If money is no object than get yourself a catfish series Abu, if money is tight this reel will work well if you are familiar with using baitcasting reels. If you 're going for bigger cats you might consider changing the line.

You could use this reel with or without the bait feeder feature, but if ur bottom fishing this is a great feature to have and use. I just ordered this reel last week and wanted to provide a detailed review of my recent purchase. Just as another reviewer shared, it is advertised as black, but my reel was a vibrant red. I spooled it with a 10lb braid and cast it with soft plastics with a 1oz weight. I set the tension so the lure just barely dropped from the end of the rod, then set the drag to 5/10. There are micro- adjust settings between the typical settings, meaning 0. 5 increments are possible. Once casting, wow, this thing can really send the bait pretty far. I would estimate I was regularly getting 35- 40yard casts on a relatively lightweight lure. Plus I was able to drop it the lure exactly where I wanted it to go. The reel is pretty typical size in the hand when palming. I would say its not the biggest or smallest, but it was comfortable to use. There is another switch on the back of the reel that changes the reel function to allow for flipping and pitching. I 've never seen this before on a reel and typically just used my thumb on the spool. When this is activated, you press the button holding it during the flip and let- go when you want the line to stop advancing. It took a few tries to get used to, but is still very intuitive to use. If you forget to switch it back when going back to do a normal long cast, it can be a surprise. However, I think it is a nice feature. I was able to catch some bass as a local pond with it and the drag was very smooth. There are a lot of bearings on this reel, box says 11+1, and it feels like it. I have multiple bait- casters, including some other higher end models, and this MegaJaws Elite reel fits right along side the others.

I have been getting into Bait Caster reels. Bought Shimano, Diawa, and this Lews reel. The Shimano Curado only had 4 brake setting and I could n't get it to cast very far without backlash. The Diawa worked ok. The tention knob was very touchy and hard to access behind the drag. The Lews had a great brake knob that had a good range of tension. Have had couple of nest when I forgot to put my thumb on the line but after adjusting brake at every sinker change and holding thumb on the line when casting and a few fishing trips everything has been good. I bought this reel about 2 months ago and so far, it's done great! I bought this reel for saltwater use and it has held up fine. I 've caught everything from edge of slot puppy drum off the beach to small specks and striper in the sound. I can happily report that thus far, I have had no problems with the unsealed drag. As far as the drag's performance, it could n't work better. the drag knob is easy to adjust while playing a fish and has a nice clicky- ness to it so you do n't over adjust it. I did get a little sand in there while fishing from the beach, but after removing the spool and giving it a thorough rinse it works like new. My few complaints are rather petty. The first being that the finish seems to come off fairly easily. while having it in the canoe with me it was sliding around and the matte black finish rubbed off a bit around the rim. however, it's hardly noticeable and only cosmetic. Secondly, the rubbery handle occasionally catches the fly line when I 'm casting. It juts out a bit more than I care for.

Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. I caught a fish on my second cast and anticipate catching many more in the future.

Summation, I bank fish 75% of the time. Overall, a nice, smooth, and great casting reel. I am going to give this a shot on steelhead soon. Ya it's like towing a 2 door Nissan car using a Semi truck. The reel is strong, big crank, the level winder is strong enough for 40# plus stripers and its one less thing to worry about when you are hooked up with a big bass. Plenty of drag and they hold a lot of braid( we use 30 pound Spiderwire). Just make sure you wash them well, they are not saltwater sealed as good as others. It was purchased too late in the season to be tested but I have over 40 years experience with Daiwa Reels and Rods so there is little doubt it will live up to the Daiwa repuration. It is very smooth reeling and fits and feels perfect on the Berkley ice rod.

I bought the BG 4000 as a Black Gold combo with the Daiwa rod and it is an amazingly smooth reel to cast and retrieve. Fully equivalent to my Stradic FK. Highly recommend for bass or bigger.
