We had seen others use a dutch oven when camping with the boy scouts but had never used one ourselves. We spotted this while shopping at Dick's and thought we would like to give it a try. It had the features we knew were important to look for... the legs on the bottom and the flat indented lid, and we liked the 6 qt size. It came with a small recipe book but it was packed with yummy sounding soups, stews, main dishes and yes, deserts. We did pork chops with potatoes in it and WOW was that good. And we were amazed at how fast and thorough it cooked our dinner! We enjoy having bonfires at home too so I 'm certain we will do some dutch oven cooking right in our own back yard!!

This is a great skillet set for home or camp use. You can use the pans individually or combine them for dutch oven cooking. Also can be used on the stove top, or in the oven. I have made fried chicken, deep dish pizzas, cornbread, apple pie, frittatas, stir fry and breads in this set so far. I have used these almost daily, and have since purchased a few other sized lodge skillets. You have to cook with a lower heat than your traditional non- stick pan and have to use a bit more oil, but the more you use it the more it becomes seasoned and acts more like a non- stick pan. Patience is key with these. The handles do get hot, so pick up a set of handle mitts that lodge makes.

It was surprising to me that a sporting goods store would be the only one to have it in stock( even over the manufacturer!) AND have it at the best price, but that's exactly what happened. The pot is a 5 gallon cast iron with feet and it's pre- seasoned which is awesome. It also has an aluminum lid to cover the pot. The frame of the pot you bought together so it's provides extra sturdiness for the cooker. It's heated by using a propane tank. This is awesome for tailgating or for camping because even though it's called the jambalaya pot you can virtually cook tons of stuff in this like chili or soups or do a fish fry. The only thing it says you can not use it for is to fry a whole turkey which is understandable because it's only 5 gallon. If you love camping or tailgating or just like to have a pot instead of a grill this is awesome to have. For my large family we do a lot of Chili's and gumbos and soups so this is going to really be great on our next camping trip in a couple of weeks
