This is my 3rd baitcasting reel and still consider myself a beginner. It was incredibly easy to dial everything in! Casting it was smooth and the only backlashes I experienced was just due to inexperience. After I dialed everything in, I used my thumb to cast and did n't experience any backlash. Eventually, I was able to cast it without my thumb and did n't experience any backlash! It's an incredible reel and would highly recommend. Definitely beginner friendly as long as you understand the basics of dialing in. I threw a bunch of different lures and hardly had to adjust. Just a great experience overall. The price is a steal!

I purchased the 30 for my daughter about a month ago to go with her Stratus rod. She wanted pink braid but we could only find 15lb line so we spooled it up and threw a topwater on it and tested it out. To both of our amazement, she casted a good 35 yards on her first cast which is about double of what she was capable of with her old reel using the same rod and line brand. We switched rods keeping the same line and again, 30- 35 yards easy. I know there are a few factors when casting, but the only change made was the reel. This led me to believe that this reel made a huge difference for her. This is probably one of the best purchases for fishing equipment by far. Not to mention, the employee in the fishing section at the Summerville, SC location recommended it. Smooth casting, lightweight, very sleek, definitely recommend picking one up.

I bought this reel( 2500 size) and paired it with a Lew's Custom Pro Speed Stick( got in on sale for$ 90) and am using with 8 lb test fluoro. I use this set up for lightweight and finesse type fishing such as skipping senkos under docks, drop shot fishing or throwing weightless texas rigs around. Will say this reel feels really smooth and can cast a great distance without much weight. Skipping under docks is way easier with this reel also because of how smooth it is. It is definitely an upgrade from the Lew's Mach Crush spinning combo and the Lew's Mach 2 spinning combo I have. My dad is trying to get back into fishing and plan to buy him this as his first reel as well. Definitely recommend.

I bought this at the beginning of the trout season just so I didn ’ t have the break the bank. After about a month of using it, I can confidently say that this rod exceeded my expectations. It casts nice and far, and the reel feels solid. The rod itself hasn ’ t given me any issues and is super sensitive. I would just recommend removing the line that comes on it and replacing it with nicer mono or braided. Besides that 10/10!!

I made a decision to purchase this reel because they were on sale. I am a Shimano guy. I bought one and put it on my most abused application. 65 pound braid. On my frog rod. One year later I purchased 2 more due to apparent toughness of the first. Put them on my second and third most used rods. Fast forward two more years, I have replaced all of my Shimano reels. The button to cast needs to be depressed quite deliberately and firm, something my 6 yr old had some trouble with. She loved the color and that it was a larger rod than her previous rod. The clicker is awesome, i was standing 20- 30 feet away and herd it over the noise from the rapids. I returned a rod to my local store and ended up picking up this combo. I picked it up for tog fishing and use it for all my bait fishing now. My girlfried used it fluke fishing and the only thing she did n't like was the right hand retrieve. I purchased a left hand retrieve rival reel for when she goes. The reel is smooth and also has the retrive rate in inches per turn on the side plate. The rod is sensitive but also has a good back bone to it.
