I 've been using this Surge backpack since 2019 and it has been great! I 've heard my family's thoughts on the newer model of the same backpack and they are not as impressed. The straps are more prone to breaking and the seams have started tearing pretty early in the life of their backpack. This being said, my older model has been so great! It's gone through years of hauling notebooks, folders, textbooks, water bottles, and clothes for practice after school. One of the shoulder straps did begin to tear last year( 2024) slightly but a quick stitch- job has got it back to working order. I would definitely buy a North Face backpack again!

I love how the laptop sleeve has a false bottom so when you place the laptop in the backpack it does n't accidentally knock the surface the backpack may be resting on. I use the sleeve next to the laptop sleeve for files, and it has enough space for everything I need without being too big or too small. Comfortable, no worries. I 'm so glad I did n't order these online, I opted to try on my normal size at a local retailer and they were crazy tight, like early 2000s skinny jeans. I then tried on 2 sizes up from my regular waist size and they fit nicely with a belt. If you work out and have thighs and glutes that are semi- built order a size or two up in the waist for mobility. As far as quality goes, I like the thickness and rigidity of the material, definitely a nice resistant fabric.

Great improvements from last year. I liked the trail sender shorts from last year and these improve on the previous version in several ways. First, the best thing about the previous version is the ultra lightweight ripstop fabric and how well it performs in hot weather- the only comparable pants I ’ ve found in weight are the Patagonia Terrebonne joggers, and these are somehow feel even cooler in hot( 90+ F) humid weather. The new 2024 version feels like it has the same fit, but improves on some annoyances from last year: 1. The waistband is slightly elastic, which is more comfortable from previous near 0 stretch 2. The pockets are deeper and the zip pocket has been moved from the front thigh to the side hip. This is a big improvement where your phone no longer barely fits in the pocket or runs up against your hipbone when sitting 3. The construction feels higher quality and more premium. Too early to tell on how durability will compare but definitely feels like it ’ ll perform better Very happy with all the changes made!

[ I came across this jacket when searching for a synthetic alternative to my down jacket for backpacking. And while it's maybe just a little too heavy and bulky for my ultralight goals, I bought it because I liked it so much in general( tried in on in a store, bought it on Mossejaw). And now I wear it anytime the weather's a little chilly. It's warm, a great fit-- not too tight, not too baggy-- and the material just feels great. I 've also had it out in light rain for half an hour or so, and nothing soaked in. So it really is at least a little water repellent. Only con is, I do n't like the double, left- handed zipper, but I 'll get used to it. And who knows, maybe I 'll end up bringing it on a backpacking trip, since I like it so much. I love my new pack, and I am currently traveling with it in South America. The compartments fit my packing cubes perfectly, and the shoulder straps are very comfortable. I ’ m pretty sure I could travel for several months out of this pack, if I stayed in a similar climate zone. I ’ ve been able to carry it on to all of my flights so far, and fits easily in the overhead compartment of the jets I have been on. I had one zipper malfunction of with the top compartment, as the key clip cord was caught in the zipper, and I had to cut the cord to get it open.

I 've bought three pairs of these pants over the years. They are slim- fitting, a bit stretchy, and lightweight. Good for summer. They have some nice details like the pockets and cuff snaps, although honestly I do n't use either of those much. They are very slim fitting, so make sure you do n't order them too small in the waist. This puffy is best used for around 0 C to 5 C in dry weather, in sub zero temps it may not be warm enough. The fabric is soft and comfy to touch with a nice fleece lining on chin and neck area to keep that area warm and also helps if you have a beard. I 'm about 170 cm, 66 kg and a small fit too tight in the chest and armpits, medium fits well relaxed with room to layer, the sleeves are just a bit long. The hood and collar have nice coverage to keep head and neck warm. Personally, I do n't mind the yellow shoelace, it does n't get in the way much. A great feature is the double zipper which allows you to vent heat without taking the jacket off.

I live in the Western mountains of Maine beside the White Mountain National Forest. We get spooky weather here. It was a brittle- 10° when I got up at 0530. I threw my Expedition Pack Down Hoodie on over just a merino wool base layer. Something I wear 24/7 in the winter here. I was quite comfortable outside. I 'm not going to lie, my face stung from the cold. A quick pull, a tug or two here and there and voila! Now it was tolerable which is enough! I 'm 69. I 've been through a few jackets in my lifetime. I can tell within 5 minutes whether a jacket will do the job and stand up to wear. This was a treat to myself. I have gone through so many winters with barely adequate clothing. This year I finally figured out how to dress. This jacket is superb. It handled some rather high wind the other day better than I expected. I HATE feeling that cold wind blow right through a jacket! Look, I found myself just wanting to go for a walk the other day just so I could wear it! I love the length in the back. Not keeping your butt covered is asking for trouble! Love the arm length which SHOULD be a tad longer than normal to ensure no `` pull up '' around your wrists. Love way you can pull this jacket around your body. Everything is adjusted just for me! Any jacket like this really shines with proper layer material. It's no secret but, just go with wool. Period. A wool base layer( I go with the thickest I can find) is the key. I 've had several pairs of rain pants from other manufacturers over the years and these are the best so far. They do n't restrict my leg movements, do n't leak, and are easy to get on and off. The rise is high, so you have good overlap with your top and the waist drawstring seems sturdy enough, although I pair them with suspenders also. Rain and wet brush are expected if you are outside much of the year here in the PNW, so you need some good rain pants.

My issue is n't with the pants which are great, BUT with the sizing chart- I am 6' 3 '' and 36 '' waist and a large size works for me but I have an 34 '' inseam and the chart recommendation is to get a tall size however I think regular would have been much better. The pant legs bunch up at the bottom when I have mid waterproof hiking shoes on. The OR pro deal is great but unfortunately they do n't allow exchanges or returns. I would liked to have swapped this pair for a large regular.

happy with this jacket. i used at mt Bachelor for four days. it was cold week but i never got cold, in fact i had to open vents. i 'm 6' 1 '' and its very comfortable fit. hood its true helmet compatible. main zipper sometimes was stubborn but manageable. i would improve the top of inside part of zipper where Gore- Tex material is touching your face/ mouth when hood is over the helmet by putting softer cloth material, maybe even this piece could be removable for often cleaning. overall good jacket.

There's a reason you see so many really favorable reviews of this jacket. It checks all the boxes. Packable, super light, blocks the wind, repels mist or light rain and looks great. Pull it out of your kit at a windy summit or the top of a pitch. If you are slim and athletic, it fits true to your usual size. The pockets make it easy for me to stay organized and access a variety of gear while on the trail, and the brain turns into a little day pack. The only negative on the day pack feature is that the straps secure with plastic toggles through loops rather than buckles, so they come out when you are n't wearing the pack. This pack is super durable. I have sat on it, accidently thrown it in a beaver pond, checked it at the airport, and much more, and it has n't ripped or shown much wear yet( knock on wood of course). The water bottle pockets have a holster feature, so you can access your bottles without help and fit notebooks, maps, or fuel bottles in the top part of the pocket. I am a notorious over packer, and I can always fit everything I need and still hike comfortably with this pack. If you like ultra light this might not be your pack, but if you want to hike for a long time while staying organized and comfortable this is a great pack.

Osprey really has outdone themselves, especially with the front opening compartment. Easy access for everything and fits so many things in it as well. Easy to clean and the straps do n't hurt as bad as other brands.

[ The Ariel Plus 85 backpack was a game changer for me. I 'm not a `` professional '' backpacker, so packing everything but the `` kitchen sink '' was a desire. Although I wound up not packing that too, I did manage to get everything I needed, and more, into this pack for a 3 night solo trip. An ultralight tent and a 4. 7 '' high sleeping pad were carried on the outside of the pack, while my mummy- style sleeping bag was in the sleeping bag compartment at the bottom of the bag. Other necessary items took up the rest of the space, with room to spare. Not only was there plenty of room in this bag, but it was incredibly comfortable. I 'm humpbacked, so not many backpacks are comfortable for me. With the adjustable torso feature, I was able to get a truly dialed- in fit and was able to hike without discomfort.

Osprey really outdid themselves with this one, thinking of every little detail for organization and packing this pack. Additionally, the suspension is great and carrying over 40% of my body weight, I felt the weight, but not the pack! I like my comfort and I do not like to be cold and I carry food for my dogs, while they carry the water, therefore, I need all of this space. The only detail that osprey does on all of their packs is that sleeping bag divider is not fully removable, just `` '' disconnect- able '' '' so you still have to carry the divider around with you adding weight and it does get in my way. I have never used it since it prevents me from stuffing every solitary nook and cranny of the bag. Also, when the bag is stuffed, I have never been able to successfully open and then re- close the bottom zipper anyway. Same with the side zippers Osprey has on most of its packs. HOWEVER, they surely did get it right with the front zippers on this pack! You can open the entire front and then re- close it even when fully stuffed! Wonderful!!! Also, the side pockets, unlike other Osprey models, really can be used and things added and taken out even when the pack is fully stuffed. I love the front organization pockets and keep things that I need handy like GPS and maps, etc in one and repellent and netting, or if it is a cold, snowy backpack, gloves and hat, in the other.

Finally a large woman's specific pack! Thank you Osprey! I have been using men's or unisex packs my whole life until last year. What a difference specificity makes! This pack is so incredibly comfortable you do n't really know you have it on. I am certain I will be able to travel more distance without fatigue with this pack. Six pounds for the M/L may seem like a heavier pack, but the infrastructure and material is worth it. This pack will be my only pack for multi day trips! Thank you.

I did add some shock cord with cord locks to the top and front daisy chain loops. Just to add some quick storage if needed. It is very comfortable once adjusted to my torso size. I originally bought this pack to walk the Camino de Santiago France, 500 miles. But, it was too tall to use as a carry on bag on the airline. I did train with it and walked a lot of miles through mountains, etc.. Very comfortable and well designed. Everything functions well.

Still looks new, quality is superb. Passport fits perfectly in hip pockets and snacks and earbud case. Very light and comfortable. My bag was roughly 25- 40 pounds at all times. Lightweight, great coverage, looks good as it fits actual head shape vs stiff shape. I was debating between s/m and l/xl as I 'm in the middle. Went with s/m as it can stretch a bit. Could have gone either way.

Hat is packable, lightweight, and had the best face and neck coverage of any I found. Also has a drawstring to keep it on. I haven ’ t used it yet but I know it will do what it ’s designed to and protect you from the sun. This is going to be my go to hat for kayaking. I ’ ll probably look a bit silly but I don ’ t care because I want to protect my skin and that ’s the main goal here with this hat.

I love the protection of the ultra adventure hat. It is lightweight and great for pickleball! The hat absorbs sweat well. I wash it in cold water in a lingerie bag on gentle cycle. It dries quickly and looks like new.

I was looking for a medium size pack for an overnight summit trip and this fits the bill. I like the decent size water bottle pockets on the side, hydration bladder support( that doubles as laptop pocket if not used) and the hideable waist straps. I also like the hidden mesh pocket for jacket/wet things. I wish there ’s a soft bottle pockets on the shoulder strap. The only minor annoyance I found was the thin zipper pulls are hard to find. But I love everything else about the bag.

Great hiking back- pack! Decently waterproof, good size for a day hike allows you to bring lunch, big water bottle, jacket and an additional layer and has plenty of space left. Everything is adjustable and it creates a great fit that makes carrying heavy items( like rocks, I 'm a geologist) very easy. Only disadvantage is that it has only one additional pocket on top( apart from the mesh front pocket) so all small things like keys, bandaids, lib balm, sunglasses have to go all together.

My torso is 17 '' so I purchased the S/M size expecting it to be on the shortest setting. I found I needed to have it just under the longest setting to fit me correctly with the middle of the hip belt on my iliac crest. I think you might be able to squeeze into this pack if your torso is 19 '' maximum. Easily the most comfortable pack I have tried on, very happy with my purchase.

This pack surprised me on the upside. For my daily needs, I only need 16 liters, but I carry a 13 '' laptop and want good organization. This pack delivers. It's a very good design and great materials. Well thought out internal organization. My only gripe is the fabric used for the top quick access pocket feels like cheap sweatshirt material. It wo n't scratch sunglasses, but I 'd prefer something a little nicer. That said, I give this pack a thumbs up.

It is exactly what I was looking for in an everyday pack that I can also use for day hikes. The pockets are great, the straps are all adjustable and there even a whistle on the chest strap. Lots of options for attachment of items such as poles on the exterior of the pack. I love the small fleece pocket at the top of the bag. The outer pocket is great for putting wet or smelly items in. The water bottle pockets can be a bit of squeeze if you have a full pack for a Nalgene but it still fits. There is also a hole for a hydration bladder to fit through. Overall great pack for everyday life and day adventures! Love it.

Bought this pack a few months ago as a dayhike/laptop bag. Works great for both. My only disappointment was the trekking pole loops, which FUNCTION, but I typically carry them in one of the side stretch pockets as the bungees are not especially robust. Do not expect to be able to carry more than a rain jacket, down jacket, and a few essentials.
