I read conflicting reviews on how waterproof it is. I plan to use for long hime in Portugal later this month. If I encounter torrential downpours, I will also have a waterproof hood to wear over top. I think the color I purchased is fine for what I need.

I go on birdwatching trips, and on a bird- watching Safari, we were advised to be sure the hat we wore would n't obstruct the view of others in the vehicle, so I chose this hat. It was perfect for the trip, and it turned out to provide outstanding protection from the sun in general. As a bonus, it was a bug deterrent! I 've worn the hat so often that it is starting to wear out, so I 've just ordered another one.

I have three of these hats. I keep one in the car and one in my backpack so I always have it on hand. I am a redhead and these do the best job of protecting my neck, scalp, and face of any hat I have owned. I also love the folding brim so it can go in a pocket. It stays on well in windy conditions if you snap it under your chin. I wish it came in more colors. Fun ones. I would love orange or teal or fuchsia.

I bought the blue bucket hat for a Florida kayaking trip and it was great! The cord that holds it on was totally necessary because we had wind gusts and other people's hats were blowing off. I did let my granddaughter borrow mine for awhile.

[ This is a really nice hat. Bright retro colors and retro style. Very comfortable, and does a good job keeping the sun off my head. It might have been nice if the strings were removable, in case you did n't want to wear them all the time, but I can just tuck them up inside the hat. With the cinch cord on the back, it stays on your head pretty well even without using the strings below your chin.

[ I do n't like a lot of weight on my head because I suffer from chronic migraines. I love how much sun protection this hat offers for so little weight. I also love the structure of the hat. I had another brand hat that was lightweight, but it was very floppy. It just did n't hold any kind of shape. I have had other hats with nice structure, but it was a lot of weight on my head. This is a great combination of structure in a lightweight package.

I bought this hat well over a year ago and it is great. I even have another one in olive. It is NOT made in China, but by our next door neighbor Canada! Even though the brass rivets that hold the straps in place tarnished due to sweat due to constant use, Tilley gladly replaced them at no charge and told me how to clean the brass.
