[ I haven ’ t had this long, so I can ’ t speak to the long- term durability yet. Although, it seems more durable that my last Mammut MIPS helmet because there ’s more plastic covering the foam. I loved the looks of the Mammut helmet, but for the price it was not durable enough( it broke shoving into my pack). This helmet is equally if not more attractive. I didn ’ t know if I ’ d like the chin strap magnet clip on the Petzl helmet, but I like it fine so far.

I took a pretty big slam to the back of my head on my first ride with this helmet and I ’ m not brain dead so I ’ m gon na say it works as advertised. Im actually pretty surprised the helmet is still intact as well. I didn ’ t feel hot or cold with it, so that ’s cool. Style is subjective.

So, this helmet might not be the most inexpensive but it is a name brand from a trusted retailer( I will not take my chance on other sites where they may try to pass a counterfeit), it is light and comfortable, warm, and looks good. The vents direct air to the inside of my goggles to help with preventing fog. My hand hit the dial on back which loosened the helmet only once by accident. [ Picked this up after I finally realized my old Oakley mod 3 had a few too many bumps and bruises, and I 'm very happy I did. I have oddly sensitive ears and get pain from standard ear pads on most helmets, but the mod5 has ear cups with a hollow space inside that fit perfectly. Solid helmet with a great fit/integration with Smith Squad Mag Googles. MIPS makes the helmet fit smaller than advertised, but this was OK for me. If you are at the upper end of the size limit, be wary. Pretty warm, which is great for our cloudy midwest days. Earmuffs definitely make it harder to hear people talking to you.

I sadly only got to use this helmet for a few weeks before taking a pretty bad fall on the hill. But I 'm really happy I had it as the mild concussion I got would have been way worse otherwise! I 'm planning to reorder the same one as it did its job well( and is very comfortable and warm!) I do n't recommend the falling but I do recommend the helmet!

The fit is very comfortable. The integration with SMITH goggles is perfect and adds to the comfortable fit. As for protection, well I haven ’ t tested it but trust SMITH with my safety on snow, single track and road!

However, with the way the ear pads are designed, it is really uncomfortable with the aleck wireless helmet speakers to the point I do n't use them at all. I went 35 years without wearing a helmet consistently, they were always too bulky and heavy. I 'm old and ready to wear a helmet and the code was so light that I did n't even know I was wearing it. The sizing is a little smaller than the Smith MTB helmets with the padding and ear flaps. Once I took those out I would say the sizing is spot on with my other Smith MTB helmets. If I 'm going to wear a helmet, this one looks pretty cool too.

[ I bought this a short bit ago and have n't had a chance to get on snow with yet, but did try it on. As I found out, the addition of the MIPS to the existing Maze design means that the helmet fits small. I wear a Large in the Smith Holt that I 've had for years, but the Large Maze MIPS is just tight enough to be uncomfortable. I 'll exchange it though, as the fit system was great, vents looked good and the look was perfect. More feedback... the ear covers dampened a lot of sound, more than my Holt ever did.

[ I bought this awhile ago as an upgrade from my original helmet. I liked having the MIPS extra protection but did n't want anything too fancy in the design. I rode with this helmet yesterday on the mountain and it was a warmer day, so I was glad I could take off the ear pads for better ventilation. The only drawback to that is the back of the helmet's plastic MIPS does contact the back of your neck so I used raised my neck gaiter up and it was no longer an issue. Solid helmet with great style.
