Solid first baitcaster. I was a little nervous trying one for the first time, but after I dialed in the tension and brakes, I have to issues with backlash whatsoever. Rod feels super stiff and has a great lure weight range. Only thing I dont like is the slow gear ratio. I imagine the reviews mentioning backlash just didnt know how to dial in the settings.

For my first bait caster, it's great. If your scared about backlashing, do n't be. If you tune this rod right, it will never backlash. It's also a really nice rod and reel, well- made and definitely good quality. So is it worth your money's worth? Heck yeah! Great rod if you 're just getting into bait casters.

Got the 33 Black for basic fishing, Crappie, Bass, Blue gill catfish etc. The casting is nice and smooth as is the retrieval, it has 4 bearings and you can feel and hear the difference between this and the standard 33. Definitely beginner friendly as long as you understand the basics of dialing in. I threw a bunch of different lures and hardly had to adjust. Just a great experience overall. The price is a steal!

Bought four of these reels. I am very happy with the performance and quality of this reel for the money. Hold line well casts well. The only complaint is it sometimes sucks the slack into the spool well which is a pain but I cast a lot! The drag is very good and I have adjusted on the fly with no problems saved me some fish!

I bought this reel( 2500 size) and paired it with a Lew's Custom Pro Speed Stick( got in on sale for$ 90) and am using with 8 lb test fluoro. I use this set up for lightweight and finesse type fishing such as skipping senkos under docks, drop shot fishing or throwing weightless texas rigs around. Will say this reel feels really smooth and can cast a great distance without much weight. Skipping under docks is way easier with this reel also because of how smooth it is. It is definitely an upgrade from the Lew's Mach Crush spinning combo and the Lew's Mach 2 spinning combo I have. My dad is trying to get back into fishing and plan to buy him this as his first reel as well. Definitely recommend.

I wouldnt say this is a `` lady '' combo as its really geared towards children. So, that could be misleading. The button to cast needs to be depressed quite deliberately and firm, something my 6 yr old had some trouble with. She loved the color and that it was a larger rod than her previous rod. The other day I hooked into a massive red in a pond and it ran straight for open water, taking out about 120 yds of line. I purchased the 30 for my daughter about a month ago to go with her Stratus rod. She wanted pink braid but we could only find 15lb line so we spooled it up and threw a topwater on it and tested it out. To both of our amazement, she casted a good 35 yards on her first cast which is about double of what she was capable of with her old reel using the same rod and line brand. We switched rods keeping the same line and again, 30- 35 yards easy. I know there are a few factors when casting, but the only change made was the reel. This led me to believe that this reel made a huge difference for her. This is probably one of the best purchases for fishing equipment by far.
