The fit of this shoe is true to size, which I really appreciate. As a larger guy, I typically wear through inserts quickly, and by the end of the day, my feet often ache. However, I ’ ve been wearing these shoes consistently for the past three weeks, and I can genuinely feel the difference. The combination of the high- quality inserts and cushioned sole provides a noticeable level of comfort that lasts all day. Highly recommend!

I 'm an avid runner getting about 20- 25 miles per week over three runs. I spend as much time as I can on the trail. I started with the Timp for a few seasons, then progressed to the Mount Blanc and always avoided the Olympus because it just looked like it would be too unstable and heavy. I was really surprised with the firmness and stability of the cushioning, and compared to the Mount Blanc there is little to no heel movement. My feet also feel much more protected with this upper versus the Mount Blanc. That said they are a bit heavier, but nothing too noticeable. On the downhill I feel like I can press on the gas with more control. I 'd recommend giving them a try!

Trent
[ Altra sent me these shoes to try for free, and I 've since put 35- 40 miles on with them. In that time, I 've taken them through all sort of off road terrains: gravel, grassed trails, mulched trails, sandy beaches, and sand dunes. These shoes have conquered them all with ease. I have wide feet and these shoes feature a wider toe box that is hands down the most comfortable running experience I 've had- especially without a lengthy break- in period. Usually, it takes me about 20- 30 miles to break in a shoe to the point where I can run in them for more than a mile without pressure points. I never had that issues with these shoes! I thought the extended sole would change my stride, or create a different impact point on my foot, but I really have n't noticed. But, I would definitely say it adds additional stability to the shoe while on uneven terrain. I would n't say that they 're a shoes I would wear going up a extremely technical course, but they can handle a heck of a lot more than a flat land run. I ca n't comment to much on the durability of the shoe, but I see no red flags yet. I 'm looking forward to putting more miles on these beauties! Could n't recommend them enough; especially for folks with wide feet.

Nate
[ I have used these shoes for trail running and hiking as well. My feet were comfortable for everything but the down hill parts and that was because I got a half size too small. Just make sure to get a size with a little extra room so that your toes do n't get cramped when you are going down hill. Overall, I would definitely recommend these shoes! ALTRA gave me this free product to try.

[ Cushioned in all the right places. Trying out the new Altra Olympus 6 trail shoes. They offer great support and traction on the trails. No hot spots, the right amount of cushion and support. I liked the heal cushion support to keep the heel locked in on the up hills. I also love the toe guard that blocks the direct hits from rocks on the toes. I have a bunion on my right foot, so this toe shape box is perfect for those with wide feet. I 'd highly recommend these for anyone looking for more support on those long trail runs. Even though there is more cushion, I did n't feel that they were heavy or slowing me down. The longest run I 've done on them is 7 miles, and average about 9: 14/mile, on dry dirt single track trails in Forest Park, Oregon. Traction was good on loose gravel and rocks. The extra cushion absorbrs those sharp rocks. ALTRA gave me this free product to try.

Mike
[ The new Olympus 6 is comfort right out of the box with little to no break in time. The Vibram sole provides great traction on dirt trails, rocks and wet rocks at river crossings. The cushioned midsole provides the right blend of comfort, cushion and the ability to feel the trail under your feet. Combine those with a secure heal cup and a comfortable lining inside and I was able to backpack 16 miles days in comfort with no break in time. The only problem I had was on the left shoe. The side of the shoe did hit the bottom of my ankle bone. It's a problem that I have with many shoes that most people do n't seem to have so do n't let it stop you from trying the new Olympus 6. Altra did give me this shoe to try but that does not affect my review.

[ I have been using the Altra Olympus 6 for hiking, running, and fastpacking. This is my first time trying a full- cushion trail shoe, but I have been road running in the Altra Torin for about 6 years. After about 25 miles of mixed terrain, weather and landscapes, I feel this shoe excels in climbing and tackling dry, loose terrain. I felt stable and powerful sprinting up sandy hillsides and dusty singletrack. The shoe absorbs the impact of large gravel, and bites into turns well. I slid around a bit on large wet roots and slick rocks under the stiff midfoot but recovered quickly and happily traded that for the protection from sharp obstacles. The high stack kept my feet dry when encountering mud and puddles, while the well ventilated upper kept me comfortable on long, hot days. The contoured form around the Achilles took a little getting used to, but it worked to lock my heel on ascents; no hot spots. Laces stay tied. Altra gave me this free product to try, and I 'm looking forward to putting many more miles on it.

[ Hi! This is a review from a trail runner who prefers ground feel and minimal stack height! I 've also completed several trail ultras and marathons( trail and road) in minimal footwear. I wanted to see how this particular max cushion, high stack zero drop shoe would perform and provide comfort given an injured left heal. I have also worked in run specialty shops. I was so happy to be selected to test the Altra Olympus 6 with my particular preferences. I gave this model 5- Stars because I would and will absolutely continue to rotate this model on training runs. Especially on buffed trails, for hill repeats, hikes and any time I 'm feeling like I want a bit more cushion than I prefer. I would recommend this model over other high stack, max cushion models/brands bc of its responsiveness. Sizing and On Foot Feel: I requested a size 8. I am still torn if I would have felt even more secure and comfortable in a 7. 5. Regardless of that, I love how they feel around the midfoot, feel secure. I just would like to get them a little more snug around the midfoot, hence why I think a 7. 5 would have been perfect. Of course, I love the ample toe box space, so my toes can fully splay, but at the same time not getting smashed into the front of the shoe when going downhill. I should also mention the heel feels pretty secure as well, not too tight, but not loose, either. Under Foot Feel and Performance: This shoe is responsive and not over the top bulky. The cushioning is comfortable without being too `` squishy ''. I think that, not too squishy feel, helps reduce the perception of being on such a thick stack. Which I was concerned about b/c I though I 'd feel `` wobbly '' or have a sensation of slipping off the foot- bed. I did n't get that sensation, and that was a big positive! Activities I Tested the Olympus with: Walks with the dog, hikes, runs, hill repeats, and even a morning of race timing. Surface tested on; Trails that transition quickly between buffed and bEAST Coasty( rocks, roots, boulders). Hill repeats on a look out access road; transitions between asphalt and crushed stone surfaces. What I Enjoyed Most: I LOVED the performance of the shoes during hill repeats; security around mid- foot and the cushion for the downhill abuse on the soles of the feet. I will keep using them on those days. As well as for longer trail run days at a local nature preserve surrounded by miles and miles trails of every kind of surface.( ALTRA gave me this free product to try.)

Just breaking in my Montrail Trinity AG Trail Shoes. Out of the box, this shoe checks all the boxes. The seamless mesh upper and overlays bode well for comfort and longevity. After sliding them on, literally, easy entry and hugged my foot( Navic Foot System). It's the little things about this shoe that I appreciate. As an middle aged runner, easy on and easy off is appreciated. The laces are not your typical lace, made with some stretch that again makes for an easy comfortable fit. Nice cushioning on the ankle as well. The Trinity has a 8mm drop with 32mm/24mm stack and form me that worked perfectly. First two runs were in soggy spring conditions with a mix of gravel and single track. The 4mm lugs grip well and gave me confidence on the downhills even on that ever tricky wet Ohio clay. Did n't notice the lugs other than their grip which is complimented by the outsole( Adapt Trax), which is a good thing! The ride was smooth and responsive( Techlite+Dual Density Midsole), you DO N'T get the feeling of riding too high that leads to a loss of stability and performance like I 've felt in other max cushioned shoes. The Trinity has married cushion and performance seamlessly. I was able to glide along on the flats as well as take the sharp turns with confidence then bomb the downhills. I had this slight forward propulsion feeling that is always welcome, that comes from the Tech( Adaptive Guidance Pebex Plate) that also does the job taking on heavier rocks and roots. Bottom line these shoes are exactly what I 've been lookin for in a trail shoe. Looking forward to the next 500 miles in these bad boys!

I ’ ve had 6 of the 7 generations of TGs, as well as a few of the Vapor Gloves. If you ’ ve never had a minimalist shoe, they are fantastic, but definitely go with Trail before Vapor. This is also good advice to anyone running on harsh trails or loose rocks. These TGs have a lot of absorption, considering the sole thickness. Also, they tell you that the shoes run large, but I would only size up if you have wide feet! If you have normal to narrow feet, I ’ d recommend sticking to size and knowing that they should feel a bit “ sock- like ” without generating any significant toe friction. I just started using them so I can not comment on the quality. I can say that I ’ ve used many categories of Merrell shoes and boots, and with the exception of one single pair of TGs( gen3, I believe), the build quality has been solid.

[ I got these for my son who started running recently. He is hoping to make the running and basketball teams at school. His old shoes were uncomfortable and hurt his feet after a run. I ordered a size up like recommended on the sizing chart and they fit perfectly. While looking at running shoes Brooks comes up as a great choice and I have to agree. They are comfortable with good padding and are so light you won ’ t believe it. The Caldera 8 hold the foot and helps maintain a good stride while feeling solid. Your foot doesn ’ t feel like it ’s going to off the sides. It has nice padding to make your feet comfortable while not sliding into the toe. My son is so relieved to have the pain from running anymore. They are holding up great so far and seem very well made.

[ The Caldera 8 trail shoes might become my new go to for short to intermediate trail runs( 5- 10K). Time will tell because I 'm not going on many bonafide trail runs since it's winter here in Colorado. The overall stability of the shoe along with the reinforced, super knobby soles made it really comfortable and secure for trails ranging from gravel to rocky/rooted mountain trails. The fit was true, but a bit snug, which seem to be common for the trail runners I own. The shoe is really light given the wide base, thick sole, and as advertised, the most cushioning that Brooks has to offer. I 'm glad they include a heel pull tab, which makes it easier to pull on the shoe if you are using a thicker sock for colder runs. I 've never had trail runners with this thick of a midsole or raised sidewalls but my feet and running stride easily adapted to this shoe, no break- in time required... I just ran out the door without any problems. With so much sidewall and the toe cap, the design of the shoe does n't look flexible, but it surprisingly is. The mesh breathable upper was easy to clean off mud, thorns, etc and you ca n't go wrong with black, gray and white for a mens shoe. I would n't change anything about the Caldera 8, every feature has it's purpose for trail runs, but wearers should be aware... when I wore these shoes for casual, daily outings, I had to be aware of the sticky lugs on the soles: `` TrailTack green '' rubber Brooks calls them- they 're great for traction where you need sure- footing but the grippy soles can get caught on cracks, carpets, even your gas pedal, if you are n't expecting it.

Bought a pair of crazy electric orange Speedgoat 5's last year, and they were a bit too wild. Comfortable, but wild. These Stinson 7's are just what the doctor ordered, and go great with my Longhorn apparel. No self- respecting Aggie will ever wear these. Hook 'em.

Gifted these to a friend. Friend loves them and raves about how they are so supportive and cushiony. Slightly wide shoe and runs slightly big as I 'm told

I have never seen trail shoes that ’s advertised for stability. But this not a mere trail shoe, it does it all. The H Frame technology is incredible, delivering stability and comfort.

I can walk and run for miles and no issues. ... I thought I 'd hate them but they make me feel all sporty!! ... Plenty of cushion but still feel stable. ... They are the coolest black and carbon fiber gray with the white puffy

I was looking for a sneaker to wear for refereeing Football this fall. These are very comfortable and have enough grip to be active on the field.

[ These shoes are a 10 out of 10 for me. They fit true to size and are made of a comfortable and breathable fabric. They are a little tighter around the ankles than a typical shoe, but for running is offers stability and support that I appreciate. For trail running in particular, it is even better because I do n't fear rolling my ankle. The design is very cutesy without sacrificing stability, although I would have preferred darker colors as these will stain very quickly. The soles seem to be pretty thick which suprised me at first but I quickly found that was a benefit. When moving up hills, the shoe itself almost seemed to rock on the soles and help me up the hills easier. There is not much I would change about the Caldera 8. My only( small) issue is how big they seem, but they are for running not for fashion so they get the job done. I would recommend these to any trail runner, from beginner to experts.

[ Enjoying taking runs in my neighborhood with my kids. We run a few miles a week and the shoes have been very comfortable and lightweight. Once I tried on the shoes they fit like a glove. The design is trendy and I love the bright colors. The fabric is top quality very soft and durable. I love that I did not have to break in the shoes like most shoes. One thing I would change is maybe the sole design.

[ The Caldera 8s are a great athletic shoe overall for walking, hiking, and running errands. The shoes grip extremely well. You can hear the traction from the tread as you walk, which is great for hiking and cold weather in New England. They are also comfortable and feel well cushioned, with the wider heel feeling like it ’s helping propel me forward. The shoes fit true to size. I ’ m a true 9. 5 and the 9. 5 fit comfortably with enough room in the toes without being too big. They might feel a little snug out of the box for those who have wide feet because of the no tongue design. They are very breathable, which I confirmed with the cold air that I could feel through the top fabric. My feet sweat so the breathability is a must. I haven ’ t gotten them wet yet, but I expect that the fabric would dry quickly. I love the overall design of the shoe as well, with the neon colors making them pop. The neon is perfect for trail hiking, especially to stand out among the brown, dry leaves. They are also comfortable enough and flattering enough to wear for a walk into the office.

These are way more comfortable and cushioned than the other trail running shoes, they have excellent traction. ... Very comfortable and supportive. ... I wish they made my foot look less clunky but I 'll take comfort and no slips over looking like a pretty girl on the

Calderas are the best addition to the Brooks family. Cushion, but not excessive.

[ I 've been using these shoes as my off- road runners and hiking shoes since I received them, and they 're excellent. They 're lightweight, fit snugly, and have great traction. In the rocky AZ terrain, I had sure footing. I did n't find there to be a breaking in period, either, which is unusual. I had no blisters or hot spots on my usual spots: my heels and toes. They were breathable, too, so my feet did n't get too hot. I highly recommend.

[ This is my first time trying Brooks shoes, and I 've never worn a running shoe quite like this one. It is extremely light& cushiony and feels like I 'm walking on clouds, yet the wide base offers a great amount of stability and grip. The shoe also provides great foot and arch support. I used the Caldera 7s both on dirt trails and climbing rocks, and the soles seem to conform and adjust to different types of surfaces which helps relieve pressure on my joints. Although they are trail- running shoes, I would wear them for everyday walking or standing because they 're that supportive and comfy. They run true to size- I am a size 10 in Women's, and they fit perfectly. The mesh fabric is breathable, and I 'm impressed that Brooks uses recycled materials for their shoes. The bold design of the Caldera 7 is n't quite what I would typically wear, but the shoes look great on, and the colors are very eye- catching. My podiatrist recommended Brooks shoes a while back, and I can now see why. I 'm a new fan!

[ I have to rave about the Brooks Caldera 7's for a moment! Initially, when I received them I was skeptical about the height of the sole because even though I 'd consider myself an athlete, I am also a clutz. I 'm stoked to say that I have had zero issues with the height and I absolutely LOVE the extra cushion these shoes provide, while being very light weight! I 've never had a shoe that feels like it's providing great spring for your next step, but these definitely do.( I had a botched foot surgery, so I am VERY selective on shoes.) I know these are technically a trail runner, but they have become my everyday shoe as a Midwesterner in this frigid winter weather. The Caldera 7's have provided much comfort on slick, icy parking lots and sidewalks because the grip is out of this world. They have also been a fantastic shoe for booking it through the airport quickly! I 'm excited to see what Brooks next color ways will be for this shoe. The ones I have are a fun pop of color for this dreary winter!( For reference, I have a more narrow foot.)

[ This pair of Caldera 7 running shoes by Brooks is my new favorite. It provides very good traction and support to my feet and it makes long runs less difficult and more fun. There are a lot of details on it which I like very much especially the elastic to fix the shoelaces to make them less likely to loose. The shoes are very supportive with nitrogen filled but still keep the stability. It works perfectly on both path and off road.
When selecting durable trail running shoes, consider features such as a robust outsole for traction, a reinforced upper for protection against debris, and a cushioned midsole for comfort over long distances. Additionally, look for water-resistant materials if you plan to run in wet conditions, as well as breathability to keep your feet cool.
To find the right fit for trail running shoes, ensure there is enough room in the toe box to accommodate foot movement during runs. It's also important to try on shoes with the socks you plan to wear while running, and to consider the shoe's overall snugness around the midfoot and heel to prevent slippage.
Durable trail running shoes are designed to handle a variety of terrains, including rocky paths, muddy trails, and uneven surfaces. Their sturdy construction and specialized outsoles provide the necessary grip and support for navigating challenging landscapes, making them ideal for both technical and smooth trails.
Yes, materials such as synthetic meshes, reinforced rubber, and high-abrasion textiles are commonly used to enhance the durability of trail running shoes. These materials not only withstand wear and tear from rugged trails but also provide protection against elements like water and mud.
To determine if your trail running shoes are suitable for long-distance runs, check for features like adequate cushioning, support, and a comfortable fit.
