Setting up a kayak to fish can be challenging. Small spaces, things need to be multi functional. Yak Attack gear is on the cutting edge of what is available for your Yak. It however will take a few outting to dial in your rig. Theses rod holder hold all types of rod reel combos, I use them for fly rods. There is a lot of room within the holder, it would be nice if things were tighter, but rods are are not falling off the Yak even if the boat is flipped over. This product works exactly as described. I would have given this 5 stars but the mounting hardware that comes with the item is not worth 2 cents. I went to install and the wall anchors( no lip) actually went all the way through the wall so I just ended up using some wall anchors with a rounded lip that I already had. I know there are plenty of akternatives and knockoffs out there. The scotty is the leader and premium product. The eagle claw, cabelas and others will work for a while but the scotty will last years of hard use. The other brands wear out and tou dont want your rod holder to be the weak point especially pulling planer boards, dipsies and deep diving olugs. The ironic thing is they arent even any more ezpensive. I noticed they cheapened up their packaging for 2013, but just give the product a good once- over before checking out. I have six on my new Alumacraft and two spares. I had Tite Kiks on my old boat... No comparisin. My far the easiest and most positive adjustment and the largest choice of base designs.... Great oroduct at a very good price.

The aluminum spike bent slightly on a large fish( set my drag too tight) but stayed planted in the sand like it should. No issues with the PVC chipping or breaking.
