I bought my second pair of these approximately a month ago. My last pair I used to backpack the Himalayas twice, Colorado, North Carolina and North Georgia. I also used them as my go to hunting boot as well. They 're heavy duty and it taken care of will last for years and years. I brought the leather back to life on mine using mink oil several times. They look good with a pair of jeans as well and make a great statement when worn in. I hated to let my other pair go and buy another pair but they served me well for over a decade. I love these boots and they are perfect when broken in.

Only now are the insides starting to fail at the heels. The outsole has worn evenly and still has lots of life left. I have a wide foot and often boots and shoes are snug so I have to size up. I typically wear a 9. 5 or 10. With this boot a 9. 5 fit great. The boot is light weight and very comfortable. Shockingly so. I have read comments that these are not the `` hard core '' hiking boot type- and thats probably true. But if you want comfort with some warmth and protection from the elements I would recommend giving these Danners a try. The quality is certainly built in. I do get compliments on the boots when I wear them.

Columbia is by far my favorite brand of hiking boots/shoes because they always just fit me really well, and this boot is no exception. The Newton Wander is a good looking and comfortable hiking boot. I do n't feel like it needed any break in period, and I wore mine as my daily drivers until the arches were shot. I always left them tied, but could get them on and off quickly by looping the laces on and off of the top couple sets of hooks. Even after they were worn out and the soles were worn down, I kept them around and wore them a couple more times to do some landscaping work and rebuild a retaining wall in my back yard. It has a different type of hook so it is a little difficult to get the lace in it when it is pulled out. I still rate this as Excellent though.

Out of all my high top Altra shoes this is the most lightweight of them all. I have to send the left shoe off to have a lift built onto the bottom, which usually makes it very heavy. It added weight to it, but it is still really lightweight in comparison. Always very warm and durable, just wish you would make this exact shoe with a taller top for better ankle support. For having been rocking a competitor brand that's very cushioned, I 've been experimenting and wanted to give these a try. I 'm not hip on the zero drop or whatever chatter. I 'm very basic and oblivious to the jargon. I let me feet tell me if they like a shoe or not. Not too heavy, and the waterproofing has worked well so far in my three months of ownership. I just happened across these in a Bozeman MT shop as I was about to throw in the towel on finding a decent pair of hikers. I 'd never heard of Danner before this, but after slipping these babies on I knew it was going to be the start of a beautiful relationship. These took ZERO breaking- in as they were comfy from day one for me. I 've gone on short hikes and just this past summer( I 've owned them for 2 years now), they were my flyfishing wet- wading boots. They worked like a charm on the riverbed and dried out pretty quickly and without any shape change. This boot the sizing has changed slightly they are smaller in the toe box. I went with a half size larger but I probably could have stayed with my regular size 10 and just broke them in. They are to me a light version on the quest boots that are much heavier and clunck than these. A couple of weeks ago, Muck Boot sent me a pair of boots to try out. I ’ ve worn them for everything from ag field days to foraging herbs in the woods, to the steam threshers event, to going to the grocery store. They are by far the most comfortable boots I ’ ve ever worn. My favorite thing is that the sole is soft and “ bouncy ”. I ’ m a very active person who has chronic pain. Good shoes are very important to help keep the pain as minimal as possible. These do the trick. Mine are worn volunteering at the Detroit Zoo. I get between 4- 6 miles a shift. First day was rough, added an orthotic( wear orthotics with all my shoes) and no more issues! My feet feel good, my ankles are supported. Yay!

I 've been trying to find good' intermediate' boots for snowshoeing for over a year. I bought several pairs and returned them all. These are exactly what I was looking for. They are waterproof, warm, and have stiff enough uppers for cinching down snowshoe bindings. They also have great tread and decent edging ability on hard, steep snow when not using snowshoes. They 're much lighter and less expensive than technical mountaineering boots, which were the only other good option I could find.

After a few short walks around the neighborhood these shoes were ready to go. Next was some gravel trails in upstate Washington and finally some dirt trails. They are very comfortable with plenty of room in the toe box which is often an issue for me. I sized up 1 size from dress shoes worn with no socks to accommodate cushioned hiking socks. Excellent light hiker as I hike about 5 miles or less per day. Shoelaces tend to slip and untie so I double knot them.
