I 've owned quite a few Zeb co reels over the last 40 years and they are an affordable and consistent performer. I rarely lose a fish because of the reel. They 're easy to use and fun. And this is the best I 've ever used. It's nearly silent. The drag action is smooth as silk and the retrieve is just as good. Gone is the loud ratcheting sound when a fish puts on a fight. If you like that, then grab the Authentic 33. It will sound like you expect, but this is silent and buttery smooth. Zeb co makes much more expensive reels, loaded up with quality bearings. But unless you 're making a living on a boat, this should be plenty. I go fishing every weekend with my sons and I 've caught dozens of fish on this. Mostly pan fish, crappie and bass but I 've reeled in a few nice carp and catfish as well. The reel did well.

I bought this rod and reel combo about two weeks ago, as an upgrade to my PENN Fierce IV Surf Combos for my shark surf fishing setup. Caught 3 big bat rays and a 5 ft long leopard shark on the combo with ease. Reel is insanely powerful, and by far one of the best reels you can get out there in the “ middle to expensive ” price range for PENN spinning reels. not the prettiest rod ever made..... hence the name. But it works and works well. We use these with Abu 7000's for big stripers in shore. Great warranty as well 7 years! Sensitive enough for live eels but tough enough to spoon troll.

Got this rod on sale around Christmas. Have been fishing with it a number times and think it's great. Ordered it online and it was shipped directly from Lew's perfectly wrapped. Caught a number of small bass but some medium sized ones but also a monster that had to weigh more than 8 lbs. It has handled everything perfectly and the rod is still perfectly straight. The rod is light and my hand or arm do not get tired at all. Check it out, you 'll lke it.

I love almost everything about the rod. I bought the 6, 6 medium 2 peice. It's light weight, and very sensitive, I feel every bite! The only down side I have to the rod is the bait holder hook on the rod is right under your hand, which is a terrible spot if using treble hooks, or any hooks for that matter. Other then that, it's a great rod for bass fishing!
