Rating: ★★★★★( 5/5) I recently purchased the North Face 1996 Retro Jacket, and I could n't be happier with my decision! This jacket has truly exceeded my expectations in terms of warmth and comfort. Even in the coldest weather, I stay incredibly cozy without feeling weighed down. The insulation is top- notch, and the quality of the materials is evident. [ I 'm always looking for clothing pieces that I can use in a variety of setting. Th Summit Series Breithorn Hoody fits the bill. It has been worn as a top layer on cool days, and a mid layer under a shell on cold ones. Casual, or working outside, it's a handy piece to have.

Perfect shoes for the winter in MN these days it's- 6F outside. ... perfect winter shoes ... The most important thing is it does n't slip at all when I have to walk on
5
I was an 8 on Adirondack Meridian Hiker and have been using it for winter trips and cold weather walks sonI figured I 'm also an 8 for this. 1st feel is it can be a little tight because of the fur lining inside the shoes itself but I realized the trick is the shoe laces bec my heels are already sliding out when I walk with it so meaning I do n't need a half size larger. I will going to use it for going to and from work when I have to walk on pavements from the car on colder days and excited because its goretex.
5
Perfect shoes for the winter in MN these days it's- 6F outside. It looks a bit bulky but really warm and comfortable. The most important thing is it does n't slip at all when I have to walk on snow/ice. I probably will wear this pair all winter... And my husband loves it too. I bought another pair of bigger size in black color for him.

[[ Employee of marmot] Bought this jacket for a summer trip full of hiking and urban exploring across Norway. This jacket held up and kept me dry through everything that we encountered-- misty, windy, foggy, rainy-- and it fit great layered over a fleece on the colder days. When the pace picked up or we were going uphill, the pit- zips were great additions to help keep me comfortable and prevent overheating. It also packs down super small so it was easy to bring along on every excursion in a daypack just in case it started to rain.

This vest has a nice shape to it that makes it flattering in addition to being functional( a. k. a. oh- so- warm). The quilting pattern is a nice variation from the more basic ones you might find on most pieces like this. And with Patagonia, I know I 'm getting something I can trust to hold up for the long haul!

[ I bought this pair for a backup to a pair I currently use on all my outings in the backcountry where I live. In this part of the country, it can get extreme and in the winter time, we use snowshoes most of the time because of the steep, rugged, and forested area. Flexibility for mobility is necessary for comfortable traveling conditions. The better I feel the farther I can go.

I got this for an upcoming trip to Ireland. I am 5'1 '' and a size 25 waist but I got a size S so I can still wear sweaters underneath. It's so cute and exactly what I was looking for! So far I 've worn it during heavy rain while walking my dog and I stayed completely dry. I like the little flap on the hood so rain does n't get in your face as easily. I like the adjustable waist and hood. I would 've preferred buttons or some other way to secure the front flap as opposed to the velcro but it is n't that big of a deal to me. It feels well made and is warm without making me hot. It does look like a heavier coat because of the insolation but it's pretty light.

[ I bought this in Nov 2020 because I was looking for a lightweight winter jacket that I can wear as my primary jacket. I was worried it would n't be warm enough because it's not down but I can say that for non- active use, you could probably be comfortable in it down to 32 F or so. If you 're outdoors for extended periods of time( e. g. Standing outside for the bus/train, long walks), you might want something a little warmer. But for typical Philly/NYC winters, I think this is great. I also have a Fjallraven parka for when it's colder. If you 're being somewhat active, you could wear this comfortably in even colder temps. It does a good job of insulating the heat you generate from biking, jogging, brisk walking, etc. The fit is perfect for me! I have a long torso for someone my height( 5'8 '') but it's nice and long, so I 'd guess that if you 're tall and skinny, this jacket would be great. For short torso people, it might feel long. The jacket looks great and feels like a great quality product. I hope to wear it for many years!

[ Really a great jacket. Fjallraven is always a great brand to support. I ’ m 5 ’ 11 ” and 190lbs and got a large and it fits great. Bought this recently, a week old review. Shipping was quick and efficient. With regards to the jacket, it keeps you warm and cosy even when there is a gust. Looks a bit handful but performs like a workhorse. The pockets are deep and well- thought positions. The hand pockets with warm liners are cosy when you forgot your gloves. The Hood is padded and adjustable so this eliminates the need for a beanie until unless is heavy gust or snow. There is enough space for both beanie and glove in case you choose to wear them with you along with the jacket. The secret pocket inside the chest is a good place for either mobile, cards, car keys or something valuable. A small elastic compartment in the outer chest pocket is for something like a go- to bag to keep keys secure and have quick access to. Overall build quality is excellent. Being used other fjallraven products longevity of their products is unparalleled. The arm length is a bit larger for me, Please take a measurement of yourself with all the inner layers( i. e- day to day clothing which you might be wearing inside the coat).
5
I am 6'1 '' and weigh 200lbs and the large fits perfect.
5
Just picked one up, feels like it's gon na fill a gap in cold weather gear for future adventures. 5'2 '' 115lb XS fits me surprisingly well!

I was looking for a very warm, every day jacket. I usually buy ski gear type stuff.... something that you need to layer up and stay active to keep warm in. I was finally ready to buy a jacket that I could stay warm in when I was just standing around. After reading some of the reviews I was afraid that this was not the jacket I was looking for. I expected it not to be warm enough. I was wrong. This jacket is super warm. In 23° F with the wind and snow blowing, it's toasty warm with just a t shirt and flannel underneath. The design is awesome too. The hood is nice, there are pockets everywhere, it fits great, not too baggy, not too tight and it feels super durable while looking good for pretty much any occasion. I also tried a Singi wool padded parka thinking the Skogso would n't be warm enough. The Singi is amazingly warm but is overkill for daily wear where I live( our cold days are usually 0° to 25+° F). The Singi would be great for standing around in sub 0°F weather but is too bulky to wear every day for me.

I use this jacket as my daily driver for Ohio winters, where temperatures can sit right around the freezing point or drop into deep freeze throughout a single day. So far it has performed admirably in rain, snow, sleet, and whatever else it might chuck down at us poor midwesterners. I 'd advise picking up some Greenland wax and applying a couple coats at the beginning of winter, it improves an already good wind resistance and makes the G- 1000 practically waterproof. I 've been very impressed and plan to keep the jacket for a very long time. I use the jacket daily for walking the dog in any and all weather, and would n't hesitate to take it snowboarding, winter trekking, or commuting by bike. I did have one issue where the hem cinch stop popped off leaving the flex cord dangling out of the bottom of the jacket, but found it easy to repair since the cord is routed into the inner pockets. I just cut the frayed end and put the stop back on. Looks like it came brand new.

The waterproofing is superior, and blocks the wind well enough. The fabric is comfortable and does n't feel constricting. I 'm 5'2 '', about 130 lbs, with pretty beefy legs and butt. The medium short is definitely roomy, which is what I wanted to allow for layering and freedom of movement. I LOVE that there are options for length. This should be standard in the industry! The leg pockets fit a phone perfectly and have stayed waterproof. The chest pockets are more for sunglasses, chapstick etc, and not a phone, but you should n't have your phone right next to your beacon anyways. The zipper works well enough for peeing. It's a pretty easy process. Overall, this bib is just a great no- nonsense product that does exactly what you need it to do: Keep you dry and comfortable.

These bibs are amazing. You may think you would lose style/fit/quality with bibs, but you will be very pleasantly surprised and eager to hit the slopes and apres activities in your new bibs. There is waist/hip cinching system that you will love! They are extremely comfortable on, will not inhibit any moves and will add value to your day!! I 'm 5'6 '', 127 lbs and have them in small/ short. The length is perfect, but if you are over 5'6 '' and have long legs, go with the regular length.

Finding pants in any outdoor brand is a challenge because sizing is still skewed towards more petite women. I am 5'6, 140 lb, hourglass shaped with a 32D bust, 27 '' waist and 39 '' hips and athletically built thighs. I ordered a medium tall and the 34 '' inseam is actually perfect and just hits the floor without shoes on. Pros: Built- in cinch belt around waist- this is a genius add! High front pocket allows to sit comfortably over the chest while keeping the girls secured and the straps flat over the traps Overall really comfortable pant Cons: Drop seat zipper is only on* one* side. It does not have the dual zippers I was expecting. This feature was why I ultimately went with Mountain Hardwear and I think an added zipper would make this pant 5 stars. Needs more room in the thigh/outer hip area to accommodate for layering and different body types No cinch or snap around the inner boot liner

[ This jacket is of excellent quality. If you want to keep water out and are going to be in cooler temps I highly recommend it. I am using year- round for cost saving with layers or not. If I had the means I would use this only for colder temperatures which I think is what it was designed for.

I absolutely love my new jacket! Just to be cleared... I loved the previous Mt Hardwear jacket I had, but the zipper broke& your co. stood behind their product& gave me a very generous credit, when they could n't fix the original zipper. THIS is why I shop with Mt Hardwear!... Excellent quality& standing behind your product( when it failed after 12 years of HEAVY use).

I just got this jacket, but by first impressions of use... WOW! This thing is exactly what I wanted. I have a shell for warmer days but had to bundle too many layers to stay warm on those cold days. I run very hot while skiing, I get to the bottom and need to strip or open all my layers to not overheat. This jacket gives you breathability while carrying the insulation that keeps you warm on the chair up. Literally the only thing that could be improved is the size of the armpit ventilation. Like I mentioned above I run hot so I would have enjoyed more airflow when I open the vents. But that tiny detail is the only thing I can find at fault and it's more of a personal preference. Bravo Mountain Hardwear!

I love this coat. It is beautiful, warm, and exactly what I was looking for. I have multiple Fjallraven coats, and this is the only one I have had to size down in( XS instead of a S), as it does run pretty large.

You can immediately feel the quality craftsmanship in this piece as soon as you touch it. When in bitter conditions and needing to hunker down, the inner sections cover my mouth and nose and are soft against my face. For a synthetic piece, I was impressed by how much the insulation reminded me of down. It ’s light and warmed up quickly within moments of me having it on. The massive interior drop pockets are awesome and large enough to effortlessly stash my bulky gloves. The hand pockets are deep, so I don ’ t have to worry about fitting my whole hand inside to warm up if I forget gloves. The stretchy wrist cuffs completely seal out drafts, yet I barely notice they are there. This is my preferred jacket on wet winter days.

The description is a bit off. This thing is huge! Quite heavy and very bulky. That said, it ’s by far the warmest jacket I own. I love it. Very warm and cozy. Fantastic belay parka for cold weather. The synthetic insulation is a game changer. No more down feathers pocking through. Very lofty and warm.

LOVE this jacket! I 'm 6'2 and bought XL for extra movement and layering when snowboarding. Pros: The synthetic fill is the best I 've ever felt, I honestly thought it was down fill. I love that it stays warm and holds its lofty puffiness when in wet snow conditions. My other Sitka down jacket loses its loft quickly in the arms and back when I start perspiring from a morning of hiking or snowboarding. But's it's so soft a cozy. I often just wear a t- shirt or thin base layer under it if I 'm just staring around a camp fire. It's very warm and the hand and chin backings are super soft. Cons: My only complaint is that it does n't have a well placed hood draw string for windy conditions. The single draw string on the hood is more a retention string for side to side movement of your head. And the outer fabric is very delicate, I know its gon na snag and tear on a tree branch one of these days.... I personally wish it was a little bit thicker like on my wife's Expedition down jacket.

This jacket is exactly what I 've been looking for. It's crazy comfortable, perfectly warm and not bulky or cumbersome. Perfect for commuting and walking around the city. It snowed this week here and it kept me so warm.

This jacket is very warm. It is the jacket I wear everyday on dog walks and when I go to and from work. It has kept me warm in 40 degree weather down into the 30s and now even into the 20s. It still keeps me warm outside. Now the only thing that is cold are my legs and feet. It also looks very cool. And the medium size is big enough to put a hoodie or sweater on under the jacket. No regrets on buying this jacket.

I ’ m an archaeologist and have been a huge fan of the G1000 style trousers for ten years now. They are expensive but last for years so worth every penny. They can handle climbing barbed wire fences, busting through briars and I get compliments every time I wear them. Love, love these pants and give them five stars for their hardiness, comfort and style. I recommend them to anyone who does physical labor outdoors. You will not be dissapointed.

I bought these pants on a whim and have gotten a ton of use out of them during this chilly Utah winter. I work in sports and often have to look semiprofessional standing on the sidelines in the cold, used them walking the dog, Nordic skiing, and around town! The length is great at 5 10 I ordered the long. The stretch out a little bit after a day of wear but the waist is high enough that have not had any slipping. Highly recommended, I love these pants!!

I am so excited to have found these pants, they 're absolutely perfect for winter trekking and hikes. They are very comfortable and allow for a lot of movement while being durable enough to withstand scapes and such through small brush and rocks and branches. They look well tailored and sleek, and are definitely nice enough to stop somewhere and have a nice lunch in them without looking out of place. The brushed interior is warm on its own, and I have also worn them over the Bergtagen Thinwool Long Johns in- 15 with heavy wind gusts without feeling cold. I 'm 172cm and 52kg and ordered a size 36( EU) with long inseam and they are a fantastic fit.

My qualifications for boots this year were 1. waterproof, 2. comfortable, 3. stylish. I walk to work and needed something that could get me there and back, and something that I could wear the whole day. These did the trick! One note- the first time I wore them, my feet were dry but the backs of my calves were soaked! I was flicking up water when I walked. I tried slowing down, and the 2nd wear did not make my legs wet!

This jacket is my go to for fast and light approaches, summit pushes, rainy day runs, the ski resort or around town because of it's clean look. It seriously can handle any weather conditions and is super light so you hardly notice it in your pack or on your back. I love the backpack compatible zippers, but wish there was an extra internal chest pocket. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

I used this coat as a great shell layer while climbing the Grand Teton and I would n't wish for anything else! It was perfect!

This shell has proven a perfect addition to time in the elements where protection is critical and weight is a factor. I have used this on a several volcano ski missions this past summer and spring. It packs light and provides the summit protection needed when wind is ripping and body temps are dropping. Marmot allotted a good amount of pockets without going overboard and the pit zips provide ventilation that allows you to tune your protection on the move without having to stop to layer up or down. When it comes to rain protection, it's hard to beat Gore. It also vents well for active pursuits.

light weight, durable, breathable, and totally waterproof
When selecting winter hiking gear, prioritize insulation to retain body heat while remaining lightweight. Look for waterproof and breathable materials to keep you dry from snow and moisture, as well as features like adjustable hoods and cuffs for a customizable fit. Additionally, consider footwear with good traction and insulation to navigate icy trails comfortably. Finally, ensure that your gear allows for layering, which helps regulate temperature during varying activity levels.
Choosing the right size for winter hiking clothing involves considering both fit and layering. Start by measuring your chest, waist, and hips to find your size according to the brand's sizing chart. It's important to account for base layers, so opt for a slightly looser fit to allow for movement and insulation. Additionally, consider the type of activities you'll be doing, as some may require more flexibility or room for additional layers.
For winter hiking gear, materials that provide effective insulation include down and synthetic fibers. Down insulation is lightweight and compressible, offering excellent warmth-to-weight ratios, while synthetic materials retain heat even when wet and dry quickly. Additionally, fleece is often used for layering due to its breathability and warmth. When selecting insulation, consider the balance between warmth, weight, and moisture management for optimal comfort during winter hikes.
When hiking in winter conditions, it is important to choose footwear that offers insulation, waterproofing, and good traction. Look for boots designed specifically for cold weather, as they often feature materials that help retain warmth while keeping your feet dry. Additionally, footwear with a rugged outsole can provide better grip on icy or snowy terrain, enhancing stability and comfort during your hike. Many options also include features like higher ankle support to protect against snow and debris.
Layering for winter hiking outfits involves wearing multiple clothing layers to manage temperature and moisture effectively. The base layer, typically made from moisture-wicking materials, helps keep sweat away from the skin. The middle layer provides insulation to retain body heat, while the outer layer protects against wind, rain, and snow. This system allows hikers to adjust their clothing based on changing weather conditions and activity levels, ensuring comfort throughout the hike.
Insulated winter hiking gear is designed to provide warmth by trapping body heat, making it suitable for colder conditions. This type of gear often features materials like down or synthetic insulation, which help maintain comfort during extended outdoor activities in low temperatures. Non-insulated gear, on the other hand, focuses on breathability and moisture management, making it ideal for milder winter conditions or for those who generate a lot of body heat while hiking. Choosing between the two depends on the specific weather conditions and personal comfort preferences during winter hikes.
To ensure your winter hiking gear is waterproof, look for products made with waterproof materials or technologies that provide a barrier against moisture. Check for features like sealed seams and waterproof zippers, which enhance the overall protection from the elements. Additionally, consider items that have a durable water repellent (DWR) finish, as this helps water bead up and roll off the surface. Regularly maintaining and reapplying DWR treatments can also help keep your gear effective over time.
When selecting winter hiking accessories, consider the weather conditions and temperature to ensure you choose items that provide adequate insulation and protection from the elements. Look for materials that offer moisture-wicking properties to keep you dry and comfortable during your hike. Additionally, prioritize accessories that enhance visibility and warmth, such as hats, gloves, and gaiters, to help you stay safe and comfortable on the trail. Finally, ensure that your footwear is suitable for winter conditions, providing traction and support on potentially slippery surfaces.
Temperature and weather conditions play a crucial role in selecting winter hiking gear. Colder temperatures require insulation to retain body heat, while wet or snowy conditions necessitate waterproof materials to keep you dry. Additionally, wind resistance is important in harsh weather, so gear that offers protection against wind chill is beneficial. Layering is often recommended to adapt to changing conditions, allowing you to add or remove clothing as needed for comfort.
To maintain winter hiking gear, it is important to clean and dry items after each use to prevent moisture buildup and odor. Store gear in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, to avoid damage from heat and UV rays. Regularly check for any signs of wear or damage, and repair or replace items as needed to ensure optimal performance. Additionally, follow specific care instructions for materials to preserve their functionality and longevity.
