[ I bought the 2x dry smoke maxim a couple weeks ago, and I absolutely love it. its been used on 6- 10 climbs since I bought it, and its extremely durable, it was dragged up a lot of sharp rock with no fuzz forming on the outer sheath. also for me its the perfect stiffness. I would recommend getting it if you want a super nice workhorse rope.

5 Bill
[ I used this rope for the first time yesterday on a granite low- angle slab. The twill weave of the sheath makes for a very `` slippery '' feel, and it slithered off of every sloping ledge we belayed on! It just wanted to slide downhill. A good thing, actually, as it handles well and always came down fully when pulled down after rappelling. A confidence- inspiring rope!

4 Charlie
[ This rope lasted a good while getting beat up on roof climbs in NC. Maxim's sheath design is unique and performed well over its use. The 9. 9mm version of this rope does n't do a great job getting through a gri gri, but it will still look brand new after working your project all day. I would recommend this rope to be your long day multi- pitch and work horse rope that can take a beating.

[ Incredible handling and climbing right out of the package with minimal coil. Superior handling to any rope I 've used before( Petzl, BD, Mammut, etc.). Even with the double dry coating, the rope is still super subtle and handles as though there's no coating on it at all.

5 Valdet
Nice length, thickness and overall a great rope! Good middle mark.

5 Sami
[ This is the best rope I have used for sport climbing thus far. For my upcoming climbing trip to Spain, I was looking for a new rope that would have minimal drag and high durability while also being conducive to light handling( both for clipping and belaying) and soft catches; this rope meets all of those requirements. As soon as you take it out of the package, you can use it immediately without needing to flake it. The rope is lightweight, which makes it easy to clip, and dirt does not adhere to it easily due to the smooth sheath. At 9. 5mm, this rope handles much more nicely than thicker ropes when using a grigri. The diameter is perfect and makes the rope lighter without sacrificing safety; I tried it on rock with some really sharp flakes and edges in NH, and never felt unsafe. Falling on it felt great as well. As an additional bonus, the orange color is striking and stands out on the wall.

5 A fish
[ This big rope is very beautiful, the perfect weight, it is my perfect protection in the climbing process, there is a certain amount of stretch, in use is very safe

5 Chainsaw
[ I just purchased this rope for the second time. It is light, easy to clip, feeds nicely. For not being bi- pattern, the middle mark stays visible for a suprisingly long time.

5 Weston
[ You could n't pay me to switch ropes. This is one beautiful, high- quality rope that leaves all the climbers that have seen it in awe. I bought this rope because it was one of the highest recommended ropes on the internet. I have been out at the New River Gorge in West Virginia with it and it performed amazing. It is a 9. 5mm so it fits perfectly within the three star rating for the GriGri 2 and the GriGri+. This rope feeds SMOOTH. I use the GriGri+ and man, I have had so many people comment about how great the rope feeds through the belay devices. It gives the perfect amount of smooth without sacrificing safety. I gave the 4 stars on durability because I have n't had the rope for long so I just do n't know it's durability. It also is a bit smaller so naturally there will be more wear, quicker on the rope. I will say there is a little bit of a marketing error. The gold rope color is definitely gold with black dots within it. It's NOT brown/black with some gold in it. I 've included a picture of me climbing with it where you can actively see that the color, even from afar.

[ THis is a solid rope. Handles pretty well and is reasonably durable so far. I got the bipattern and am glad I did, as it makes rapping much easier.

5 gnar
[ The rope is smooth and supple, very easy to handle. It runs smoothly through the belay devices without feeling too thin. It does easily absorb moister from the ground, so a tarp is recommended

5 Ggavitt
[ Great looking rope, I ’ ve gotten a few complements about the colors. It feeds well through all of my belay devices, and seems like it is good quality and durable.

5 Flyingstar
[ We bought it a month and really enjoy climbing with it for single and multi pitch. The bi pattern is great for quickly locating the middle. Would buy another.

[ This rope feels great when belaying and when setting anchors, lead climbing, etc. the sheath on the rope has been durable in my use. My use has mainly been lead climbing on easy to moderate routes and top roping with my kids.

5 Jdimango
[ This rope is light weight, rarely tangles, nice in a grigri( doesnt slip) and easy to clean. We bought the black variant because we have the orange 60 meter but I suggest them both theyre sick

5 Nick
[ This rope is really good at staying clean while at the crags. My friends nicknamed it `` sexy '' because of the nice feel and sleek look. Also, blood blends in with the colors of the black/white/red rope, which is a plus.

5 Kpat
[ Great rope- handles very well, nice middle mark, good stretch; not a top of the line rope for serious redpoint burns but versatile and a great work horse

5 Gabriel R.
I 'm loving this rope. I have n't died so that's good! It also does n't get caught in a grigri and I get tons of compliments on the color.

5 William F
Great all around rope. I ’ ve used this for sport climbing, trad, indoor, outdoor, multi pitch, mountaineering. It ’s great all around. I ’ ve put this rope thru the ringer and it ’s held up great! On the thicker and heavier side, but it is a 9. 9 70m.

Excellent rope feels good with an excellent ‘ hand. ’ The bright green shows well against the rock and wears well with limited abrasion. Love it!

5 Ken H.
This is my third BD 9. 4 Dry, not because they wear out or need replaced for some reason, but because I have them in different lengths because they 're the best rope I 've ever used! This time I got the 40m because my local crags here in PA are only 18m so it's perfect- very little rope laying on the ground and lighter to back in and out! What a great idea BD to make this 40m rope! I LOVE it!!! Thanks!

5 Joe D.
This rope is ready to roll right from the box with minimal break in needed. It ’s durable and coil ’s easily. I bought the bd rope marker after reading reviews that the mid mark wears quickly but my mid mark is still clearly visible after 15 to 20 uses( trad mp climbing) in mostly dry conditions. Planning to use this for ice climbing as well. Great rope!

5 Sterling W.
This rope is exactly what a rope should be. Not too thick or thin and dry treated so I can use it on ice or snow in the winter!

5 Matt W.

[ Just got back from the gunks, first trip with this rope. It ’s great! Don ’ t think I ’ ve ever had a smoother rapp. And I love the weird color scheme that comes from using leftover material from making other ropes.

5 Schoendigger
[ In the month I ’ ve had this rope I have never had an issue with pigtails! It ’s also super easy to coil and flake too! I will definitely be buying this in different lengths!

5 cocobeanclimber
[ I purchased this rope a few months ago. I love the diameter, slim but not flimsy. I bought a 70m to suffice on multi pitch routes and so far I ’ m nothing but impressed. Catches whips like a dream, not too much stretch. Highly recommend! Wouldn ’ t recommend if you ’ re a sucker for colors, mine kinda looks like vomit, but I figure it ’ ll get dirty and nasty eventually anyway.

5 Nico1
[ Despite the fact that this rope is constructed of recycled ropes, it is a truly solid dynamic climbing rope, but still easy to manipulate/flake. The color scheme is awesome( to me, may not be to someone who likes more uniform color), and the price is right.

5 Shaun
[ Only climbed a couple times on it, but it's smooth and looks great so far. I can add more after I 've used it longer, but I 'm still writing because of the minimum character requirement.

[ This is my go to rope for trad climbing. Make sure you get two different colors for half ropes so rope management is easier on meandering routes.

5 bittergourd
[ For glacier travel for 2 parties, this is the perfect size and width for the rope. Quite lightweight. And also a great rope to practice hauling systems.

5 christopher I
My favorite ropes to climb on are Mammut, great durability and dry treatment.

5 Zoe N
These are great ropes! I use mine for ice climbing, it is my second season climbing with them and they are still in great shape and still dry. I love that they are balanced in sturdiness and being not too heavy. I really enjoy using double ropes since it splits the weight to carry between the climbing party. I have found that if you are not cautious they can wrap into knots quite quickly but this is something that has happened to me with most ropes!

[ Pros: awesome, noticeable color at the crag. Dry treatment. stretch is minimal, making my friends really enjoy using this rope. Cons: the diameter seems a little small for a 9. 8 mm rope. This rope handles great through both my grigri and other tubular devices like ATC and Megajul. Gives super soft catches to both leader and follower/top- rope. Super cool color too. The smallest nit I have is that the middle marker fades away a bit easily.

I really like this rope. I have the duodess color version but non the less the rope incredible. It has a great texture and feel to the hand and it's super easy to manipulate to tie into anything. Taking whips on it is super nice and soft not matter how the belayer belays. Since I have the duodess version half the rope is a candy cane pattern while the other is speckled so it's super easy to tell which side you using when on top rope and when multi- pitching it helps keep the rope nice and tidy when all belaying from top.

I highly recommend these if you are looking to go fast and light and want the high quality that Mammut is know for.

5 Olivier V
Handle well, light, bright color. Perfect rope for your project!

5 Casey S
This is my go- to rope for anything in the alpine. From 5th class rock to glacier travel I have used this rope extensively in a variety of terrain. The bright orange is a great contrasting color. Despite its small diameter is very durable and has survived many crampons and sharp rock edges over the past year.

5 kenneth D
No frays on this rope while ice climbing this year. I 'm sure it got stepped it on, dragged numerous times, and brushed up on the many pointy things needed for ice climbing. Overall very happy with it.

5 derrick V
Rope handles well, does n't pig tail has a middle marker for now. Treated me very well last ice season on over 30 days out.

I bought this about a month ago to use for setting up anchors on trad climbs and for top rope. I had never used Cordelette before, however, I find it extremely easy to equalize with 3 or 4 points. I was a little nervous when I first saw how small this product was, but after setting anchors and climbing on them I am really impressed with it. I would and have already trusted my life to this product. A+.

5 Captainhack
[ This rope is so small compact and strong perfect for anchors it's crazy how small and strong it is but do n't under estimate its strength and make sure you tie proper knots since this is a technical cord

5 outdoortim
[ I bought this rope to use as a cordelette for building anchors at the top of trad climbs. It works really well and has excellent strength rating. I found the rope a little bit stiff when I first got it but it softened up with some usage. BTW I turned this rope into a cordelette by tying the ends together in a double fisherman's. Highly recommend. I would never lead a climb without a rope like this to string up in emergency scenarios.

5 Victor climber
[ Awesome purchase! I purchased this item for making a quad anchor in multipitch and it did n't disappoint. Length is good enough, strength is strong, thickness is great, and the most important part its super light. I am very happy for this purchase

Psyched I bought this cord. Strong and light. Should be ideal for belay stations and rap anchors in a bail situation.

This rope handles really well immediately. Minimal pigtails and is nice and light to carry in. I bought this rope to replace a 9. 8 and the difference is noticeable. Can not comment on the durability yet, but I have used other Mammut ropes in the past and have never had an issue. Very happy with this purchase and would make it again.

I got this rope in the 100m length and cut it to use 40 m indoors and 60 outdoors. Super lightweight and feeds through any belay device with minimal resistance but still strong enough to catch heavy whippers. My favorite rope that I have used so far. I would recommend this to someone with more experience climbing as it could be somewhat off putting to climb with such a thin rope if you are new to climbing a d dont have any gear confidence.

5 Zachary R
This rope is awesome! It has become the welcome third that my partner and I were looking for. After looking at other ropes for a while, I breached the subject with her. I said, `` Hey, how would you feel if I introduced a new rope into our love life? You know, for climbing! '' She gave me that smiling look of approval and we have been climbing to new heights ever since! After three weeks of desert climbing, it still looks clean( ish) and has supple handling. This is my fourth Mammut rope and I am always pleased with the durability, feel and Charmin- soft catches. Thank you Mammut, for everything!

[ This rope is excellent for alpine pursuits with long approaches. Lightweight yet reliable for ice and rock, it has a silky touch for smooth belays and fast rappels. Useful middle mark and water treatment make this rope perfect for all- season in the Rockies, the Cascades, or the Andes.

5 Bill
[ This rope has a dry cover treatment so it's slick enough to keep the grit of Smith Rock out of it, and just small enough to belay from above with a Reverso comfortably. I 'm pretty happy with the handling and feel of the rope so far and the weight per meter is without question amazing. My only question is in regards to durability when rapping over sharp edges, but with the Unicore peace of mind that concern is much less so than other ropes I 've used.

[ I love this rope. Bought it about a month ago. Took it to HCR in Jasper Arkansas. I love that it ’s 70 m but totally not bulky Bc it ’s 9. 4 mm. I ’ m used to climbing w thicker ropes, so at first the belaying a heavier person situation was a little weird to get used to. But as long as you belay with good technique, it is fine. I treat this rope like it ’s my freaking child. Ok that ’s all:)

[ I just used this rope and it's light, moves through the belay device really well and nice to rapell on! It coils well and I love the color!!!!

[ I bought this rope for an Indian Creek trip, which we had to cancel because of COVID- 19. Instead we used it for casual multipitches at the Gunks. It is somewhat heavier than my other ropes, but it's not bad for a 9. 4mm 70m. It feels nice when belaying. Very nice color, but middle mark can be difficult to find. It was very stiff out of the box( despite numerous flakes). Mammut's 3D lap coiling is definitely superior. A 9. 4mm 70m rope is a great purchase from any manufacturer, but Beal seems to have done a nice job with this one overall.

[ Purchased this a few weeks ago ahead of a trip to Zion. Have taken it out three times and have about 15 rappels on it- mostly double rope, but not all. I have used ATC, ATS, and Hyrobot rappel devices without issue. Have used hollow block and 5mm nylon auto blocks as well. Really like its light weight. I take care to not beat up on my ropes so I ca n't easily confirm how much more durable it is compared to something like Sterling's HTP rope, but it seems to be holding up fine after three outings. I have no buyer's remorse on spending a few extra dollars.

Frequently Asked Questions For Lightweight Climbing Rope

Lightweight climbing ropes are designed to reduce the overall weight carried during ascents, making them ideal for long climbs and multi-pitch routes. Their reduced weight can enhance mobility and ease of handling, allowing climbers to focus on technique and safety. Additionally, they often feature advanced materials that provide strength and durability without the bulk.

The diameter of a lightweight climbing rope can significantly affect its performance and suitability for different climbing styles. Thinner ropes are generally lighter and easier to handle, but they may have reduced durability and impact force absorption. Consider your climbing type, experience level, and the specific conditions you'll encounter when selecting the diameter that best meets your needs.

Dynamic climbing ropes are designed to stretch under load, which helps absorb the energy of a fall, making them ideal for sport climbing and traditional climbing. In contrast, static ropes have minimal stretch and are better suited for applications like rappelling or hauling gear. Understanding these differences is crucial for selecting the right type of rope for your climbing activities.

While lightweight climbing ropes are excellent for many climbing scenarios, their suitability can vary based on the type of climbing you plan to do. They are often preferred for sport and alpine climbing due to their reduced weight, but may not be the best choice for heavy-duty applications like rescue or industrial use. Always assess the specific requirements of your climbing style before making a decision.

The material used in lightweight climbing ropes plays a critical role in their performance, durability, and handling characteristics. Ropes made from high-strength synthetic fibers tend to offer excellent abrasion resistance and longevity while maintaining a lightweight profile. Additionally, some materials may provide enhanced water resistance, which can be beneficial in wet conditions.

Proper care and maintenance of lightweight climbing ropes are essential for ensuring their longevity and performance. Factors to consider include regular inspection for signs of wear or damage, proper storage away from direct sunlight and moisture, and cleaning methods that do not compromise the rope's integrity. Following manufacturer guidelines can help maintain the rope's strength and safety over time.
