I bought this jacket to wear during a march trip to France where I knew I ’ d need layers to handle the temperature shifts. It was perfect. I ’ m a petite, active woman in my 70 ’ d. I bought a size small and it fit as expected. The hood worked well with and without a hat underneath and I really like the green color.

5 JasFace
[ I bought this jacket because I needed something a little lighter than my full on, white out, blinding blizzard, mid- west 40 below winter coat. It ’s perfect. Long enough to cover below my waist, but not parka length. The hood is great too! The coat is a little fitted but still roomy enough to wear a sweatshirt underneath. So far it ’s been great for cool fall camping nights.

5 ABF10
[ I am usually a small and bought a medium to layer. Perfect. I have large hips and I can zip easily. The arms are a good, long length. This coat breathes so on really cold days, I use it as a mid- layer. I would say it's good on its own above 40 degrees.

5 Morris1986
[ I got this jacket a month ago and was a bit worried because it was so light weight but I quickly found it was soo warm! I love it for everyday and the quality of Fjallraven continues to impress.

5 linbrin92
[ The perfect jacket if you ’ re looking for a lightweight, warm jacket. It is not too bulky and keeps me super warm. I am usually a medium and ended up with a large so that I could have many layers on at once. I originally got an XL because of some of the reviews saying that they ran super small but had to exchange it because that was way too big. I hope this helps!

Tested out the new UL Premonition during my training in Salt Lake City and my recent Makalu expedition. Two of the best features of the jacket are its weight and packability — it is incredibly light and easy to pack into my backpack, especially when carrying a lot of gear and equipment up to higher camps. The jacket shielded me from rain, snow, and high winds at higher altitudes. It ’s highly mobile and easy to wear. Particularly love the internal long zippered pocket — perfect for storing important devices like iPhone or Garmin inReach.

5 Anya
[ Employee of mountainhardwear] This is my go- to lightweight waterproof shell. Basically like a feather in my backpack, there is no reason not to bring it. Alpine climbing, mountain biking, hustle footing. I live in the PNW and rain is almost guaranteed on every outing- got ta have this.

5 Jayrae__
I bought this in the early summer bc I was in desperate need of a new rain jacket( my old one was literally crumbling apart!). This past weekend I assisted in the rescue 7 people who were capsized in a pontoon boat. I dove into the water with phone and all in the pocket of this jacket. After the scary event ended I took my phone out of my pocket and was shocked to still see the phone screen activated! The phone still needed about 7 hours to completely dry out and let me charge it but it ’s completely fine now. Obviously this jacket isn ’ t meant to be submerged but the saving the phone of it all felt worth mentioning. This jacket is also WARM and I don ’ t feel like raindrops are still making me cold through the jacket. It ’s also a superb wind breaker. I wore it on a 5k ft hike and the wind at the top was bearable in this jacket. It ’s expensive but it WORKS.

[ Ordered a size bigger as I am a curvier woman. I usually struggle to find jackets that do n't make me look like a box or that I can actually zip over my hips. This was perfect because it has the waist synch and it's the perfect weight for Northwest weather!

5 JGrey
[ I love this jacket. It's a perfect weight to layer warmth underneath, or keep yourself cool on warm rainy days. It fits beautifully. I prefer light colors for visibility in stormy conditions, so I got the white/tan one. The internal drawstring at the waist is flattering. The hood WILL NOT blow down in wind. I wish they did n't use so much velcro on the front tab covering the zipper, but I do like the low profile effect of it, so it's a wash. I am 5'8 '', 125# and I got the small.

5 Kathy W
[ Love this jacket, looks great, fits great. Compact for suitcase, waterproof for Alaska weather. Cant wait to use this on my cruise to Alaska

5 Cara
[ I love the color and how flattering this jacket is! An XXL is mid- thigh length for me at 5'7 '' and a pear shaped body. I do keep zipping the inside cords up into the zipper.

I am between a medium and a large, and I opted for the large for ease of movement and layering abilities. It is weatherproof and yet breathable, and the length makes it easy to get in and out of the car. I highly recommend this coat.

[ I ’ m in surgical menopause& am constantly trying to strike the right balance between being too hot or too cold. This jacket is absolutely perfect. It ’s lightweight enough to e breathable but at the same time the Omni- tech heating feature kept me warm during a hike. Love that it ’s waterproof as well( walked in rain& I was completely dry). The hood is also great- I can wear a winter hat underneath it& it ’s not too loose. Plus the moonbeam color is my favorite color. 10/10 would recommend.

5 Chris P.
I purchased this jacket a few weeks ago and brought it with me last week on a 3 day fly fishing trip in western NC. The temperatures at first light on the water were in the mid 30's and this jacket kept my core warm and cozy! I 'm 5 '' 10 160 pounds and the medium was a perfect fit. Plenty of room under the arms and chest area for layering, easily adjustable hood, and plenty of room in the front pockets and the interior pocket too. You also have a adjustable cord around the waist, though I did not need to adjust the fit. The fleece padding found on the interior near your neck, chin and mouth is brilliant! This soft material is fantastic when you need to zip the jacket completely up. This jacket is ethically sourced from 100% recycled polyamide and packs into its pocket or a small back. I 'm very happy with this purchase, well done FjallRaven!

5 Christopher P.
It's so soft and warm and looks great. Just one question. What does it pack into in the video?

5 Grant G.
This is by far the warmest and most comfortable puffy I ’ ve owned. Compared to other brands, this jacket has a higher collar and slightly longer sleeves and back which really seems to help hold the heat. It feels like great quality for a packable puffy. I ’ m 6 ’ 1, 180 lbs and size large fits well layered with a sweater.

5 Jack
I ’ m not sure why anyone gets cold in this jacket. I use this as my outer layer when I ski. All I need underneath is a tshirt and and an old sweatshirt and I ’ m perfect in 0°- 30°F weather. The temperature in Colorado has been hovering around 0°F the last few days, so on short excursions around, I stay plenty warm. Walking around campus this jacket is light and super comfortable. It allows me to not have to layer up much as it takes on the cold itself. It ’s also very durable for a down jacket, I ’ ve clipped trees and crashed hard when skiing, had dogs jump on me, cats claw me, and no damage so far.

Pants are relatively lightweight, stretch is amazing, and super comfortable. They get wrinkly if you let them sit in the dryer for too long. So be careful on that.

I have Fessari Shorts that I love and this is my first time getting the pants. They are true to size and just as great feeling as the shorts. I like that the leg is a slightly tapered for a slimmer fit.

5 Bobbins
I bought this jacket a month ago after trying it on at a Fjallraven store. The jacket runs a little large as I almost could fit into a small at 190 lbs and 6ft. I settled with a medium and it fits very nicely, not too tight across the shoulders and back as many jackets are. I use this jacket fishing and hiking in the back country of Vermont. Even the g1000 light is tough enough to push through thick woods without being fazed by sharp branches. This is the jacket I have been looking for, good looking and functional, tough material, waterproof( add more wax for heavy rain) and not too heavy. Bought in the dark olive color, very nice and could serve well as a hunting jacket in some situations. Hood is large and has good structure but can also be sinched down in two directions. I will definately be buying from Fjallraven again.

5 Chuck M.
This jacket has become my favorite jacket for everyday wear. It's stylish enough for daily use, but the fabric is tough enough to hold up in the bush without punctures or tears. I 've also gotten it pretty dirty with dust and mud, and it has cleaned easily. I was expecting to use the jacket in milder temps, but I 've discovered that with a baselayer and a sweater underneath( and a nice coat of Greenland wax on the jacket) it performs very well on the coldest Michigan mornings. When using it in milder temps, each of the pockets is vented all the way through the jacket, so you can simply open up each pocket to allow airflow. 5'11, 175#- purchased a medium in the dark gray. Perfect fit for me( not baggy, but not restrictive), though the arms are a bit long.

5 Clint E.
I have lots of mountain gear, but unless it's howling and I need a hardshell, I always reach for this jacket. It has now been most of the way around the world with me. Whether I 'm doing multi- day treks or exploring new cities, it's great at everything. The cut is perfect. I 'm English but perhaps I have a Swedish body. I have finally found a jacket with perfect length sleeves! The articulation is great, it has a decent hood that does n't get in the way, and there is a thoughtful layout to the pockets. I have also introduced two of my friends to Fjallraven jackets, and they adore them. As long as Fjallraven keeps this cut/sleeve length, they have a faithful customer for life right here.

5 Graham Douglas L.
I love the fit and the details on this jacket. Keeps me dry in light rain too. If it does get wet it dries in about 30 mins. I am tall 6'3 '' and the sleeves and body are plenty long and it's a nice trim fit as well. Love it so much I bought the insulated version as well.

5 Jacob M.
So far so good. The fit is right, good for a base and mid layer underneath, or a light puffy coat. Two layers of wax and it beads water well. Looking forward to testing it in the upcoming winter season at Alta. Great for fending off the stickers and pokers of southern Utah canyon country. Did do with the Vidda Pro Trousers I also bought.

I 've worn them cross country skiing, snowshoeing, winter hiking, kayaking, and on the plane home. Layer on rain pants and and you'r good for almost any winter conditions. I also love them for camping, I thrown them on in chilly evenings by the campfire. The short version of these parts are fit me perfectly, the combination of fabrics are comfortable, and the cut is flattering and functional.

5 Banrai
I use these pants when hiking and camping in cold/damp weather. The fleece liner feels so comfy against the legs, and the outer shell is durable. These pants are extremely flattering, but I am not a curvy girl... I 'm more straight- shaped. I could see why a curvy figure would have some issues with the waistband. I am in the outdoors all the time for work, and these are a go- to pair for me in the colder and shoulder months. I will be buying more.

5 Rachel C.
I previously bought OR's Methow legging and loved them too, but these pants are even better. They are nice and stretchy, just like the Ferossi pants, but with fleece lining to keep you warm when cold weather hiking. I love the fit-- they have a slightly high waist, which was not obvious to me from the pictures, and I like that so much better than the low rise I find on most hiking pants. Another reviewer complained about the fit, but for me, a more curvy gal, the fit was perfect. I also love the side pockets, including one zippered one. They stretch a bit when wearing them so if you are between sizes, considered the lower size. I will definitely be ordering another pair and wearing these throughout the winter.

[ I bought this to replace a 16 year old 800 fill down coat. This coat is warmer than the old one was. It fits well, lofts well and seems durable. It packs into its pocket for backpacking or cold weather hikes. I 'm happy.

[ I bought this jacket with the upcoming Winter in mind replacing my previous ten years ’ old puffer. I can tell it ’s going to be warm enough for the E coast winter but what really blows my mi d is just how light it is. Whereas I ’ ve always had jackets that encumbered my movements and I ’ d simply got used to that fact, this jacket feels so incredibly light and form fitting that it ’s going to be a new experience for my winters. I love the fact it feels like a light jacket instead of a ‘ winter coat ’ and can ’ t wait to be wearing it daily very soon.

You can never have too many midlayers! This statement is always true, and that is one of the many reasons the Keele Grid hoody is something you should get. I 'm 5'9 '' 165lbs. and the medium fits comfortably. It does n't have a really technical fit like an r1; it's a more relaxed fit. This jacket is the r1 that you can wear everyday, but with pockets and way more wind resistance. I 've been grabbing this every morning when I leave the house on all these cool Spring mornings. The hood is really comfortable, and I 've always been a half- zip kind of guy, but I 'm loving the full- zip jacket feel.

5 Daniel C
I am a search and rescue volunteer and climbing wall instructor who spends my time in Arizona and Washington state. Working in a wide range of environmental conditions requires that my gear does the same. I ordered the Keele grid hoody as large, my usual size, and I found it fit true to size. The Keele hoody has performed exceptionally while climbing, traveling, and hiking. The recycled polyester double weave fabric is my favorite feature of the Keele. Its brushed back grid interior is soft and wicks moisture well while the DWR coating on the exterior provides durability and water resistance. Even when soaked through, the Keele kept me warm climbing in less- than- ideal conditions. The three- piece hood functions incredibly well and I found it fit over or under a climbing helmet. I have thoroughly enjoyed using the Keele and recommend it as a base or mid layer for nearly any outdoor endeavor.

5 pbetts
I am a rock climbing guide who guides across Colorado and Utah and its important for me to have gear that works well, is durable and looks professional. I was excited for this hoody to arrive as it checked a lot of those boxes for me. The large fits ideally for me at 6'2 '', 215lbs and long arms. I have a bit of an issue in the past with MHW sizing as it seemed I was right in between a L and XL but this jacket fits wonderfully. The waterproofing is functional if you are stuck in some light rain, as the water will bead right off. The brushed grid interior gives the hoody that cozy feel which means you 'll never want to take it off. It is a lot denser of a hoody than I was expecting but that's a positive in my books. I really think this hoody is for anyone who wants a full zip mid layer jacket but it will find itself at home the most in the backpacks of you Spring rock climbers!

5 PO
I work as a climbing guide in Colorado, so my work takes me to a variety of locations and climates. My initial guess as to what the Keele would be like was similar to other grid fleeces: lightweight and flexible. The latter is more true than the former. This layer was surprisingly heavy- and I think that's fantastic. It presents a different layering option than other mid- layers that tend to strive to be light. The inner fabric is extremely soft, so it feels great next to skin. I was caught in a mild drizzle and the outer fabric did a great job beading water and not letting me get soaked. I 'm 5'10 '' 165 and it felt just a hair big on me. If it was colder( ice climbing or mountaineering) I would appreciate the room to layer. As the only mid- layer I was wearing it was just a slight bit big, but I did n't find that problematic at all.

5 Skyler
Bought this for a recent Rainier climb. Excellent layering piece to pair with my Ghost Whisperer. Good wind protection bit still breathes well during high exertion. I am 6' tall and 195 lbs. The Large fits perfectly. Would definitely buy again.

I 'm 5ft 2, 130lbs, and wear an xs. The high- rise fit is flattering and I love how warm the lining is. I wear them climbing all of the time and they never slide down like other climbing pants.

5 MLG
I have several pairs of the Dynama/2 pants but wanted something warmer for cooler temps. These are great! Warm but not hot so once I get moving I don ’ t get overheated. Plenty of room to add a this base layer for really cold days. I am 5 ’ 4 ”, 122lbs. Usually wear an XS in Dynama/2 crop pants, and a S in full length pants. I found the small the most comfortable in these lined pants. The fit is soft and very comfortable around the waist, They look nice on too, made for a woman ’s body.

5 LJW
I bought these because I already had several pairs of the Dynama high rise pants and I wanted something for colder weather. I bought the same size that I wear in other Dynama patns. The cut is very flattering and still allows full range of motion for climbing. The lining is sooo soft and comfy and I love the drawstring waist! My only complaint is that the Corozo Nut color is not at all as pictured — it's more of a gold/dark khaki color than the warm brown that I was expecting which was disappointing. If I had known I probably would have gotten a different color.

5 Leana
Super warm and very comfortable! Does not absorb water, perfect for snowy conditions. I love the option to make the ankles tight or leave them for a bootcut fit. Very high quality, and I enjoy them very much for hiking and for climbing! True to size.

Went hiking in the Lake District and discovered my abisko tights were too large. Fortunately, I found a Fjallraven vendor and found these tights, which turned out perfect as I need a bit more insulation. I love the feel of these. They kept me warm on some pretty brutal days. They dry quickly. I am absolutely in love with Fjallraven tights, and these are a new favorite.

5 FjällFox
I think Fjällräven really succeeded it balancing the comfortability of tights with the durability required for trekking in forests. These are a perfect combination of the two- flattering and well fitting tights that hold up to the scuffing and scratching that comes with trekking through a natural environment. They still look brand new after several washes and many many treks. The added warmth is such a nice bonus!

5 Shellbell
[ These are great outdoor/hiking leggings! They are warm and seem durable so far. I live on the Northern California coast where it ’s cold most of the year. These leggings are perfect for exploring in! Love them:)

[ Love the way these pants fit! I always love the look of Fjallraven pants, but these aren ’ t as warm as I hoped. I ’ ve used them in lower temps( 20- 30 ’s F) and my legs are cold to the touch. I definitely have less expensive rights that keep my legs warmer.

I absolutely love my new jacket! Just to be cleared... I loved the previous Mt Hardwear jacket I had, but the zipper broke& your co. stood behind their product& gave me a very generous credit, when they could n't fix the original zipper. THIS is why I shop with Mt Hardwear!... Excellent quality& standing behind your product( when it failed after 12 years of HEAVY use).

5 Michael_George
I just got this jacket, but by first impressions of use... WOW! This thing is exactly what I wanted. I have a shell for warmer days but had to bundle too many layers to stay warm on those cold days. I run very hot while skiing, I get to the bottom and need to strip or open all my layers to not overheat. This jacket gives you breathability while carrying the insulation that keeps you warm on the chair up. Literally the only thing that could be improved is the size of the armpit ventilation. Like I mentioned above I run hot so I would have enjoyed more airflow when I open the vents. But that tiny detail is the only thing I can find at fault and it's more of a personal preference. Bravo Mountain Hardwear!

5 Juhlski
This was a replacement pair for my old ones that had done me a good 10 years' service before the left zipper slide broke. I am 5'2 '' and really appreciate Marmot making full- zip pants in `` short. '' Because I live in an arid region, I use these mostly in winter for backcountry ski touring, layered over a pair of thermal bottoms. Aside from my unfortunate experience with the previous zipper slide, I do like the robustness of the zipper teeth. The water repellency of the fabric needs to be renewed every once in a while with a spray- on product. I have never been wet on the inside. Good fit, relaxed legs( 5'2 '', 125 lb. wear M- short). My inseam runs around 28- 29. ''

5 Abbey

I got this for an upcoming trip to Ireland. I am 5'1 '' and a size 25 waist but I got a size S so I can still wear sweaters underneath. It's so cute and exactly what I was looking for! So far I 've worn it during heavy rain while walking my dog and I stayed completely dry. I like the little flap on the hood so rain does n't get in your face as easily. I like the adjustable waist and hood. I would 've preferred buttons or some other way to secure the front flap as opposed to the velcro but it is n't that big of a deal to me. It feels well made and is warm without making me hot. It does look like a heavier coat because of the insolation but it's pretty light.

[ Employee of mountainhardwear] Rain jackets are simple things. We expect them to be lightweight, packable, breathable and to not fail. But, when you add simple but effective features like stretch fabric and pit zips? Now you 've got my business. The Stretch Ozonic fits well leaving a little room for layering underneath. Some rain jackets are like saunas for me, so when I start to steam I love having pit zips to regulate my personal humidity. This does it for me.

Frequently Asked Questions For Hiking in Fall Clothes

When selecting hiking clothes for fall weather, consider materials that provide warmth and moisture-wicking properties to keep you comfortable during varying temperatures. Look for layers that can be easily added or removed, such as lightweight jackets and insulated options, to adapt to changing conditions. Additionally, choose breathable fabrics that allow for ventilation while protecting against wind and light rain. Finally, ensure that your clothing allows for ease of movement, as this is essential for an enjoyable hiking experience.

When hiking in cooler temperatures, it's important to choose layers that provide warmth, moisture management, and protection from the elements. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin, followed by an insulating mid-layer for added warmth. Finally, opt for an outer layer that is windproof and waterproof to shield against rain and wind. Consider the specific weather conditions and your activity level to adjust the thickness and type of layers accordingly.

When selecting fall hiking apparel, look for materials that provide warmth, breathability, and moisture-wicking properties. Fabrics like fleece and insulated synthetics are great for retaining heat, while waterproof and windproof materials help protect against the elements. Additionally, lightweight and quick-drying fabrics are beneficial for comfort during varying weather conditions. Layering with these materials allows for flexibility in adapting to changing temperatures on the trail.

When hiking in wet conditions, it's important to look for clothing that offers waterproof or water-resistant materials to keep you dry. Breathability is also crucial, as it helps regulate body temperature and prevents moisture buildup from sweat. Additionally, features like adjustable hoods, cuffs, and hemlines can provide a better fit and enhance protection against the elements. Insulation may be beneficial for cooler temperatures, ensuring warmth while maintaining comfort during your hike.

To ensure your hiking clothes provide warmth without causing overheating, focus on layering. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer that keeps sweat away from your skin, followed by an insulating layer that traps heat. Choose outer layers that are breathable and can protect against wind and rain while allowing moisture to escape. Additionally, consider materials that offer insulation without excessive bulk, enabling you to adjust your layers as needed based on the temperature and your activity level.

When hiking in fall, it's important to choose clothing that can adapt to changing weather conditions. Lightweight, moisture-wicking base layers help keep you dry, while insulating mid-layers provide warmth during cooler temperatures. Waterproof and windproof outer layers are essential for protection against rain and wind, and versatile pants can offer comfort and flexibility. Additionally, layering allows you to adjust your clothing as temperatures fluctuate throughout the day.

Breathability is essential in fall hiking clothing as it helps regulate body temperature and moisture during physical activity. As temperatures can fluctuate in the fall, breathable fabrics allow sweat to escape while keeping you comfortable. This feature is particularly important when layering, as it prevents overheating and helps maintain a balanced body climate. Choosing breathable materials can enhance your overall hiking experience by ensuring you stay dry and comfortable on the trail.

Insulated hiking apparel is designed to provide warmth in cooler fall temperatures, making it ideal for maintaining body heat during outdoor activities. This type of clothing often features materials that trap heat while still allowing for breathability, which is important for comfort during physical exertion. Non-insulated options, on the other hand, are typically lighter and more versatile, allowing for easier layering and better moisture management. Choosing between insulated and non-insulated apparel depends on the specific weather conditions and personal comfort preferences during fall hikes.

When selecting hiking clothes for comfort during long hikes, consider the fit and layering options. Look for clothing that allows for a full range of motion without being too tight, as this can restrict movement and cause discomfort. Opt for moisture-wicking materials that help keep you dry and comfortable, and consider layering to adjust to changing temperatures. Additionally, ensure that any outer layers are breathable and provide enough room for insulation layers underneath.
