Great reels. I have 2 and am shopping for another. Wo n't buy it here because they do not have the higher gear ratio in the left hand retrieve model. Only 4 stars because it comes with combat grips instead of Winn knobs. But, I have swapped the combat grips for Winn round knobs. I even contacted Lew's and was able to get black and gold end caps for the knobs. I have one on a TP1 Black and the other on a Custom Lite. The reels cast great, the retrieve is smooth, and they are strong. And, they look good too. Get one today.

I bought this for an upcoming fishing trip and the location changed from freshwater lake fishing to saltwater coastal fishing. Although it is not a dedicated saltwater reel the stainless steel bearings should hold up. I just need to be careful not to drop it too many times in the sand. We all know how brutal saltwater can be on fishing tackle it up a little heavy because I had 30lb braid on hand. This thing rocks! Pretty much any I wanted to and reeling in was super smooth and effortless. The drag was very easy to adjust and worked as described. The reel is super lightweight especially with the carbon fiber handle and will definitely help keeping from getting fatigued on long days of fishing.

bought this new reel last week and am impressed with the overall quality. The fit and finish are excellent. I spooled it up with 20 lb braid( 6 lb equivalent mono) and it spooled nicely. There is a section in the middle of the spool to keep the line from sliding which is a nice feature. I made some test casts with it and it cast very smoothly and very long. The reel itself is very smooth and quiet with the 10+1 ball bearings. The drag also seems very smooth even when tightened down substantially further than I 'll probably need. This will now be my go to spinning reel. Excellent quality.

I bought this for an upcoming trip but right after I submitted the order the destination was changed from freshwater to salt water! Anyone that has fished salt knows how brutal it can be on tackle gear! While this is not a dedicated salt reel it is sealed and has stainless gears so it should hold up just fine. however I might be a little careful when fishing from shore because the sand has a way of getting into everything, and this is such a great reel. I spooled it a little heavier than suggested but I only had 30lb braid on hand but this reel was super accurate with test casts, putting my rig right where I wanted to go, and even while paired with a shorter rod, I was able to cast further than with other combos I have. Reeling in was effortless and had super quick gears, plus this reel is light weight, I could see fishing all day with it without the normal fatigue from heavier, more sluggish reels. I ca n't wait to put this into action because this reel is `` PRO '' all the way

I just ordered this reel last week and wanted to provide a detailed review of my recent purchase. Just as another reviewer shared, it is advertised as black, but my reel was a vibrant red. I spooled it with a 10lb braid and cast it with soft plastics with a 1oz weight. I set the tension so the lure just barely dropped from the end of the rod, then set the drag to 5/10. There are micro- adjust settings between the typical settings, meaning 0. 5 increments are possible. Once casting, wow, this thing can really send the bait pretty far. I would estimate I was regularly getting 35- 40yard casts on a relatively lightweight lure. Plus I was able to drop it the lure exactly where I wanted it to go. The reel is pretty typical size in the hand when palming. I would say its not the biggest or smallest, but it was comfortable to use. There is another switch on the back of the reel that changes the reel function to allow for flipping and pitching. I 've never seen this before on a reel and typically just used my thumb on the spool. When this is activated, you press the button holding it during the flip and let- go when you want the line to stop advancing. It took a few tries to get used to, but is still very intuitive to use. If you forget to switch it back when going back to do a normal long cast, it can be a surprise. However, I think it is a nice feature. I was able to catch some bass as a local pond with it and the drag was very smooth. There are a lot of bearings on this reel, box says 11+1, and it feels like it. I have multiple bait- casters, including some other higher end models, and this MegaJaws Elite reel fits right along side the others.

I bought this Okuma Startus 7 mainly for crabbing, and let me tell you, it's been a champ! Hauling up those heavy crab snares full of feisty Dungeness can really put a strain on your gear, but this reel has handled it like a pro. This reel is n't just a one- trick pony. I 've also taken it surf fishing a few times, casting out heavy bait rigs for halibut. The Startus 7 casts smoothly and far, which is essential when you 're trying to reach those deeper waters where the halibut hang out. It's held up well to the saltwater conditions too, showing no signs of corrosion. Honestly, for the price, I could n't be happier with this reel. It's a great all- around workhorse for anyone who needs a reliable saltwater reel without breaking the bank. It might not have all the fancy features of those high- end reels, but it gets the job done and then some. Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. I caught a fish on my second cast and anticipate catching many more in the future.

I purchased this reel primarily for the size. I like a big reel for the grip and significant ease in retrieval when I have a real angry 25- 30 lb salmon fighting me. Summation, I bank fish 75% of the time. Overall, a nice, smooth, and great casting reel. I am going to give this a shot on steelhead soon. Ya it's like towing a 2 door Nissan car using a Semi truck. Due to its size it takes just a pinch of time to dial the reel in to cast& retreive. Compared to my Okuma Ceymar C65 the Penn is just a bit better in my very large hands. I am going to buy the Penn Penn Battle III BTL II 8000 in a week. Any suggestions are welcome.

Good, lightweight and strong reel in the 3000 to 4000 size. The slow oscillation level line feature lays braided line on the spool very evenly and makes it great for long casting. Pair with a medium to moderate 6' 8 '' to 7' 6 '' inshore rod with micro- guides and you have a lightweight, sensitive, long casting setup! I have a 3000 size on a custom 7' 2 '' Rod Geek carbon blank( St Croix) with MicroWave guides. The price is steep for this reel but Penn stands behind their gear and with proper care, will last a lifetime. If it were at a better price for what's under the hood, I 'd rate it 5 of 5 stars

We have a couple of these on hand on Fenwick Eagles with 20# braid. Good fluke and sea bass reel. Just make sure you wash it down, not saltwater sealed that well.

I ran across one a few weeks back. I have to say it is a very smooth reel! These Abu Sweden made models are solid! Smoother cast then anything I have used before. Last year I cheaped out and regretted it. Hope to catch some big fish this year! Definitely worth the price!

So far so good for a first time baitcaster user. Have had couple of nest when I forgot to put my thumb on the line but after adjusting brake at every sinker change and holding thumb on the line when casting and a few fishing trips everything has been good.
