Had the normal one full day break- in period. This is my third pair and I keep coming back for them. They are rugged and durable and last a little over a year when used roughly for hiking, trail running and slogging through the mud. I compete with these a lot because they keep the water out( unless I go in the streams) and they hold up really well. The soles start to get thinner after 1. 5 years but I have n't found any others that hold up any better and still stay together like these Moab 3's.

I was part of a Montana hiking group and Merrill was always their first choice, so I was delighted to get them for him. My only objection is that we had very poor customer service. After a horrible experience with the migrating foam in the footbed of a previous leather- upper Merrell, this was a gamble... but so far it's been great. Incredible cushioning, great fit. A few unexplainable hard spots on the uppers noticeable only on steep side- hills. Now on to the desert sand.

Vibram tech on the sole keeps you going strong on the most rugged terrain. The leather material keeps your feet dry and adds durability to the shoe, but it does not provide breathability like other materials. I highly recommend these shoes for specific use, but if you plan to use them for extending hiking, I would choose a fabric material so you feet can breathe and not get overheated.

I really love my boots. It ’s now my 4th pair. I like how Dr. Martens can be dressed up or dressed down. I wear them to work giving a professional look, but then I can still rock them at happy hour with a dressed down look. If you never had a pair they are heavy. They weigh at least 4- 5 pounds.

I gave these as a Christmas gift to my dad. He was so thrilled with them. He loved the firmness of the sole as he is using them on his mountain bike. He has a similar version without the extra black textile on the side but they really stretched out. The black textile seems to help hold the shape of the shoe better than just suede. Width is perfect not too wide.

Most of my hiking in on packed soil with lots of exposed roots. I typically wear a normal width but a wide was required for this one.
