Love the zip out silk liner as a stand alone lite duty jacket, a nd the shell works excellent as a rain cover. This is a great system for a beginner or an expert in the field or out on the town. Size runs true and is a little longer than expected but I did not mind the extra length to cover my hind end.

I 've had my RG foray for a little over 3 years and it's been pretty good to me. I 've mostly worn the puffer by itself in cool weather. There's little wind resistance to it, so be warned. Otherwise it's a good standalone layer on even the coldest days for short exposure times. I 've had to wear the jacket on several rainy days, and the full system during an Easter trip to the UK in' 23. Scotland, Wales, and northern England are n't known for great weather in March and this trip was no exception. We endured near constant wind and periodic rain& sleet. When we went to London it rained for several hours one day and we were in it at its hardest. The fabric shed water well without getting soaked, as I 'd expect from OR. All in all, it's a good buy.

I just got this jacket, but by first impressions of use... WOW! This thing is exactly what I wanted. I have a shell for warmer days but had to bundle too many layers to stay warm on those cold days. I run very hot while skiing, I get to the bottom and need to strip or open all my layers to not overheat. This jacket gives you breathability while carrying the insulation that keeps you warm on the chair up. Literally the only thing that could be improved is the size of the armpit ventilation. Like I mentioned above I run hot so I would have enjoyed more airflow when I open the vents. But that tiny detail is the only thing I can find at fault and it's more of a personal preference. I 've found that its best suited for 25- 45 degree weather. Anything above, and I get too hot! Anything below that range, and it is just cold enough that I would put on a thicker base layer underneath or wear a tougher shell over the puffy. Its great at cutting wind chill too. These bibs were fantastic for my snowboarding trip in Breckenridge. These bibs were extra flexible and did n't make me feel as constrained as other bibs have. They fit well and were very comfortable for riding from first chair to last. We ended up having a pretty wide range of temperatures from 40 to- 10. The vents did a great job of keeping me cool on the warmer days, and I only had to add a single layer of thermal underwear( top and bottom) to be comfortable on the- 10 days!

Keeps me warm in the 30s easily with just a normal shirt and a sweater. With real layers I have been able to walk approx 30 minutes round trip in the low 20s and strong winds. It ’s very warm and also gives you that psychological warmth boost of a fat, cozy puffer. The length is just right if you need a big outermost layer but don ’ t want a full parka length. I am normally between S and M for most things and a S easily fits me even with a chunky sweater. The two internal mesh pockets are clutch.

LOVE this jacket! I 'm 6'2 and bought XL for extra movement and layering when snowboarding. Pros: The synthetic fill is the best I 've ever felt, I honestly thought it was down fill. I love that it stays warm and holds its lofty puffiness when in wet snow conditions. My other Sitka down jacket loses its loft quickly in the arms and back when I start perspiring from a morning of hiking or snowboarding. But's it's so soft a cozy. I often just wear a t- shirt or thin base layer under it if I 'm just staring around a camp fire. It's very warm and the hand and chin backings are super soft. Cons: My only complaint is that it does n't have a well placed hood draw string for windy conditions. The single draw string on the hood is more a retention string for side to side movement of your head. And the outer fabric is very delicate, I know its gon na snag and tear on a tree branch one of these days.... I personally wish it was a little bit thicker like on my wife's Expedition down jacket.

This jacket served me well for 10 years of steady use every winter/fall and I finally replaced it. The quality is superb, the new Pertex Shield on the shoulders/arms gives it a much more durable feel. It has a premium feel in the hand and is a nice blend of weight/durability. Fits great with layers underneath, but also works well as a mid- layer under a shell. I 'm a fan of the new color options too. In summary, this is a durable, lightweight, packable and versatile jacket that does its job in the back- country but transitions seamlessly to the front- country. Highly recommended.

I like the cut of OR jackets. I am 6 ’ 1 ” 235. The Helium Down does not disappoint regarding warmth. It has that soft down feeling with added structural integrity where one might carry a pack. The gusseting in the arm allow for a full range of motion without much rise. I have long arms and can still draw out without the jacket tightening too much in the back. If for some reason I found myself in dire need of more warmth I could wear it underneath a jacket or shell because it could compress enough to almost be a base layer and not sacrifice its loft. At which point I am certain to roast.

Love that this uses a fairly high fill power down( 800+), making it warm and space/weight efficient. I have higher fill power items like MH ghost whisperer UL( 1000 FP), but most UL garments use fragile fabrics and do n't have any weather protection, so they 're really limited to cold, dry weather. The Helium Down Jacket has weather resistance in key areas due to the Pertex Diamond Fuse panels, which makes it more versatile. It wo n't be a great outer layer if you 're expecting heavy rain, but I wear it by itself in a light mist or under a shell if heavy rain is expected. The Pertex panels are a little crinkly, but not as loud as some reviews suggest. I found the sizing to be accurate. This is quickly becoming a staple of my wardrobe from fall through spring. [ I bought this as a gift for my husband for an upcoming trip. He is 6' and around 190 lbs, and I got him the XL. The sleeves are a bit long but they do have velcro to adjust and tighten them around the wrist. It's roomy but great for layering, though I think if he were ever to pull out the inner layer of the thin down shell, the outer jacket would be huge on him. The length is great for his longer torso, it covers his butt well. He had requested no hood and this one is detachable( not easy to find a decent ski jacket without a hood!) so another win!

I ’ ve owned 2 other puffers( Patagonia and Rab). The Helium combined my favorite aspects of both jackets into one and improved on some other aspects. Only thing I can ’ t attest to is the jackets durability. I ’ ve had my Patagonia puffer for nearly 10 years, hoping this one lasts that or more! Pros:- lightweight but very warm( tested in the 20 ’s and 30F so far, expecting to see how it fairs in the negatives soon)- hand pockets are lined and warm- hood is a must have for long bouts in cold weather IMO- phone pocket on the chest fits a new pro max IPhone with a case on it- large internal open pockets, probably won ’ t use much but nice additional feature- the hood and shoulders have a water repellant material Con: My only negative is the sizing, I ’ m 6 ’ 200lbs and usually wear an XL for jackets. A large would have fit more athletically with room for another layer underneath. very happy with this downie. granted, I would n't try my luck in a Minnesota winter with this and a tee shirt, but for simple, functional northwest cold, this jacket is perfect. the fit is great, roominess enough but not too much, and the sizing is dead on( I 'm 5' 10 '' and 180, bought a large). good coat for the casual wearer and will last well on hikes, but the more serious outdoorsman may prefer a bit more durability.

I 've only had this jacket for a couple of days, but I am already very impressed. It's very warm, the zips are all high quality, the pockets are sooo soft and nice to put my hands in. I love how the neck comes right up to my chin so even if I do n't have the hood on, I can zip the neck right up and I feel like I am wearing a scarf. Very happy with the styling too. Great coat, layered with a vest it is comfortable in 30 to 40F degree temperature. I 'm 5'3 '' at 140 lbs and I got the large- it's a little loose with tights and tshirt, but perfect for layering with a vest and jeans. I 'm normally a medium and even have a small Columbia ski jacket. I love the weight, the hand warmers, the length and the double zipper for sitting. The medium fit a little too tight when wearing warm clothes. I 've had down coats in the past and they are good for under freezing weather. The jacket is warm by itself but the added heat makes it my daily jacket now as I go skiing on subzero temperatures. It's warm enough on# 2 setting and so far the batteries have lasted for the 4 hours I was outside with still some life in them. On# 3 you will get heat for just over 2 hours. I wish there was a bit of heat in the arms but the back and front are the most important parts of your body you want to keep warm. Overall I am very satisfied.

I have the 12v system for all day riding on my Goldwing. I use this for days when I am off and on the bike a lot because I do n't have to worry about extra wires. Also great for motorcycles that do n't have a large enough electrical system plus other non- riding adventures. Typically using the lower power modes I all day warmth. I have an extra battery that I also carry and rarely need to use it. Wear it as a thermal layer under a coat for max protection and warmth. At times I will even wear it around the house instead of turning up the thermostat. I have the fleece vest version too.
