I am recovering from a right foot Achilles tendon rupture surgery. I have been in a boot for 3 months. I at first needed a sturdy shoe to wear on my left foot to give me support and a little height to get close to matching the boot height. Today I get to wear shoes on both feet but still with heel lifts in my right shoe. It is all working. Great support. The soles are firm, which I love. I don ’ t like soft and mushy. The Olympus 275 was the first pair of Altras I tried…when I put them on it was as if the clouds parted, angels sang, and shafts of light shone down upon my feet! Not even joking…the level of comfort was pretty amazing. Recently hiked the West Highland Way in 4 days( 96 miles) …I used both the Olympus 275s and the Timpe 5 Gortex for anticipated rain and wetter sections of the trail. Both performed flawlessly but I do prefer the fit of the 275s over the Timpe. Almost all of my co- hikers suffered blisters…but I had all of the toe splay room in my shoe selection and really had no issues. I also really appreciated the Vibram Megagrip soles…they stuck to everything!

I switched to the 275 from the Olympus 6 due to the lighter weight and the addition of the fabric that acts like a gator to prevent rocks and debris from coming in shoe. My wife and I just completed the Camino Frances with these shoes( both of us wore the 275). My wife's shoes look like they have hardly been used and although mine are dirty, they are still in incredible shape as well. We decided to order new 275's to be delivered to us in Leon, Spain. I was a bit worried that I might need a break- in period but no break in period for us was needed at all! I do lace my shoes a bit different as I skip the first eye lace to provide a bit more room in the upper as I use Sole inserts. The Vibram sole lasted well and worked perfectly providing the necessary grip and comfort on long days. The shoes in the picture have about 300 miles on them and although they need a cleaning, they lasted very well with little wear shown. The extra fabric Altra added to the heal was also extremely comfortable and wore very well and did it's job well in keeping debris out of the shoe. I give these shoes a 5 out of 5 rating without any hesitation.

The grip is better than I have experienced with any other shoes. Most importantly, the Matryx upper is extremely durable and breathable. This was my 3rd pair of the Rebel 5s, my favorite primary runner in a long time( possibly ever) I ultimately exchanged the Sydney ’s for another color due to fit, maybe it was that specific pair but left shoe was very tight and both had less “ bounce ” than my other 3 pairs( including the black /red I replaced these with. Some materials are different on the Sydney model, the back is a leather like material, the fore sole is a clear material( possibly the same but definitely felt different) the laces are a plush terry cloth type material. Loved the look definitely great looking shoes, but did not quite meet the high performance standard of the other Rebel 5s. Quality over still a 5plus, but just felt very different. Thus a 4 rather than 5. On that note can ’ t recommend the Rebel 5s enough, fantastic running shoe.

I really like my new OluKai Tuahine sandals. The leather is high quality and the footbed is ergonomically molded to fit your foot perfectly. There are no painful areas you sometimes find with sandals where the strap rubs your foot funny. These sandals look really sharp and are comfortable for several hours, but they lack the cushioning to be comfortable for all day use, in my opinion. The footbed does not have much squish and is rather firm, so you 'll find your feet getting tired if worn walking about for 4+ hours. Still love these sandals. These are a pricey sandal, but I expect they will last a long time and be worth the investment.

Loved the previous versions of the Speedgoat, but the 6 felt “ off ” to me, and had durability issues so I switched over to a different brand. Luckily the Speedgoat 7 fixes many of my previous complaints and is a light, cushioned trail shoe that still provides a good ground feel. I have long, square shaped feet and the toe box felt slightly narrow; sizing up made the whole shoe too big, so I stuck with my traditional size and did a heel lock lace tie which helped keep the foot in place!
