gets the job done and then some. If you 're looking for a solid, budget- friendly option for crabbing, surf fishing, or general saltwater use, I 'd definitely recommend giving the Okuma Startus 7 a try.

I bought this reel almost two weeks ago To fish for stripers, catfish, and carp. The reel is built well and not made of cheap materials, the casting and retrieving are super smooth. You could use this reel with or without the bait feeder feature, but if ur bottom fishing this is a great feature to have and use. This is my first bait feeder I owned and I ’ m overall impressed, Okuma makes great products and I will be purchasing another of the same reel.

Got to use this immediately on a recent trip to the beach. Not to heavy and bulky like my other reels. Smooth retrieve. Only caught small fish so the bait feeder system disnt really come into play but boy is it a cool feature. Look forward to using it for fall striper fishing!

Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. I caught a fish on my second cast and anticipate catching many more in the future.

During all these years of catching fish up to 30 pounds, it has never let me down. Just got another Rod for largemouth Bass and beach fishing in the Gulf, so it needs a good reel. Salmon King
I purchased this reel primarily for the size. I like a big reel for the grip and significant ease in retrieval when I have a real angry 25- 30 lb salmon fighting me. Summation, I bank fish 75% of the time. Overall, a nice, smooth, and great casting reel. I am going to give this a shot on steelhead soon. Ya it's like towing a 2 door Nissan car using a Semi truck. Due to its size it takes just a pinch of time to dial the reel in to cast& retreive. Compared to my Okuma Ceymar C65 the Penn is just a bit better in my very large hands. I am going to buy the Penn Penn Battle III BTL II 8000 in a week. Any suggestions are welcome.

CMJ0129
Good, lightweight and strong reel in the 3000 to 4000 size. The slow oscillation level line feature lays braided line on the spool very evenly and makes it great for long casting. Pair with a medium to moderate 6'8 '' to 7'6 '' inshore rod with micro- guides and you have a lightweight, sensitive, long casting setup! I have a 3000 size on a custom 7'2 '' Rod Geek carbon blank( St Croix) with MicroWave guides. The price is steep for this reel but Penn stands behind their gear and with proper care, will last a lifetime. If it were at a better price for what's under the hood, I 'd rate it 5 of 5 stars

Quality way exceeds the price! If you 're looking for a good reel you found it.
Stainless steel reels are known for their durability and resistance to corrosion, making them ideal for both freshwater and saltwater fishing. They provide a strong and reliable performance, ensuring that they can withstand the rigors of various fishing conditions. Additionally, stainless steel reels often have a smooth drag system, which enhances the overall fishing experience.
Compared to reels made from aluminum or plastic, stainless steel reels offer superior strength and longevity. While aluminum reels can be lightweight and easy to handle, they may not provide the same level of durability as stainless steel. Plastic reels, on the other hand, are often more affordable but can wear out more quickly under heavy use, making stainless steel a preferred choice for serious anglers.
Stainless steel reels are versatile and can be used for various types of fishing, including freshwater, saltwater, and even deep-sea fishing. Their robust construction makes them suitable for targeting larger species that require a reliable and strong reel. Whether you are casting from the shore or trolling from a boat, stainless steel reels can handle different fishing techniques effectively.
Generally, stainless steel reels can be heavier than those made from aluminum or plastic due to the density of the material. However, many manufacturers design stainless steel reels to balance weight and strength, ensuring that they remain manageable for anglers.
