I purchased the 8' 6 '' 5wt version of this rod. It's great-- exactly what I was looking at a fantastic price. Why 4 stars? This is the first time a Reddington rod has arrived without a storage tube. Dicks charged me$ 20 less than a couple of online fly shops, but it would cost me$ 50 to buy the case separately. In all fairness, the fly shops include an image where this rod is shown with its case, and Dick's online did not have that image. Fortunately for me, I was buying a replacement for a similar rod and am able to use the old case.

In the past I had a few bad experiences with Daiwa fishing gear and as a result was skeptical of their products for years. Then a couple months ago I bought a couple Daiwa reels that impressed me for carp fishing and they were so sturdy and solid and casted so well that I use them for saltwater as well. While the reels were up to the challenge for surf fishing my Carp rods were not so I picked up 2 of these 11 Daiwa surf rods and am so glad I did. They feel so good and solid and cast beautifully. I have so much control over where my bait lands with these rods and have just enough sensitivity to see and feel even the small bites. I love this rod for a rod under a 100 bucks in the 70 dollar range. Its got great action been throwing med size crankbait. Great square bill rod good action have n't cought any monsters but lot's of 1 to 2 and half pound bass. Very acrute when throwing. I got some higher end set ups. But got this pared with a abu garcia black max reel with 10 pound florocarbon line. I got a 150 in reel rod and line and I pick it up as much as my 350 to 450 dollar set ups and will hang with them.
