Great product for the money. No issues with jamming so far. Casts well and the clicker is great. If money is no object than get yourself a catfish series Abu, if money is tight this reel will work well if you are familiar with using baitcasting reels. If you 're going for bigger cats you might consider changing the line.

Bought this reel for a black Friday event in 2018 and have used this reel on an ugly stick catfish rod and I 'm very impressed with it. The only things I had to do is break the reel down and re- oil it and change the line on the reel but I always re- oil my reels before using for the 1st time. I highly recommend this reel for the price. I restrung this reel with 65 lb braid and it's held up great but always back it with good mono line.

Great reels. I have 2 and am shopping for another. Wo n't buy it here because they do not have the higher gear ratio in the left hand retrieve model. Only 4 stars because it comes with combat grips instead of Winn knobs. But, I have swapped the combat grips for Winn round knobs. I even contacted Lew's and was able to get black and gold end caps for the knobs. I have one on a TP1 Black and the other on a Custom Lite. The reels cast great, the retrieve is smooth, and they are strong. And, they look good too. Get one today.

The reel is strong, big crank, the level winder is strong enough for 40# plus stripers and its one less thing to worry about when you are hooked up with a big bass. Plenty of drag and they hold a lot of braid( we use 30 pound Spiderwire). Just make sure you wash them well, they are not saltwater sealed as good as others. Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. I recently picked up my first Shimano Reel ever!!! BTR4000OC is the one I chose to go with for the option of having the ability to allow bait to run freely with out having to keep a bail flipped open. I like the freespool feature on my Penn Rival with clicker for this purpose as well. But I wanted a spinning reel and my local DSG did not have any Penn LL's in stock in store. I had toyed with the Shimano's many times in store but always walked away from them... Not because I did n't know the name, but just because of my love of Penns.. Anyhow back to the reel, I mated this reel to a 7' Berkley Lightning HD 1 piece rod with 14lb Cajun Mono backing and 30lb Sufix 832 Advanced. I took this combo out to the Apollo Beach park the next morning and caught a nice little red snapper on live bait. Then the next day the reel got the real test, I was jigging soft plastics with 15 lb flouro leader when I hooked into a good sized snook just above slot. This reel handled the snook like a dream, did not wear me out before wearing down the fish. I was able to land this snook but was unable to capture a picture as I was out in the water wading with out a camera. I do recommend this reel, will be purchasing the 8000 series to replace my worn out reel on my surf rod!

Purchased this reel a few weeks ago and finally got to use it today. pulled in a 8 pound 26 inch channel catfish with ease. The clicker is awesome, i was standing 20- 30 feet away and herd it over the noise from the rapids. I do n't know why anyone would give this reel a bad review other then the fact that they do n't know how to use a bait caster. I used the 15# line that came with it and a 3/4 ounce sinker, it cast great.

I purchased this reel primarily for the size. I like a big reel for the grip and significant ease in retrieval when I have a real angry 25- 30 lb salmon fighting me. Summation, I bank fish 75% of the time. Overall, a nice, smooth, and great casting reel. I am going to give this a shot on steelhead soon. Ya it's like towing a 2 door Nissan car using a Semi truck. Due to its size it takes just a pinch of time to dial the reel in to cast& retreive. Compared to my Okuma Ceymar C65 the Penn is just a bit better in my very large hands. I am going to buy the Penn Penn Battle III BTL II 8000 in a week. Any suggestions are welcome.

Good, lightweight and strong reel in the 3000 to 4000 size. The slow oscillation level line feature lays braided line on the spool very evenly and makes it great for long casting. Pair with a medium to moderate 6' 8 '' to 7' 6 '' inshore rod with micro- guides and you have a lightweight, sensitive, long casting setup!
