My partner and I recently bought two kayaks from Dick ’s and needed to transport them over 100 miles through several mountain passes on a windy day. On a whim, we bought this kit and we are so glad we did. In the parking lot of the Dick ’s, we were able to install the kit on the crossbars of her Subaru Outback within 30 minutes and did not need a single tool for assembly! I love this rack! Easy to load and unload your kayak from and easy to strap it down. It's very solid and my kayak does n't move when traveling at 65 mph. No bow or stern tie straps are even necessary when going short distances at 55- 60 mph. My kayak lies flat and does n't allow the wind to push my vehicle while traveling. Compared to other kayak carriers it is also very affordable. I would definitely recommend this rack.

Was easy to install. Be sure to read the instructions. There are adjustment screws you need to use for a snug fit. Loaded easily before my paddle. After a few hours of paddling, I did not have the strength to get the kayak back on. I am a big, strong guy. My kayak is only 68 pounds. Thought I could do it. Fortunately, someone came along and pushed it right up for me. I an going to try it again with the bow rope looped up around the carrier bar. Otherwise, I will only be taking it where I know I can get some help loading.

I 'm using these for kayak racks on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They really fit nicely into recesses under the hood that will keep them from sliding in either direction. Same in the rear hatch although the straps could be just a bit longer for the rear hatch. The rubber tubes are rather large diameter, about an inch, which makes for a really secure hold.

As a canoeist/kayaker for 47 years, I 've tied/racked/trucked a lot of boats. I can recommend the quality of the Malone racks... study frames, reliable attachment system to the car/van, good padding to avoid damage to the boats, good sturdy straps for securing the racks& boats. However, I have been using 2 sets of the Malone J- Racks which can stay attached to the vehicle but can be folded down when not in active use. Getting the racks folded or back into place is very easy and I think can make setting the straps before racking the boat a tad easier than a stationary rack. I like the idea of calling less attention to the fact I have the racks on at all, also cuts down on wind resistence and noise. For a few dollars more, you should shop around for a deal on the Malone fold- down racks.

Did have to tighten the straps after the first 50mi or so, I think the kayaks shifted in some way, then was good to go. Even when the straps were not completely snug the kayaks seemed secure on the rack. Tip, if the blue safety strap makes a wind noise, you might try a half twist in the strap as it spans the tops and bottoms of the kayaks. I did, and the whole assembly rode with no noticeable noise.

Looked on- line for a good kayak rack to transport two recently purchased kayaks at Dick's. The reviews per positive for the Malone Stax Pro2 Kayak Rack. I got a good deal ordering it on- line at Dick's with free shipping. My son and I mounted the rack and it worked well. It took about 30 minutes to figure out how to assemble and install the rack. After the initial install it was easy to use. Could install it in my sleep, once I had experience with the initial install. The rack did a good job transporting to a nearby reservoir. However, on the return trip there was a vibration/hum from the equipment on the roof of the vehicle. Maybe it is the angle/positioning of the kayaks on the return trip that caused this noise. A lady pulling a kayak on a carrier kept looking our way, and she asked where I got the rack, and wanted to know how I liked it. She never seen one like it and was interested in the performance, which I gave it a thumbs up:)

[ I got this so that I would have an easier time loading and unloading my kayak onto my car by myself. It's definitely much easier than the J hook style of rack. It feels very sturdy and I 've never had any trouble with anything shifting during long drives. The front pads tend to flip backwards during loading the kayak sometimes, which makes you have to do a little maneuvering with the boat to get them to flip back the right way. Otherwise, its great!

I bought this set for my 2020 outback and a 10ft kayak. Install was ok, fitment to my crossbars was fine. I wish there was a better way to install the nuts heads and that such nuts are difficult to install without a second pair of hands. All in all, I would n't trust keeping the cradle on the car for extended period of time since the nuts do not have `` anti- back- out '' protection. But for what I will use it for, it is fine.

Purchased this and have used it a few times with a sit- on kayak. The installation was easy and simple. We put it on the car in the Dick's parking lot since we also purchased the kayak from Dick's and needed to get it home( obviously). It easily installed on our Subaru roof rack. I like having the ability to fold down the cradle so we can keep it on even when not transporting the kayak. We 'll take it off during the winter, but no reason to remove it at the moment!

Works Great for fitting multiple boats on a rack. If you are going to put one boat on each side I would recommend buying a set of the 15 ft. load straps. If you are putting this on an Xsporter remember to use the Xadapt 3 adapter kit. There is a link to it in the technical specifcations area on this page. Not sure why Jay from a previous review could n't stumble on that. Great Product, use mine all the time and recommend to all my friends.

When I got kayaks I was trying to avoid racks like the J style Hull a Port. I 've had issues with boats shifting, and am not a fan of the design. The Stacker is a simple design that uses the crossbars to help keep the boat in place. Never had an issue with shifting, even on 8 hour drives with two boats. It's also the cheapest Thule option for more than one boat. Very happy with my decision. Just make sure you put the straps on BEFORE you put the boat on.

For a while now, I 've had one DockGrip and one( competitor) J cradle to transport two boats. I 've always preferred the DockGrip, and finally ponied up for a second. This transports a somewhat heavy boat, but it's always felt secure, loaded easily, and been a breeze to take off and put on each season. I 've never worried about the boat on the DockGrip like I have the one on the J. Additionally, Thule includes a pretty high quality and comprehensive tie down kit. I 'd not only recommend this to a friend, I recommended it to myself... and bought a second.

I Bought these racks for a 10 Hour trip to North Carolina. these things are absolutely rock steady. The steel Straps that attach to your cross bars do n't slip a millimeter during transit. also the strap guide on the top bar of these racks are great so you can set the strap and fold it up without having to climb up on the car to do so. Very pricey as far as kayak racks go but worth every penny in piece of mind.

We own a 2016 two door Jeep Wrangler Sport and was looking for a way to carry two Kayaks on top. A Thule representative was very helpful. My setup is the Thule Rapid Gutter Foot Pack, Thule WingBar Evo 150 and Thule Compass carrier. I also purchased four `` hood loops '', under the hood and rear door, to secure the kayak stern and bow with additional straps. We drove 125 miles to a local river and it handled great. Coming home we towed the Jeep with kayaks behind our Winnebago motorhome and again absolutely no issues. So far we love these products! These are quite good. The hook buckle is easy to engage, and unlike plastic buckles, is unlikely to break. Adjusting the straps is equally simple, and it's possible to put a lot of force into them to really cinch them down. They release easily when you want them to, even when wet, but hold tight otherwise. I 've started using them to replace strap systems on other things. Do n't let Mark's `` weighty '' opinion keep you from these straps. The guy has n't even touched them! I agree that the weight should be provided by the manufacturer, so I 'll give Mark's review two stars.

OK to be fair, I have n't done my final installation( waiting for xadapt12 kit) but can say I love the concept, just not the `` clamps '' that hold the portage padded feet. They do n't really fit an AeroBlade very well( flipped or not). I am going to use Xadapt12 which holds padded foot to AeroBlade by means of T bolt in AeroBlade track.( That's what center hole in padded foot is for.) Expect if to work excellently. Crossroads foot pack and AeroBlades also excellent.

It installed nicely on my 2010 Chevy Equinox and with the help of the Thule slide, I am able to lift and load without any help. It was a nice snug transport of 10 miles driving 55mph. Purchased this saddle for my Wilderness Ride System 115. Previously had the Yakima Evenkeel which sucked for my yak because it was too heavy. The Malone Saddleup Pro is a lot better as far as quality goes. It is VERY easy to assemble and only takes a few minutes. It is also very ridgid and strong. This kayak saddle has made my life easier. The rear saddles with the felt lining make it really easy to slide and push the Kayak up. I have this saddle paired with the Yakima Showboat 66 '' Roller System on my 2013 Subaru Wrx hatchback. I chose to clamp the straps to the I- beam along the centerline of my garage until I get wall space. The system fits my two large- bow kayaks just fine, with enough strap left over after cinching to tie off the paddles and PFDs as well. If you 're able to lift the end of your kayak one person can hang two kayaks in just a couple of minutes.

Like it so far- we have a Rav 4 Adventure and had to put the rack in the middle which makes it a little harder to get the Kayaks on the roof. It might have been better if we bought two separate units so they could be closer to the side of the Rav. Also with the support straight up, the bigger Kayak needs to be held until you get the first strap on it. All that said, the rack seem strong and the Kayaks rode well.

My Folbot kayak is my family's favorite, but until I bought the SeaWing Stinger getting it on the van was a struggle and my wife was always nervous during the trip. Now I can load it by myself. It looks secure, is secure and no wind noise. the family is very happy.

This Kayak rack is great. It is easy to install and easy to load. Safe and effective. When I am hauling just a few miles at 45 mph I skipped the bow and tail lines and it was just fine. When I haul on the highway I will strap is down fully. Liked this product enough I ordered a second one!

Unfortunately, I could n't use this system because unlike the picture, the rear piece does not extend over the back of my vehicle because I have to locate the cross rails more forward. Also, my kayak is too heavy for me to lift onto the piece and I had to figure out a difference way to get it on top of my SUV. For most people, though, it's a good system and the price was very reasonable

This rack holds my kayak firmly in place everywhere I go. It took me a few minutes( and tries) to get it put together, but once you figure it out its easy. Very sturdy and I like the fold down feature so I can leave it on my car. No whistling or vibration at all when empty. Wish it were slightly less expensive. My$ 250 kayak is starting to cost me a fortune in accessories.

As a canoeist/kayaker for 47 years, I 've tied/racked/trucked a lot of boats. I can recommend the quality of the Malone racks... sturdy frames, reliable attachment system to the car/van, good padding to avoid damage to the boats, good sturdy straps for securing the racks& boats. For two years now I have been using 2 sets of these Malone J- Racks which can stay attached to the vehicle but can be folded down when not in active use. I 've transported boats hundreds of miles to upstate NY and New England at highway speeds without a problem with them. Getting the racks folded or locked upright back into place for use is very easy and can make setting the straps before racking the boat a tad easier than a stationary rack. I also like the idea of calling less attention to the fact I have the racks on the SUV when I do n't have a boat loaded and have the racks folded... also cuts down on wind resistence and noise. For a few dollars more than the stationary racks, you should shop around for a deal on this type of Malone fold- down racks.

My wife and I love to be on the water together and the Oru Haven has made it easy. I am a big guy@ 6 ’ 8 ” and 250 lbs. The listed height max for the Haven is 6 ’ 6 ”. I can tell you that I have no problem entering/exiting/paddling. The Haven tracks well in flat conditions and does surprising well when the wind is up. I sit in the aft seat and my 5 ’ 8 ” and 125lbs. wife sits forward. My size 16 feet rest just aft of the forward seat but are forward of the spreader bar at mid- ship.. I don ’ t need to bend my knees at all. The kayak is waterproof in flat water. Because the Haven has such a large open cockpit, we get water into the boat from paddle drip, rain and waves coming on the beam. We are working on a simple ‘ rain fly ’ idea( we are OCD about a wet boat). But, even the water that comes in from drips and rain isn ’ t an issue. The water stays under the orange floor boards so it doesn ’ t create any wet- butt issues while we are paddling. Folding and unfolding the hull is easy. The Oru video is helpful. But, they edited out the most critical element of how the boat goes together in the final fold. Fortunately, it only took us a few extra minutes to figure it out in our living room and now it is easy. Storage inside the hull is adequate. I appreciate how easy it is to carry a 40 lbs. tandem kayak over my shoulder in box mode In summary: we don ’ t think there is a more elegant way to minimize space needs and maximize on- the- water fun. I purchased the Haven( Tandem) and took it out on the water last weekend. The assembly confounded at first until I followed the YouTube assembly video section by section. The second time I put it together took about 10 minutes and was relatively easy( just needed good muscle). The boat is sturdy in the water, it held two adults easily, and we found it easy to steer and navigate. I like that it can convert to a single too. Fits in the trunk of my Camry easily. Only thing I 'd like to add to my Oru is a small hand cart to wheel it from the car to the dock. While it folds up nicely, at age 57 and small framed, it's still quite heavy for me to carry on a shoulder by myself. Otherwise, I have no complaints! Love it and love that I can take it all over the place to rivers and lakes.

Last year I bought kayak racks from Amazon. Despite having the top ratings and reviews, they did n't even last the trip from NY to Maine. The plastic nuts shredded just from hand tightening. This year I ordered a set of Malone Auto Racks and they were great. The threads in the nuts are reinforced metal and held up to tightening. They did n't loosen at all on the 7 hour drive. The instruction manual also contained useful information on using the straps and tying knots properly. I would definitely recommend these racks!
