After much research and checking out many types of hats, my son purchased the same( but older version) 15+ years ago to wear hike on a High Adventure Scout Outing to Philmount. It was waterproof with an SPF of 50 and very light. Snaps on the side came in handy as well as the adjustable size. Now- years later, when I reached out to the company- OR- and asked them about the SPF( I could n't remember that!) because I now have to protect my face from all sun. Love the ponytail opening and adjustable tightness, but I do n't use the hanging drawcord. I probably should, because this catches in the wind and blows off a little more than regular baseball caps if it's not adjusted tight. My friends assure me it does n't even look quite as stupid as I was worried it would, but the goal is sun coverage, and for that it works great.

[ I bought this to work outside on hot days, and it works well for that. I have n't tried it on a super hot day yet, but suspect it could use a bit more breathability for those conditions. It provides full coverage from the sun and still gives you pretty good vision. I did n't buy it for looks, but I think it looks cool in kind of a dorky way. The sizing is a bit big, I 'm a 7 1/2 hat size and got a large, and have to cinch the strap down pretty much to get it to fit tight, which wrinkles it up a bit, but I tried a medium and it just was n't quite big enough. It is nice to have the adjustability, which you do with an easy pull strap. The colors are great and the price is fair.
