I bought four of the 10 lbs. weight plates to go along with the 40 lbs. adjustable dumbbell set, which I purchased at the same time-- so now I have two dumbbells that adjust from 4 to 40 lbs. each. I can do a lot of exercises with that. And I can purchase more weight plates to go heavier. If you purchase additional weight plates for an adjustable dumbbell set, I recommend you do n't get plates heavier than 10 lbs. as a larger plate can make doing typical dumbbell exercises a bit awkward.
