I have been wearing this in the Bay Area in the 40s. Great jacket. Breaths well. Very light. Wind resistant, does fine in drizzle. No experience in really cold or real rain. There are no clinch cords at the bottom, though, and so I need a light vest to fill out the jacket. As for really cold, I was able to put a another layer of ghost whisperer under and, I assume, I am good to go for really cold, too. I should mention that I am a senior and am bundled up when the kids are running by in shorts! Again, this is a really light jacket and feels wonderful to wear. Packs well, too.

Keeps me warm in the 30s easily with just a normal shirt and a sweater. With real layers I have been able to walk approx 30 minutes round trip in the low 20s and strong winds. It ’s very warm and also gives you that psychological warmth boost of a fat, cozy puffer. The length is just right if you need a big outermost layer but don ’ t want a full parka length. I am normally between S and M for most things and a S easily fits me even with a chunky sweater. The two internal mesh pockets are clutch.

LOVE this jacket! I 'm 6' 2 and bought XL for extra movement and layering when snowboarding. Pros: The synthetic fill is the best I 've ever felt, I honestly thought it was down fill. I love that it stays warm and holds its lofty puffiness when in wet snow conditions. My other Sitka down jacket loses its loft quickly in the arms and back when I start perspiring from a morning of hiking or snowboarding. But's it's so soft a cozy. I often just wear a t- shirt or thin base layer under it if I 'm just staring around a camp fire. It's very warm and the hand and chin backings are super soft. Cons: My only complaint is that it does n't have a well placed hood draw string for windy conditions. The single draw string on the hood is more a retention string for side to side movement of your head. And the outer fabric is very delicate, I know its gon na snag and tear on a tree branch one of these days.... I personally wish it was a little bit thicker like on my wife's Expedition down jacket.

[ I bought this as a gift for my husband for an upcoming trip. He is 6' and around 190 lbs, and I got him the XL. The sleeves are a bit long but they do have velcro to adjust and tighten them around the wrist. It's roomy but great for layering, though I think if he were ever to pull out the inner layer of the thin down shell, the outer jacket would be huge on him. The length is great for his longer torso, it covers his butt well. He had requested no hood and this one is detachable( not easy to find a decent ski jacket without a hood!) so another win!

I ’ ve owned 2 other puffers( Patagonia and Rab). The Helium combined my favorite aspects of both jackets into one and improved on some other aspects. Only thing I can ’ t attest to is the jackets durability. I ’ ve had my Patagonia puffer for nearly 10 years, hoping this one lasts that or more! Pros:- lightweight but very warm( tested in the 20 ’s and 30F so far, expecting to see how it fairs in the negatives soon)- hand pockets are lined and warm- hood is a must have for long bouts in cold weather IMO- phone pocket on the chest fits a new pro max IPhone with a case on it- large internal open pockets, probably won ’ t use much but nice additional feature- the hood and shoulders have a water repellant material Con: My only negative is the sizing, I ’ m 6 ’ 200lbs and usually wear an XL for jackets. A large would have fit more athletically with room for another layer underneath. I am 5 ’ 11 ”, 180 lbs with long arms and an athletic build, and Mountain Hardware is one of the only brands with sleeves that are long enough for me to wear a medium. This jacket is a little tight in the chest, but should be fine with the stretchy material. It is warm and seemingly well made. I like the slim fit because it ’s not bulky and doesn ’ t get caught up and snagged on branches etc. the way baggy jackets can and I can wear it underneath a shell.

I really like this jacket. I had read some views and will comment first on some of the things others did not like- giving my perspective. Then will add some things I myself found I like. This jacket is fitted, especially around the chest. I got a medium and I am 5' 7 '' 160lbs, waist is 32. I actually like this because when I wear it under a shell it is not bulky. The waist is also fitted. I would say you need a trim body type for this work well, or you have to be willing to go a larger size than usual. The hood does not have a way to adjust opening while wearing this jacket alone- other than the quick let's get some cover for some rain or wind. But, under a shell is great. The shape makes it stays in place, and the if the shell is adjustable then you are set. I would not suggest wearing this only for a downpour- must use a shell, but it does take on some moisture without a problem. In terns of temperature my experience is that without activity( e. g. standing outside) this can take the 30s well( unless is very very windy). With some activity it will keep you warm enough in the 20s. The zippers work well and find myself using the top pocket to keep my phone handy and dry. I find myself wearing this very often and is `` dressy '' enough to wear casually around town.

I just got this jacket, but by first impressions of use... WOW! This thing is exactly what I wanted. I have a shell for warmer days but had to bundle too many layers to stay warm on those cold days. I run very hot while skiing, I get to the bottom and need to strip or open all my layers to not overheat. This jacket gives you breathability while carrying the insulation that keeps you warm on the chair up. Literally the only thing that could be improved is the size of the armpit ventilation. Like I mentioned above I run hot so I would have enjoyed more airflow when I open the vents. But that tiny detail is the only thing I can find at fault and it's more of a personal preference. This shell has proven a perfect addition to time in the elements where protection is critical and weight is a factor. I have used this on a several volcano ski missions this past summer and spring. It packs light and provides the summit protection needed when wind is ripping and body temps are dropping. Marmot allotted a good amount of pockets without going overboard and the pit zips provide ventilation that allows you to tune your protection on the move without having to stop to layer up or down. When it comes to rain protection, it's hard to beat Gore. It also vents well for active pursuits.

[ I bought this in Nov 2020 because I was looking for a lightweight winter jacket that I can wear as my primary jacket. I was worried it would n't be warm enough because it's not down but I can say that for non- active use, you could probably be comfortable in it down to 32 F or so. If you 're outdoors for extended periods of time( e. g. Standing outside for the bus/train, long walks), you might want something a little warmer. But for typical Philly/NYC winters, I think this is great. I also have a Fjallraven parka for when it's colder. If you 're being somewhat active, you could wear this comfortably in even colder temps. It does a good job of insulating the heat you generate from biking, jogging, brisk walking, etc. The fit is perfect for me! I have a long torso for someone my height( 5' 8 '') but it's nice and long, so I 'd guess that if you 're tall and skinny, this jacket would be great. For short torso people, it might feel long. The jacket looks great and feels like a great quality product. I hope to wear it for many years!

[ I really enjoyed the stretch- fit feature, I could actually be active and use my arms without the jacket riding up. Then matte- like finish is fantastic and a lot more subtle than the Ghost Whisperer finish, with a soft yet durable feel. Plenty of pockets for everything you 'd need to stash away and the chest pocket fits a rather large cellphone, I use the Galaxy S8+ with an OtterBox case so this should fit pretty much any phone on the market. I have yet to be in freezing temps but at low 40s with wind the StretchDown jacket kept me very arm, the seam welded baffles do their job. I would absolutely recommend this jacket after reviewing the Ghost Whisperer as well as options from Patagonia and Arc'teryx I decided to buy the Mountain Hardwear StretchDown Jacket and I do not regret my decision.

[ This is my favorite jacket. I probably wear it more often than I should, to be entirely honest. It's just so darn versatile, though, that I find myself grabbing this jacket in nearly any situation. The fit is perfect and the angled baffles look great on anyone. The baffles themselves are much more firm than most puffy jackets, which just feels fantastic every time you throw it on. The material is durable, and the range of motion is completely non- restricting. Interestingly, I was especially impressed by the way this jacket feels when moving between being outside/inside. I 've ridden my bicycle outside and felt toasty warm while wearing this well below 30 degrees+ windchill, but then when I go inside at 70 degrees it still feels comfortable enough that I do n't need to take it off. I think everyone should have a Stretchdown. Mine has completely changed the way I think about down jackets.

This jacket served me well for 10 years of steady use every winter/fall and I finally replaced it. The quality is superb, the new Pertex Shield on the shoulders/arms gives it a much more durable feel. It has a premium feel in the hand and is a nice blend of weight/durability. I like the cut of OR jackets. I am 6 ’ 1 ” 235. The Helium Down does not disappoint regarding warmth. It has that soft down feeling with added structural integrity where one might carry a pack. The gusseting in the arm allow for a full range of motion without much rise. I have long arms and can still draw out without the jacket tightening too much in the back. If for some reason I found myself in dire need of more warmth I could wear it underneath a jacket or shell because it could compress enough to almost be a base layer and not sacrifice its loft. At which point I am certain to roast.

Love that this uses a fairly high fill power down( 800+), making it warm and space/weight efficient. I have higher fill power items like MH ghost whisperer UL( 1000 FP), but most UL garments use fragile fabrics and do n't have any weather protection, so they 're really limited to cold, dry weather. The Helium Down Jacket has weather resistance in key areas due to the Pertex Diamond Fuse panels, which makes it more versatile. It wo n't be a great outer layer if you 're expecting heavy rain, but I wear it by itself in a light mist or under a shell if heavy rain is expected. The Pertex panels are a little crinkly, but not as loud as some reviews suggest. I found the sizing to be accurate. This is quickly becoming a staple of my wardrobe from fall through spring. I like this jacket, I usually wear Large and ordered a Large and it fit as expected. I prefer synthetic insulation over real down because feathers do n't end up everywhere and they tend to be warm enough. I have n't actually tested it in cold weather yet since it's summer here but I 'm confident it will be a warm jacket in cooler weather.

I use this as an everyday jacket for plain clothes LE work in PA. It is insanely warm for how light weight it is. Water repellency and wind resistance is excellent. Excellent balance between weight and warmth. Only downfall is the length makes it difficult to get to a sidearm when zipped up.

Impressive 3- 1 after wearing out my North Face 3- 1 system I have wore for years. Bought this to replace it and I am happy with what my research settled upon. Love the zip out silk liner as a stand alone lite duty jacket, a nd the shell works excellent as a rain cover. This is a great system for a beginner or an expert in the field or out on the town. Size runs true and is a little longer than expected but I did not mind the extra length to cover my hind end.

I 've had my RG foray for a little over 3 years and it's been pretty good to me. I 've mostly worn the puffer by itself in cool weather. There's little wind resistance to it, so be warned. Otherwise it's a good standalone layer on even the coldest days for short exposure times. I 've had to wear the jacket on several rainy days, and the full system during an Easter trip to the UK in '23. Scotland, Wales, and northern England are n't known for great weather in March and this trip was no exception. We endured near constant wind and periodic rain& sleet. When we went to London it rained for several hours one day and we were in it at its hardest. The fabric shed water well without getting soaked, as I 'd expect from OR. All in all, it's a good buy.

[ Bought mid Oct. I live in Alaska wanted something good for hiking, xcountry sking, walking dogs I was not disappointed. Im 5' 2 '' 125lb I got a size S, fits great with room to layer. Ive been on one hike, temp was 30- 35F I layered with a columbia fleece kept me nice& warm. Also great for walking dogs around the block. I love all the deep pockets, fits my cell& keys perfectly. I havent tested in temps below zero yet or rainy conditions but I 'm sure if you added a shell over it would be fine

I like this jacket because I don ’ t like jackets! It ’s very warm because of the Omni heat and 650 down fill. It ’s not bulky( Omni heat keeps the bulk down). The quilting keeps the down fill from shifting. I have good range of motion without feeling like I ’ m confined. And it ’s cute!

[ After having this puffy for a month, I 'm pretty happy with it. My job keeps me outside in all kinds of weather, so I have worn this puffy almost everyday so far this winter. I 've found that its best suited for 25- 45 degree weather. Anything above, and I get too hot! Anything below that range, and it is just cold enough that I would put on a thicker base layer underneath or wear a tougher shell over the puffy. Its great at cutting wind chill too. And with the fun heat seal part, I 'm excited to see how long this thing lasts with the activities I put through all my clothes!

[ Stylish and functional. Not overly puffy for a down jacket. This is more of a fitted style. Zero stitch baffling is a unique idea but have not worn it long enough to see if it maintains warmth due to the flatness of the material in between. Love the soft reflective lining.
