I 've been fishing fresh and salt water with the Johnson's Minnow spoon for over 60 years and find them perfect for fishing the grassy flats, weeds and pads for nearly all fish. I always hook on a plastic grub or pork rind strip as I believe that enhances the effectiveness. Some times I 'll cast onto a pad and wiggle it off, or let it settle on the bottom, then retrieve with a small jerk similar to fishing a plastic worm. It casts easily so 1/4 oz. is good for most spinning outfits, while 1/2 oz. works best with a casting rod. For me, silver has been the best all around, but I 'm trying out colors too, especially for salt water. If I had to fish just one spoon this would be it because of it's versatility.

I bought this bait at my local dicks sporting goods store last week. I fish on Cayuga lake which is located in the finger lakes in Upstate New York. I purchased some Berkley grub minnows for fishing off of a dock near a marina and off of the shore near a small bank. I had lots of success in landing some fish including some blue gill, pumpkin seed, rock bass, and large mouth bass. Do n't let me forget to mention that I caught A LOT of gobies. These things have huge mouths and love the scented bait. You can definitely catch some 2 or 3 lb largemouth on these bait if you are fishing in the right area. I found that using a size 4 jawbone hook worked well with a Carolina rig for the fish I was after. I added a 1/8 oz weight about 5 inches from the hook. I received most bites and catches on sunny days with calm water in about 20- 40 feet of water. To retrieve the bait cast it out very far, then let it sink to the bottom. Then just slowly reel on the line every 5 seconds then let it sink then repeat. These baits tear away after you snag them or hook them multiple times. They also lose scent after a while so sometimes if it is reusable I wash it off then throw it back in the bag to soak in the juice.

Winter fishing is tough around here with the frequent rain and fast moving high water on the Hiwassee River. I had some free time and wanted to try for some small mouth. This lure is great. I caught something almost as soon as I tossed it in. However, it's too good for what I needed it for. We were doing catch and release and this is not good for that. The three hooks made it tough to get out in time. Luckily I was able to and the little fella was able to swim away, but I stopped using it after that. Started using fake worms and did n't catch anything else. It's very realistic looking. I 'm going to try to replace the three hooks with a single or just try to remove two of the three.

This is another one of my go- to lures. I find it to be very versatile, I use it as a wake bait or twitch and rise presentation; or just straight crank in. Having ran Millwood Lake Guide Service for over 22 years in sw Arkansas, I can tell you dont hit the lake without a plano box full of these in various colors for varying water conditions. Because our lake can change color in a matter of hours with high wind and thunderstorms, I prefer the 3/4 oz Rat- L- Trap in 3- 4 basic patterns. Silverado, aka, Millwood Magic, Red Shad, Toledo Gold, and the newer Zombie patterns are hands down, best there is. I always have 3 rods rigged up with 3/4 or 1/2 oz sizes, and in muddy conditions go up to the 1 oz size for increased racket and chatter. This is an excellent addition to any tackle box. Works great trolled, cast, and is also a great top water for bass. Cast it out onto the glass smooth morning/evening water, let it sit a minute, give it a couple twitches and........... BAM, fish on! Looks fantastic, and it works.
