There 's a reason you see so many really favorable reviews of this jacket. It checks all the boxes. Packable, super light, blocks the wind, repels mist or light rain and looks great. Pull it out of your kit at a windy summit or the top of a pitch. If you are slim and athletic, it fits true to your usual size. I have a paunchy `` dad bod '', so I had to go up one size for midriff room. You wo n't have to, though. I also have the lined hoody version of this garment, and like it equally for belaying or just spectating at the base of the crag.

I have been using multiple Kor products for a while and added this one to my closet recently. It has many uses but what I use it for is early morning hikes and rides. It adds just enough warmth over a base layer to reduce the bite of morning chill. The fabric is crazy stretchy and soft, and while I have n't been rough on this one, my insulated Kor Strata is a ski layer I have hammered all season with no issue. [ Marmot has a long history of making high quality outerwear. And this history continues with Mitre peak Jacket. I have been a fan of Marmot since my first jacket( the Alpine Light Jacket) which has been with me for most of my outdoor adventures into the backcountry and high altitude peak. I still remember when the 10, 000 meter parka was the one of the best pieces of equipment a mountaineer could have for protection at very cold, high altitudes. Not sure if they still make that. Back to the review of this jacket. I like the fact that it is does not come with a liner so this makes it more versatile for layer. Not sure of the durability for and longevity as the material is lighter and therefor repeated use with pack straps and harnesses may wear stress areas out as they are not reinforced. I have yet to find rainy enough day where the jacket has not performed. Hopefully this waterproofing with continue over the life time of the jacket. My biggest issue now with the latest products from all makers( Patagonia, The North Face, etc) is the delamination of the gortex material after a few years of use. Hopefully they have resolved this issue. Looking forward to many years of use with this jacket. Check in with me in a few years, I will let you know how this performed

Amazing. Such a great jacket; it ’s lightweight, breathable, good for active use, feels extremely well made, and has a great fit. At 6 ’ 1, 165lbs, the medium felt tailored. The octa lining is done fantastically. Pertex and octa are both some of the best durable, lightweight, and breathable materials and pair amazingly well. Construction is some of the best I ’ ve seen; very heavy duty dual use zipper that works like butter is amazing to see on such a lightweight garment. Dual chest pockets also clutch and super practical if wearing harnesses. Hand pockets have sync and keychain holders, and feel great to use in a more casual environment. Octa is like super synthetic cashmere, extremely well insulating. This jacket I think can work in any environment from below freezing to upper 60 ’s with proper layering. Simply one of the best jackets of all time imo.

I bought this for a backcountry skiing when it ’s a little wet or windy. I run very hot when touring so I found shells get too swampy. This has totally changed my layering system. I ’ m using it above my base layer and it stays on most of the day. I ’ ll even put it over my micro puffy on the way down on nice days and have been leaving my shell a lot of the time. The hood fits really well under a helmet to keep you warm when needed without being floppy or needing adjusting. It wicks and breaths really well but has enough wind and water resistance to avoid needing to stop and relayer unless it gets more than moderately wet. It weighs nothing and packs down to nothing you can literally put it in your leg pocket if you wanted to. The only downside is it does get smelly pretty fast so needs more washing than most of my other outdoor gear but so far it hasn ’ t lost a lot of water repellency using high quality outdoor detergents. Also great for running.

I picked up one of these in cactus green and right from the start it became a highly valued tool for my cool/cold back country outings. I am very impressed at how well it works to keep me comfortable during high aerobic activities( sustained uphill hiking, snowshoeing, backpacking...). It pulls moisture away as I sweat, keeps me warm up front, moves when I move and does not bind, and the color blends in well with my natural environment! Good winter and low temp jacket. Its longer and a tad baggy/active since its made for riding, so take your normal size and layer underneath for really cold days. It 's super comfortable and will keep you warm and dry. Hood is definitely a little too Raph, it 's made for riding with a helmet on, so its too big for casual wear but I knew that would be the case for any snowboard jacket so it does n't bother me.

Very light weight. Packing compressed it a lot and it took a couple days for it to expand out. My first time wearing it was in 30 degrees and it kept me very warm. I am 5' 6 '' and a large was a good fit for me, especially for arm length. I am a little concerned about longevity because of how light weight it is, but time will tell on that. Material and stitching are top notch and the jacket is very comfortable to wear. I HATE the feeling of gortex and this has more of silky feel inside and out, which is perfect. For a general use winter jacket this is perfect.

This is the most versatile x- country ski shell I own. I use it all the time, just add layers for conditions. Secure front kangaroo pocket, great stretch, breathable, and good dwr coating. I really like this jacket so far. I am 6' 2 '' around 205- 210 and I bought the XL. I think this fits well if not a bit long in the arms. The jacket sleeves do down a bit past my knuckles and the back extends down pretty far, but its the perfect length to still have coverage on my back if I am bent forward( biking) or if I reach above my head. I guess that 's what you want in a rain jacket, although if I lose a bit of weight I fear this jacket may become too baggy. The sleeves are velcro so they can be tightened in order to not droop down past your wrists.

I purchased this specifically for the Breck Epic Mountain Bike Race. This is a 6 day mountain bike race that takes you high into the alpine for extended periods of time around Breckenridge Colorado. I needed a jacket that was light and packed down small but offered good protection and breathability during aerobic riding. Unfortunately the Ghost Whisperer 2 runs very small, all of my Mountain Hardwear gear I ’ ve worn XL including my Absolute Zero summit suit but a XXL in this jacket ran VERY snug. Didn ’ t give me a lot of room to move around but it served its purpose.

This is my second Ghost Whisperer jacket. My first one is about six years old and is still in great shape, save for a couple places where the stitching is coming undone( I might talk to warranty about that...). I also have a StretchDown jacket, but I prefer the Ghost Whisperer, as it provides better protection against the wind. I can layer the Ghost Whisperer with a light merino wool sweater and be plenty warm in temperatures well below freezing. It 's also perfect for traveling since it 's so light and warm. I love that I can stuff it into its own pocket and use it as a pillow on the airplane. It was a no- brainer to take it with on a three week trip to Ireland and France in the early shoulder season. I would buy again in a heartbeat.

This coat worked perfectly for me, keeping me dry, warm, and relatively protected from the wind( with the hood), too. Only reason why I took off a start is because of the sizing has me in between a MD and L. I am 6 ’ 2 ” 185# and waist 32 ”. Medium is ideal fit, yet shoulders are slightly tight when I cross my arms. It ’s very warm and also gives you that psychological warmth boost of a fat, cozy puffer. The length is just right if you need a big outermost layer but don ’ t want a full parka length. I ca n't speak of cold winters just yet, but layering this with something under would be enough for me. The color is true to the picture. Excellent light vest for keeping it flashy when you need that extra warmth but do n't want to sacrifice arm mobility. Added to my wardrobe for winter mixed climbing after a few years of feeling like Ralphie from Christmas Story, and sweet mother of god the difference in comfort is a game changer. I stay just as warm, but do n't feel like I have a wad of underwear in my armpits. Great stuff. Sizing runs a bit large- I 'm 6' 3 '' 215lbs and XL is a wee bit baggy on me. Great for layering over thicker base layers, but a bit loose if you 're headed into the office to turn heads. On a side note, I tend to be pretty conservative with color selection as a white hetero dude- all blues and grays. When I received this, the first test was to run water over my sleeve in the sink. The water ran right off. Recently had a scrap with a rose branch and the tough shoulder material was unaffected. I was skeptical of the modern, thin, down jackets and vests. I ’ ve loved my old style, bulky down vests, and had full faith in the warmth of down. The Outdoor Research Helium Down Vest has become a daily part of my kit working at a ski area. The cut is definitely very athletic or snug, which does make it amazing for layering over. I ’ m normally somewhere between a large and extra large, the XL fits much closer to a large than a XL. While not the most flattering for fashion wear, but it ’s perfect for how warming layers are meant to be worn. Generally I ’ ll wear this vest over my base layer and under my other mid layer. Thought the day I might remove my other mid layer and use just this vest and my shell. As with all of my Outdoor Research gear I ’ m very impressed and happy with my purchase.

[ It 's pretty amazing the quality and comfort of this jacket for the price. It feels slightly less like a rain jacket and a touch towards the soft shell jacket feel. My only gripe is the pit zip zipper is cold on my arms if I wear a short sleeve shirt underneath, so I usually plan to wear long sleeves to prevent that. It 's a small complaint to have in order to have the pit zips. A zipper guard would probably increase the jacket price. I have 2 gore tex marmot jackets that I could wear but this one feels less like a thick, unbreakable plastic shell. This jacket is unique in that it has a breathable waterproof barrier similar to gore tex but it 's only rated for 20, 000 according to their documentation. I 've read that there has been issues with some of the previous years versions and delamination. With this new 3 layer design hopefully that issue has been fixed. Only time will tell. All in all it 's my go to rain jacket unless I 'm going to be in it all day long. It 's probably one of the most comfortable rain jackets I 've owned. I 'm a 32 waist with a 40r chest and opted to get the medium. The fit is more standard so if I wanted a really tight fit I maybe could have squeezed into a size small. The medium fits really well though and allows for me to wear a decent mid layer if needed. One of my favorite things is the hood. I do n't plan to wear this with a helmet so it 's great that the hood fits closer to my face than my other marmot jackets and it has adjustments to fine tune the fit. My least favorite thing is the placement of the pockets but as this is meant to be a more technical version of the standard eco jacket it 's understandable. I do n't need to stick my hands into my rain jacket pockets anyways.
