If money is no object than get yourself a catfish series Abu, if money is tight this reel will work well if you are familiar with using baitcasting reels. Bought this reel for a black Friday event in 2018 and have used this reel on an ugly stick catfish rod and I 'm very impressed with it. The only things I had to do is break the reel down and re- oil it and change the line on the reel but I always re- oil my reels before using for the 1st time. We have a pair of these in the rocket tubes for Northeast striper fishing. They are on Ugly Stik 6. 5' Tiger Elites. The reel is strong, big crank, the level winder is strong enough for 40# plus stripers and its one less thing to worry about when you are hooked up with a big bass. Plenty of drag and they hold a lot of braid( we use 30 pound Spiderwire). Just make sure you wash them well, they are not saltwater sealed as good as others. Great reels. I have 2 and am shopping for another. Wo n't buy it here because they do not have the higher gear ratio in the left hand retrieve model. Only 4 stars because it comes with combat grips instead of Winn knobs. But, I have swapped the combat grips for Winn round knobs. I even contacted Lew's and was able to get black and gold end caps for the knobs. I have one on a TP1 Black and the other on a Custom Lite. The reels cast great, the retrieve is smooth, and they are strong. And, they look good too. Get one today.

Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. Purchased this reel a few weeks ago and finally got to use it today. pulled in a 8 pound 26 inch channel catfish with ease. The clicker is awesome, i was standing 20- 30 feet away and herd it over the noise from the rapids. I do n't know why anyone would give this reel a bad review other then the fact that they do n't know how to use a bait caster. I used the 15# line that came with it and a 3/4 ounce sinker, it cast great.

I 've owned quite a few Zeb co reels over the last 40 years and they are an affordable and consistent performer. I rarely lose a fish because of the reel. They 're easy to use and fun. And this is the best I 've ever used. It's nearly silent. The drag action is smooth as silk and the retrieve is just as good. Gone is the loud ratcheting sound when a fish puts on a fight. If you like that, then grab the Authentic 33. It will sound like you expect, but this is silent and buttery smooth. Zeb co makes much more expensive reels, loaded up with quality bearings. But unless you 're making a living on a boat, this should be plenty. I go fishing every weekend with my sons and I 've caught dozens of fish on this. I have used okuma in the past with good results. The only things wrong with this one are the foregrip is n't triangular as the description says as well as the reel isnt gold colored as in the picture. A nice surprise was that the rod tip is orange which will make it easier to see on those early morning and late night trips.
