Glad ua is finally putting out good looking, quality shoes again. Trail shoes are the hottest new thing right now and these are perfect from functionality to stylish design. I recently got my 1st pair base off my own research prior to ordered. For the North American market the UG4 is a quantum leap forward from the previously released UG2. Relieve Sphere and optiFOAM specifically are new components that take an already established UG line up a full level to being a serious competitor. Visually UG4 looks overconstructed, there is a lot going on, but it is remarkably lighter in hand and underfoot than I anticipated. Weighing in at 10oz UG4 hits all of the desirables: durability, stability, responsive, confidence- inspiring, and balanced. This shoe checks all the boxes and passes the all- seasons checklist for running in the Cascades. Another homerun from Salomon!

Miles, miles, miles. These shoes are big fans of miles. With a comfortable stride and cushion, the run feel is great, encouraging you to keep moving. Significant but not overly aggressive tread makes the shoe perfect for all- rounding on any terrain. Only feeling out classed when you make it onto the most technical trails.

I ’ ve had these shoes for several months now and I ’ ve put many miles on them already. These are the best running shoes I have ran in in several years. I struggled for a long time trying to find a shoe with a high heel to toe drop, good tread, and enough cushion to prevent knee pain no matter what type of surface I was running on. The heel to toe drop on this shoe is perfect, the cushion is excellent, and the tread is amazing. I wear these running on trails, roads, and to work. I even wear them on light hikes. They are the all around prefect shoe. Nike please don ’ t change anything but the color options in the future.

Bought these for training with the anticipation of ordering a new pair before my ultramarathons this summer. After 300 miles in them I ’ m contemplating if I even need to buy new ones or just wear these. Although they are definitely broke in I ’ m still not having any foot issues and they still have a solid comfy sole on them after all those miles. Highly recommend

The shoe has much improved features. I ’ ve had each iteration and am glad they tossed vibram on it. Kudos to Altra for listening, these shoes are super durable. Only thing that could make this slightly better is a layer of vibram like the lone peak+ fully covering, and longer laces. All that said, they ’ re great, just got a second pair. I love these as a one quiver trail shoe.

So I started by ordering my normal Altra size: 11. This was perfect length wise until I did an abrupt stop in the store. My foot slid all the way forward and jammed my big toe. The width was too small. Then I tried the 11. 5 and neither issue existed. Now that I have the size dialed in, it is all good. I normally wear stability shoes in 11 wide( Paradigm 8 and Guide 19) for the road, and the Speedgoat 7 in 11. 5 wide in trail shoes. These just have a different kind of ride and fit to them compared to these other shoes, and it is very refreshing. In the 11. 5 size, it is the normal wide toe box Altra fit that feels closer to a zero drop with a softer landing. I live in Reno, NV, and for my typical weather, the grip has been excellent. No hot spots or blisters, and the heel locks down tight with runner loops. The laces are just long enough to relieve a little pressure on the top of the foot if I don ’ t heel locks, which is nice. The shoe breathes moderately. Some reviews I ’ ve read said the tongue was wonky. That hasn ’ t been my experience. It is definitely possible to get it to sit wrong, but you really need to work at it to do it. I will admit, however, it is a comfort focused tongue, so if that isn ’ t your thing, then……….. I have two complaints about the shoe so far, and both are fairly small. The laces could use another couple inches for a heel lock, and they need to change the profile of the laces. I can ’ t get these laces to stay tied if I really get after it. I replaced mine with slightly longer oval laces, and that fixed my complaint. My other complaint is about the lug depth and pattern. Getting to 5mil lugs and the pattern of the lone peak 9+ would make this shoe absolutely unstoppable. They are two very different grip experiences despite both being Vibram. Overall, these have been a great buy for me and my use case. I am not breaking land speed records, and I am not doing Ultras, but my 4- 6 mile adventures over plains, single track, rocks, light mud, steep climbs/descents, and minor pavement has been enjoyable. For context, I am 5 ’ 9 ”, 224 lbs, moderate fitness( Hyrox capable), and mid thirties with no major joint problems.

Initial, early review after 50 miles of use, so reserving one star ATM. Got these to replace my Olympus 5 that I have worn through the heel tabs in 200 miles of use. Primarily used for hiking and short jogs. The 3+ is super comfortable straight out of the box and has a more supportive midsole than the O5. I like the rocker and the sole has excellent traction. Hopefully it holds up a bit better than the last couple of Altras I ’ ve purchased.

Love these shoes! Have been a big fan of the Ultra Glide series and these do not dissapoint. Excellent grip, like a marshmellow underfoot. A great shoe that can do it all. Long distance, daily training, can even handle a bit of technical. If you want one shoe that can do it all this is it.

I ’ ve been running long trail miles in these shoes and I absolutely love them. From the very first run, the comfort stood out — the cushioning feels plush underfoot without being overly soft or unstable, which makes these great for long days out on the trail. They don ’ t feel bulky or heavy. The fit feels true to size and secure, and the outsole handles varied terrain with confidence thanks to the Contagrip lugs — I ’ ve been able to run everything from smooth dirt roads to rocky singletrack without any major slip- ups. Overall, these have become my go- to shoe for long trail runs. I ’ d definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a cushioned trail shoe that can go the distance.

I just ran a 50km race with 5, 000 feet of elevation gain and loss wearing these shoes. I was nervous that the toe box height would be too short, but that didn ’ t end up being an issue at all. I didn ’ t get a single blister after getting them from other trail shoes. The front toe shield definitely saved my big toe more than once after slamming into some rocks. I ’ d recommend them for lighter mud and snow conditions, but overall they were very comfortable and fast. They fit true to size to my vaporflys. Very satisfied and an eye catching piece.

I recently bought this pair of Olympuses to replace the Olympus 275s I had been wearing, and overall they work pretty well, with a couple of minor issues. The padding is excellent without making you feel like you 're trying to run on platforms. The classic wide toe box/zero drop works great for my wide, flat feet. The heel cushion is... potentially problematic. I 'd seen complaints about the cushion that wraps just above the heel and how it was rubbing some people raw, and on my first outing I could feel my heels rubbing against the cushion, especially on my left foot, which is slightly shorter than my right. I was able to fix this by using the extra pair of eyelets to make a `` heel lock '' or `` runner's loop, '' but that then created a second problem-- the laces are too short. I need to use double knots to keep my laces from coming undone, but there's so little lace left after making a runner's loop that getting a double knot is a challenge. Other than the issue of getting my shoes tied properly, however, the Olympuses fit well, feel comfortable, and give me a good combination of cushion and stability. They are also easier to slide my foot into than the 275s, where the collar that keeps out debris can get shoved inside the shoe.

The fit of this shoe is true to size, which I really appreciate. As a larger guy, I typically wear through inserts quickly, and by the end of the day, my feet often ache. The combination of the high- quality inserts and cushioned sole provides a noticeable level of comfort that lasts all day. Highly recommend!

I just ordered my second pair of the Rubatos to replace the ones I ordered a year ago. I walk about 1- 4 miles a day and have worn these on about 66% of those walks. They provide plenty of cushioning and support. I can wear these for long periods of time without my lower back and feet hurting. Suggestions to make this the perfect shoe: a little bit better ventilation, a little more width in the toe box and maybe add 1mm to the lugs. The lack of availability in colors and sizes makes me think these are or will be discontinued:>{ I wish Merrell would make more zero drop shoes and sandals.

I am an avid trail hiker and runner. I have completed the AT and the PCT and the South Island of the Te Araroa. The fit, comfort and durability of the Wildhorse shoe are extremely good and the weight is as light as I would want it to be for 30 mile days. A couple suggested improvements would be: 1: a lace band in the lace channel so laces can be tucked, 2) a gaiter clip at the front of tongue to attach a gaiter clip, and 3) a small channel in the middle of the sole for a gaiter bottom strap.

Very pleasantly surprised with this shoe. Usually I wear the Zegama and Ultrafly, so thought this shoe would be a step down. Don ’ t normally write reviews and had to reset my password to post this These are a joy to run in. I initially bought these in the stylish yellow for travel sneakers, but once I got home started using them in my runs and it ’s a stunning pleasure to have these in feet especially for long runs Great bounce, arch support, solid but not heavy with great traction. Only draw backs are price( lil steep imo), while the traction is great, durability will be a question wish they went with a better rubber. Also love the textured laces

Merrell has nailed the road to trail transition with this shoe. Comfy on road, but grippy when needed. I forgot the shoe served the other purpose when running in it. Great arch support as well. Runs a tiny bit big.

We received these shoes for an ultramarathon relay that spanned the entire state of New York, covering road, gravel, dirt, and everything in between. They held up incredibly well. Grippy, stable, and durable, they carried us through the race, and helped us secure a 3rd place finish! I ’ d recommend these for anyone looking for a reliable everyday shoe with strong traction and a stable ride. While they lean more toward stability than speed, they still had no problem helping us land on the podium. Photos 1, 2, 3 by Austin Nuchols/ Photos 4 by Horacio Urias

One of the best shoes by Merrill I have 15 pr of Merrell for hiking in every season. These stand up to 7 mile hikes and are great on uneven terrain. Nice and gripy

Very comfortable and good traction on uneven, dirt and gravel surfaces. I would not use them for hiking the AT( which I hike often) lugs aren ’ t deep enough and you ’ d need ankle support for that but great and supportive for light trail runs and gentle inclines.

I bought these for my 20 year old son as a gift& they are some of the best- looking Brooks we 've owned. The Ghost is my favorite shoe, so I was excited to check out the Ghost Trail. I will say that the trail tread is not as aggressive as the Brooks Cascadia, so not sure these would be great on technical trails, but probably fine for gravel/smoother trails. I 'm not sure if we got an off- pair or these run big, but my son is always an 11. 5 in Brooks& the 11. 5 was too big for him. We exchanged for an 11& the fit was great.

[ This is overall a really solid shoe. I think it works for trail running or even general cross training. I 've got a separate pair of Brooks GTS Adrenalines that I use strictly for the track or( very clean) roads, but I would n't be caught dead trail running or cross- training for fear of rolling an ankle with their squishy bases. These Ghost Trails though? They feel really solid and stable on all sorts of terrain, and especially as we move to winter where I live and my training shifts indoors to a gym, I could see myself wearing these for a full workout( instead of switching shoes between the weights and the treadmill). I like the off- whiteish/tan as the main color... will be easier to keep looking somewhat clean. But I LOVE the little loop on the heel. It makes pulling them on so much easier without squishing the tongue down either, even if they are already low- tops. It's just little details like that which keep me coming back to Brooks.
5
Gardsy17
[ Out of the box, the shoes feel good and high quality. There are a couple of details like the rope pull hook on the back that making them look outdoorsy, which I like in a trail running shoe. They tighten really nicely as I lace them up, very secure on the whole foot. My feet are between size 10. 5 and 11. And the size 11 ’s in these were true to size. I run in a combination of road and grass/trail settings on my morning run. And also do trail running on compacted gravel. I love these shoes on the compacted gravel. I ca feel the grip when accelerating and didn ’ t have any slip even when running up steep hills. Often shoes with thick soles feel a bit wobbly to me when running on roots, etc. however I didn ’ t notice any instability in these which is great. My favourite part is the heel, it ’s very rigid and sturdy which makes putting them on and off easy and doable without my hands which is great when I ’ m also wrangling my dogs on the way out the door.

I could n't be happier with my purchase of the Altra Experience Wild 3 trail running shoes. They were comfortable right out of the box with no break- in period, and they 've quickly become my go- to shoes for trail running. I 've used them on a variety of terrain, including rocky, uneven trails, dirt, gravel, and even wet bedrock. The traction has been outstanding, giving me confidence on slippery surfaces and technical sections where footing really matters. The shoes feel stable without sacrificing comfort, and they handled every type of trail I 've thrown at them with ease. If you 're looking for a trail running shoe that's incredibly comfortable, grips well in challenging conditions, and inspires confidence on rugged terrain, I highly recommend the Altra Experience Wild 3. I 'm extremely happy with my purchase and would absolutely buy them again.

I ’ ve been searching for a solid golfing shoe with a genuine wide toe box, and it turns out this trail hiking shoe absolutely nails it. The Fit: The signature wide toe box is a game- changer on the course, letting my toes splay naturally and engage fully during my swing. The Feel: The 4mm drop feels incredibly stable and provides a great, natural stance. Performance: Even though it ’s designed for the trails, the grip is fantastic on turf and provides excellent traction through every turn. I liked these so much that I immediately ordered a second pair in a different color. My only wish? I really hope they release a fully waterproof version of this model soon — it would make it the ultimate winter golf option. Highly recommended if you want trail- tested comfort and stability on the golf course.

I am an avid trail runner, all seasons.. I no longer do ultras but still go out for 15- 20 mile trail runs on rooty, rocky, wet, muddy, steep trails in NH. With the Vibram lugs this has become my go to running shoe. I have an earlier iteration of the Wild without the Vibram and had mentioned in an earlier review that this shoe would be perfect with the burly- er sole, and VOILA, here it is! Perfect 4mm drop for me, and improved toe reinforcements. Thank you Altra for making a real deal trail running shoe for those who prefer a shoe that is n't totally zero drop! Love the black/grey combo... I 'd love to see less `` girly '' light colors and more grrrr color combos.

[ The Nike ACG Zegama were an exciting pair of sneakers to test. I am longtime fan of the ACG collection, mainly for it's forward and functional design. These trail sneakers embody both of those fully. I wore these on the trail routes near my home and they full adapted to the uneven and sometimes slippery terrain. I 've worn them on dry runs and just after rainfall, and the footprint/sole of this sneaker felt like it grasped the earth well in both circumstances. The elastic ankle detail hugged my foot just enough for added stabilization. I could really feel the vibram sole and full cushioning which I prefer when trail running. I appreciated the non slip grip the laces had on the upper, they felt secure the duration of each run. But my main takeaway was the width of the sole at the ball of the foot. It really felt different compared to other sneakers I run on trail with. This felt like when my foot stuck the ground, it was fully connecting, giving me more confidence and security with each step. The shoe was comfortable and responsive all around.

[ This shoe made it feel like I was walking on air. I recommend this shoe for anyone that spend a lot of time outside. I love the thickness of the sole on the shoe. I spend alot of time outside because plays sport and I find myself complaining about the lack of a good tennis shoe. I spent a couple of hours in this shoe and had no complaints. I love the simple black and white color tone of this shoe. I can wear this shoe with different colors.

[ The fit was true to size and surprisingly comfortable for my wide feet. I usually struggle finding trail shoes that feel supportive without being too tight, but these fit really well right out of the box. I also loved the overall design because it feels versatile enough for different outdoor activities. The bottom soles have a lot of grip, which made them great for trail hiking, uphill runs, and even climbing over rocky terrain. The cloth- like toe cover almost made it feel like I was running barefoot, but with enough protection and support. The fabric around the feet is soft, lightweight, and breathable. Compared to most hiking shoes, the traction on the bottom feels much lighter, which made it easier to pick up speed and do short runs comfortably. One of my favorite features was the ankle portion because it fits almost like a sock and feels secure without rubbing. What I liked most was how easy it felt to move in them. I was able to comfortably pick up my feet and transition into short uphill runs without feeling weighed down like traditional hiking shoes. Honestly, I wouldn ’ t change anything about the shoe. Even though it ’s not labeled as a wide shoe, it still worked well for my feet and provided solid arch support. My only recommendation would be to wear high socks and avoid wearing them barefoot. I made the mistake of doing a 2- mile uphill run without socks and ended up with blisters, so good socks definitely make a difference.

[ The ACG Zegama shoes do exactly what they say. Comfortable and stable for trail running. The wide toe box is excellent for maintaining stability on rough terrain. The mesh upper breathes really well. I haven ’ t tried it out in wet conditions/creeks but it feels like it would dry quickly. The ZoomX foam is my absolute favorite across Nike shoe lines. The ankle cuff prevents pebbles and dirt from causing irritation which is a great detail. The fit is true to size and their stylish/rugged appearance is a plus.

[ As my first experience with a trail shoe, I was pleasantly surprised by how supportive but light these are. In a pinch I think these could work on the road too. nightrunner
[ For some context, I am a male in my mid 20s and I run about 60 miles a week. I am currently training for a 25km race and I primarily used the Zegama 2s for my easy and steady runs. I was quite impressed with the Zegama 2. One notable enhancement is the incorporation of Vibram technology into the outsole, providing excellent grip and stability, particularly on trails. This feature proved invaluable during my off- road sessions. When running, this allowed the ride of the shoe to be grippy and secure. In particular, when on the trails, this was quite handy! However, the Zoom X foam is the highlight of this shoe. Not only is the foam soft and squishy, but it is also offers a high energy return. I found the foam to be most useful on my easy runs. After running a hard session, this shoe works well for easy days on the trails. The high cushioning keeps the muscles fresh. As someone who has ran in many of Nike ’s shoes, I will say that this iteration of Zoom X is not as squishy as the initial generation. It is a firmer version. For comparison, it is similar to the feel of the invincible 3. In terms of fit, the shoe fit true to size. I normally wear a 9. 5 and it fit me perfectly. I appreciate how the upper extends higher than a normal shoe- this helps to prevent dirt and rocks from entering the shoe. However, given its trail- focused design, I wished for a waterproof upper to tackle muddy terrains while keeping my socks dry. Often times, the trails are quite muddy, and by having a waterproof upper, this would serve the shoe well. Nonetheless, the fabric of the upper is comfortable and I did not have any issues with blisters or rubbing. As can be seen by my pictures, I have the shoe in the black and white colorway. The design works well as it hides dirt. Although I already have almost 30 miles on the shoes, they still look brand new! As someone who works nights, I enjoy the little details of the shoe: it says “ all day ” and “ all night ” on each respective tongue. This made me chuckle when I first saw it. In terms of bottom line, I really enjoyed this shoe. The updated outsole works well and the Zoom X cushion is phenomenal. The ride is great and responsive. I imagine I will be reaching for this shoe for all my trail runs, and even for some easy and steady days on the sidewalk. As for potential improvements, waterproofing the upper would undoubtedly elevate this shoe's performance, especially in muddy conditions. If it was waterproof, this shoe would truly be at the top of the trail shoe category. Further, while I love the Zoom X, I do wish it was a softer version of the cushioning. I am not sure what chemical changes have occurred since its debut years ago, but it continues to get firmer with each update. However, some many appreciate this change.

BigCity
[ As an avid trail runner constantly seeking the perfect blend of performance, comfort, and durability, I was thrilled to get my hands( or should I say, feet) on the Nike ZoomX Zegama Trail 2. And let me tell you, this shoe did not disappoint; in fact, it exceeded all my expectations. Firstly, let's talk about comfort. The ZoomX midsole cushioning is a game- changer. It's incredibly responsive, providing a plush feel underfoot while still maintaining a lightweight design. Whether I 'm navigating rocky terrain or cruising through muddy paths, the ZoomX foam absorbs impact exceptionally well, sparing my joints from unnecessary stress and fatigue. But comfort alone is n't enough for serious trail runners. We need traction that can handle a variety of surfaces and conditions. The Zegama Trail 2 delivers on this front with its aggressive outsole featuring multidirectional lugs. I felt confident tackling steep ascents and descents, knowing that the shoe's grip would keep me stable and sure- footed every step of the way. Durability is another key factor, especially when you 're putting in serious mileage on rugged trails. Nike has spared no expense in crafting a shoe that can withstand the toughest of terrains. The reinforced upper provides ample protection against abrasions and debris, while strategic overlays enhance the shoe's overall structural integrity. After numerous runs, my Zegama Trail 2 still looks and feels as good as new, a testament to its robust construction. Beyond its technical prowess, the Zegama Trail 2 also scores high marks in terms of aesthetics. The sleek design, coupled with bold colorways, ensures that you 'll stand out on the trails for all the right reasons. Plus, the attention to detail, from the reflective elements for added visibility to the padded collar for enhanced ankle support, further showcases Nike's commitment to both style and functionality. In conclusion, the Nike ZoomX Zegama Trail 2 is a top- tier trail running shoe that ticks all the boxes for discerning runners. Whether you 're a seasoned veteran seeking your next PR or a weekend warrior looking to elevate your outdoor adventures, this shoe is a must- have addition to your gear arsenal. With its unbeatable combination of comfort, traction, and durability, the Zegama Trail 2 empowers you to push your limits and conquer any trail with confidence.

I used my new pair for a trip to Italy as I planned to do a lot of walking. They were amazing! I walked a ton in both cities and my feet never hurt once. I am sold 100% on this pair. Getting another color once I ’ m back home!

I received them quickly and very well packaged. These shoes are solid! Great, great support and your foot is in heaven. It does hug your foot closely all the way around. If you like it more roomy the you should up a size. C width would be ideal.

I 'm very happy with purchasing the Nike Juniper Trail 3's. I had a pair of the Nike Juniper Trail 2 Gore- Tex. I really like the Nike Juniper Trail line for walking and going on trails.

This is one of my must have, go to, all around sneakers! They can handle the rain or the gym and look sweet with shorts, jeans or joggers! I have them in 3 different colorways to make sure they adapt to any fit! The all terrain sole grip to anything and turned up heel keep the back of the sole from getting grimy from a dirty car floor mat🤫
When selecting durable trail running shoes, consider features such as a robust outsole for traction, a reinforced upper for protection against debris, and a cushioned midsole for comfort over long distances. Additionally, look for water-resistant materials if you plan to run in wet conditions, as well as breathability to keep your feet cool.
To find the right fit for trail running shoes, ensure there is enough room in the toe box to accommodate foot movement during runs. It's also important to try on shoes with the socks you plan to wear while running, and to consider the shoe's overall snugness around the midfoot and heel to prevent slippage.
Durable trail running shoes are designed to handle a variety of terrains, including rocky paths, muddy trails, and uneven surfaces. Their sturdy construction and specialized outsoles provide the necessary grip and support for navigating challenging landscapes, making them ideal for both technical and smooth trails.
Yes, materials such as synthetic meshes, reinforced rubber, and high-abrasion textiles are commonly used to enhance the durability of trail running shoes. These materials not only withstand wear and tear from rugged trails but also provide protection against elements like water and mud.
To determine if your trail running shoes are suitable for long-distance runs, check for features like adequate cushioning, support, and a comfortable fit. Shoes designed for long distances typically offer enhanced shock absorption and stability, which are essential for maintaining comfort over extended periods on the trail.
Traction is crucial in durable trail running shoes as it helps prevent slips and falls on various surfaces, especially in wet or uneven conditions. A well-designed outsole with lugs or tread patterns provides grip and stability, allowing runners to navigate steep inclines and descents safely.
