I actually loved the design for a hiking boots they looks stylish and were pretty comfortable. Now I will say you will need to break them in around the top they are firm materials that hurt a bit if you have n't broke them in. They have a nice design and my feet did n't hurt after using them. They have great soles and kinda curved so walking heal to toe is n't still and feels good when walking.

I have a hiking/trekking shoe problem( name the brand, I might have 2 pair), and if I had to pick only ONE, to wear every day.. doing every thing.. for eternity... it's got to be this one. Sizing: I 'm an 11. 82, medium. I have the greys size 12 here. Great fit, there 'd be extra room if needed. Toe box remains roomy due to lacing grid, but it's welcomed. Nothing thicker socks/insoles ca n't fix of course if it pleases you. Closest thing to a barefoot shoe that I 've put on and liked. They call this a barefoot and I wo n't put up a fight, but they seem pretty tall( FOR a bf shoe). In any case, it's close, and I do love the grounded feel, but only because the tread is so supportive. Ya know how most shoes are either very technical, or, `` go straight! '' etc etc? These, you 're just kind of, surfing B) What's the Catch?... 1) I 'm aware of some longevity concerns w/ tread, but I 'd imagine the give- or- take goes to the shoe FTW- anything reasonable would be worth it b/c the shoe is that great. 2) I 'd be lying if I was n't a bit concerned about the construction of the eyelets- they give the impression that too many tough yanks will make them angry. Got these in low top. These are great! Coming off a pair of Moab 2 lows for hiking I feel these are a definite upgrade in looks and comfort. I think Merrell hit the nail on the head with the styling, I actually am tempted just to wear these as a daily without hiking in them, I do n't want to get them dirty! They look fantastic with jeans. Also note that these leather ones are more comfortable than the Speed 2 Goretex version... I tried on that pair and the cut outs for the ankle were higher and rubbed my ankle. There is no rubbing on these, however they are slightly heavier than the Speed 2 goretex. I imagine because this uses leather.

Great shoes. No break in period. I took them to Scotland for my honeymoon. Hiked up Ben Nevis when it was pouring rain, feet stayed warm and dry. My only recommendation is to buy more than one pair to make sure they do n't have any weird crease points or hot spots. I had to get 3 pairs in order to find one pair that did n't have hot spots on my pinky toe( weird creasing on the toes). All in all, I would recommend these shoes.

I bought my second pair of these approximately a month ago. My last pair I used to backpack the Himalayas twice, Colorado, North Carolina and North Georgia. I also used them as my go to hunting boot as well. They 're heavy duty and it taken care of will last for years and years. I brought the leather back to life on mine using mink oil several times. They look good with a pair of jeans as well and make a great statement when worn in. I hated to let my other pair go and buy another pair but they served me well for over a decade. Very flexible shoes. I took them to the Galapagos Islands, and they held out very well on hikes, on boats and are attractive enough to wear out to dinner. I 've been researching hiking boots for several months and Asolo's products kept coming up over and over as the premier choice among experienced hikers. I was impressed by the loyalty of Asolo customers, and liked the look and reported performance of the Asolo Fugitive GTX Boot. Initially, I purchased the same size as my other boots, a 9 1/2. Upon the first test fit, I knew they were too small and returned the pair for a half size larger. The size 10 fit perfectly, but I will caution that these boots run a bit narrow( I do not have particularly large feet). Asolo thoughtfully offers `` wide '' sizes as well. I christened my new pair of Fugitives by taking a 33 mile trek on the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina in early March. The trail had a good bit of snow, ice and mud. Temperatures during the three day trip ranged from 17 to 64 degrees( F), and included periods of rain and snow. The boots performed beautifully in terms of thermal and waterproof qualities. Also, these boots are very easy to put on, which is a plus when going for that 1am potty run in the cold. My only criticism of the design is that the insole is made of an extremely hard material. By day three, the balls of my feet were hurting pretty badly, and definitely detracted from the enjoyment of my trip. Adding an extra layer of socks helped marginally. I 've never experienced this problem before, so, upon arriving back home, I compared the insole to that in my older boots. Big difference; my older( HiTec) boots( which are falling apart after 15 years) have a much softer insole. I love the Asolo Fugitive GTX Boot, but will definitely add a gel insole prior to my next trip. These are, by far, the nicest( and most expensive) hiking boots I 've ever owned, and would definitely recommend them to others, but with the cautions regarding the sizing and insole material. I hope to add a couple thousand comfortable miles to these boots in the years to come.

Columbia is by far my favorite brand of hiking boots/shoes because they always just fit me really well, and this boot is no exception. The Newton Wander is a good looking and comfortable hiking boot. I do n't feel like it needed any break in period, and I wore mine as my daily drivers until the arches were shot. I always left them tied, but could get them on and off quickly by looping the laces on and off of the top couple sets of hooks. Even after they were worn out and the soles were worn down, I kept them around and wore them a couple more times to do some landscaping work and rebuild a retaining wall in my back yard. They can really take a beating!

[ I ’ m in the USCG and spend about 3/4 of my day at a desk. My previous pair of work boots was the Nike sfb. These perform better in my opinion. Took less than a week for them to feel broken in. I recommend true to size.

I chose these because they were Futurelight and I 've been impressed with that material in my jacket I bought last year. So far I 've been impressed with the shoe. The fit was excellent at 11. 5 and they are so light and comfortable I 've been using them more and more often.
